My mom, Annabel, and I are currently in New York City. I have some meetings here on Monday, and since Annabel doesn’t have school that day I thought it would be fun to make it a girls’ weekend with her and my mom. It’s a quick trip – we got in just before midnight on Friday and we’ll get back on Monday night – but we’re packing in as much as possible. Annabel was so excited to fly on a plane and we gave her the window seat, ensuring this would be the greatest trip ever, even if we never left our hotel room.

~My brother is currently at the Toronto Film Festival, screening a bunch of cool movies that will be coming out soon. The one I’m excited to see is The Martian, about an astronaut who gets left behind on Mars and has to survive alone for years until NASA can rescue him. My brother said in his review that he was surprised by the film, in a good way! Movies like this one and Apollo 13 and Gravity remind me that I like being on the Earth very, very much. Nothing good ever happens in space!
