As James gets older, it’s so nice that he can finally do a lot of the same things as Annabel, especially when we went to the fair two days ago. Other than one fast spinning ride, James was able to go on every ride with his sister, which seriously cut down on the amount of crying we typically experience at an amusement park (although, as the chocolate dipped cone proved, not all of it).

Pretty sure they’re both still on a sugar high.

I think that may have been the best day of Annie’s life.

I hope she has a BUNCH of “best days of her life”! Love that girl!

Heather, this comment has nothing to do with this particular post (though I love it and am happy to see your family having a lovely day together), but I just feel a need to write it and I don’t know where else to do so.
As I knew would be the case from a prenatal diagnosis, a dear friend lost her baby boy to stillbirth a few days ago. It is gut-wrenching – I never knew I could cry so much for a child I never even had the chance to meet.
But for one thing, I do want to say thank you. Because of reading your blog for so many years, I feel like I have some small sense of how to help in this unbearable situation. You’ve written so generously and freely of how to be there for someone who’s grieving the loss of a child (what to say, what not to say, what to offer) and while of course I wish NO ONE ever had to put such advice into practice, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving others some sort of roadmap in this awful thing. You didn’t have to do that amidst your own grief journey, but you have, and it matters. It really, really matters.
Thank you.
