I know, I know, Halloween stuff already. But I thought of this idea back in June and I’ve been so excited to try it. With October only two weeks away (aaaaah!), I thought I’d share how I made these for anyone who’s ready to get a jump on things.
Paper mache letters (mine were two-feet tall but any size works)
Cheesecloth
White paint and a paintbrush
Glue
I started by painting my letters white. I only used one coat of paint, just enough to stain the letters white.
Next, I wrapped the letters with cheesecloth. Since my letters were enormous, I used almost an entire package (36-inch by 6 yards) per letter.
I used Mod Podge to secure the ends of the cheesecloth (you can also tuck them).
I then painted over the front of the letters with Mod Podge. I wanted my cheesecloth to look a bit yellowed and aged. This is definitely an optional step, but know that Mod Podge will turn your cheesecloth yellow, so keep that in mind when you are gluing down your cheesecloth edges.
I had a bit of cheesecloth left over, so I ripped it in strips and tied them all over the letters.
I love how they turned out. I even added some plastic spiders to decorate them a bit.
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!

So cute! I loved your candlestick idea from last year and totally copied it. Might have to do this one too.
