Happy Memorial Day weekend, Americans! This weekend, Annie’s softball team is playing in a softball tournament hosting by our league. It’s the 27th year of the tournament, which brings in 92 teams from all over Southern California. But 26 years ago, there were only about 10 teams…and I was on one of them. It’s fun to share this experience with her, all these years later!
Of course, even with a softball-filled weekend, we won’t forget to honor the brave men and women who fought for our country. We are so grateful for your service, especially the service of my father-in-law, an officer in the Navy.

Swifties
Last weekend, we took a quick break from softball to go to the Taylor Swift concert at the Rose Bowl. I’m not normally a fan of big outdoor stadium shows…you’re so far from the stage, and the sound is usually terrible. But I will grudgingly admit that Taylor and her crew did a very good job of making it feel like she was close to everyone. It was a surprisingly good show! Annie and her friends had a BLAST, and we moms enjoyed ourselves, too. Well done, Taylor.
Fun Finds
~With James finishing school this week and Annie the week after, I’ve been shopping for teacher gifts. A friend of mine came up with the great idea to give her kids’ teachers letter boards. If any of you are interested, either for teachers or yourself, these 10 x 10 boards are only $14 right now — down from $50!
~Who has a weighted blanket? I hear they’re great for insomnia, but they are not cheap. I found this one for $69 and it has good reviews, but I’m still hesitant. If you have one, please tell me if you like it or not!
~I bought Annie a few different Overtone color conditioners to use over the summer. This weekend we used the vibrant blue color on the ends of her hair (her softball team’s color is royal blue). I was skeptical about how it would look on her brown hair but it’s really cool! And it washes out after a few shampoos. I also got the Rose Gold and the Vibrant Purple, so we’ll have fun playing with different colors this summer (pro-tip – buy the sample sizes!).
Happy Sunday, everyone!

I’m so interested in weighted blankets! They are so pricy. The link is incorrect on the one you posted though!
And thank you for sharing about the conditioners…so fun!!
Heather says:
Ah, sorry about that!! I fixed it!!

I bit the bullet and purchased two … One for my insomnia ridden 25 year old and one for my anxiety ridden SO. I paid way more than that but went on a referral. I can let you know in about three weeks … They give you a 14 day trial period and I don’t have them yet.
LK says:
I love my weighted blanket! Mine is by Weighted Idea. (It is on Amazon). A bit pricey, but worth it. Make sure you get the right one based on your weight.
Callie says:
I got a weighted blanket for Christmas and now I can’t sleep without it. Try to get one with a cover so you are able to wash it. My only wish with mine is that it was a little bit heavier so make sure you get the correct weight for you. Mine is NYX on Amazon.
MA says:
My mom has weighted blankets and they have been amazing for her. She actually bought a smaller 10 pound travel size one because the regular one works so well.
Nan says:
My son has anxiety and trouble sleeping. I made him a weighted blanket and it has worked wonders for him. You are so crafty I bet you could make a blanket if you wanted.
Gail says:
I love my weighted blanket! I bought an inexpensive one first and ended up returning it. The weight shifted too much, the pockets were way to big to be effective. It’s worth it to spend a little more a get a quality blanket with smaller weighted pockets.
E says:
I would love to know if the weighted blanket is too hot to use in the summer!
Erika says:
So, how do I find the sample size of the conditioner? I can’t have fun colors for work but my hair is really blonde and I want to have some pastel purple in it during the week (I work weekends mostly). I looked through the site but cant find the sample size, unless I didn’t search well enough.
Heather says:
Ah, my bad! Here you go! https://overtone.co/pages/build-a-set
Suzy says:
I LOVE my weighted blanket – I agree that it’s best to have the one with smaller pockets so that the beads don’t move too much. My husband complains that it’s too heavy to get his hands under to cuddle but once he took a nap under it, he understood why I love it!
It is the most comforting sensation ever!
Violet says:
I have always loved sleeping under a lot of
Blankets for the heavy feeling. We got me a weighted blanket a few months ago and it’s my favorite things every. I LOVE it. We also use a smaller version for my two sensory seeking kiddos. One can take it or leave if, but my anxiety ridden 8 y/o lovvvvvves herd And has been asking for a heavier one since we accidentally ordered a smaller version
We got ours at sensacalm. We bought a “already washed” one which was discounted at 10% off and then they had a 10% off code I used. So that helped!
Kathy says:
I would love to see pictures of Annie’s colored hair!
Megan says:
I’m thinking about trying overtone on my naturally medium blonde hair. Did you use the deep treatment on Annie or just the daily conditioner? And did the blue completely come out? How long did that take?
