We’ve finally arrived at my favorite picture-taking time of year – Halloween!! YAY! All the little kids in their adorable costumes, the creepy haunted displays, and the creative pumpkins. My favorite thing is to take pictures of Jack o Lanterns, and it’s actually really easy.
If you have an SLR, you have a couple options. You can put your camera on the auto non-flash setting, or you can put it on shutter priority. I took these on shutter priority:
I set my shutter speed to 1/25 and my ISO to 800. The catch is that you need your camera on a steady surface. I used a tripod, but anything would do – porch bricks, tables, etc.
I know a lot of people out there don’t have an SLR, but don’t worry, you can still take pictures like this! I used my dad’s old point and shoot which has been in the family since I was in college, and I was able to get this picture:
It has no manual settings, so I simply put the camera in no-flash auto mode. You still need to put the camera on a steady surface to avoid camera shake (which would ruin the picture) but I think both of these pictures are great and show off the pumpkin’s face.
Now, what good are pictures if you can’t print them? That’s where my awesome friends at HP come in. They are giving away their HP Photosmart eStation e-All-in-One Printer to one of my lucky US readers (Sorry international pals, I really will have something for you soon!).
I have to tell you about this printer. First of all, I want it.
There are so many amazing things about it that this post would be miles long, but let me highlight a few.
First, see that control panel up there? It’s actually a detachable touchscreen tablet that you can use to surf the internet, play games, AND print your photos.
Second, it’s Energy Star Qualified, and can automatically do two sided printing to help save paper.
Third, it has ePrint. It’s demonstrated in Annie’s favorite commercial and You-Tube sensation here:
So, say you have a sibling, and the holidays are coming. You obviously want to give your parents the best gift to prove that you are way better than your brother. Imagine if you gave them this printer. You could send them PICTURES OF THEIR GRANDCHILDREN. LIKE MAGIC. Sorry Kyle, I am totally winning Christmas this year.
The best part to me, though? HP picture printing. I print all my pictures at home with my HP printer and they are gorgeous, vibrant, and frame-worthy.
So how do you win? By telling me either your favorite Halloween costume that you dressed up as, or what your children are going as this year. As you know, my daughter Annie is still struggling with what to be. Maybe your ideas will help her!
The nitty gritty – the winner must live in the United States. Only one entry per person. Contest closes Friday Oct. 29 at noon pacific time. Winner will be chosen by Random.org. Prize: One (1) HP Photosmart eStation e-All-in-One (ARV $399.00) to be shipped to winner. No substitution, cash redemption or transfer of prizes, except in Sponsor’s discretion.
OK Disclosure over. Time to enter!
Edited 10/29/10: the winner is…
Congrats!

Jon and Butterlump are going as Hans and Franz (2.0) and I am going to be Flo the Progressive Insurance lady.
Weirdo Halloween year, now that I think about it.
LauraLynne says:
I always dressed up as an accident victim – gauze, ketchup, charcoal blackened eyes..until I got in a car accident at age 13. After that I dressed up as a hippy – what’s the worst that could happen with that?!
Marsha says:
Let’s see….I am the wicked witch including green face and body paint this year.

My favorite halloween costume ever was when I dressed up as Selene from Underworld (I felt so rad!) I don’t have babies (yet) but my Rottweiler has not-so-happily dressed up as a pumpkin, a cowboy, and a gypsy.
Sharon H says:
My favorite was of Wonder Woman. But this was a LONG time ago, when kids didn’t show any skin. It was a plastic costume/jumpsuit you wore over your clothes and then a plastic mask with the elastic that always got caught in your hair!
To be honest, if I could, I would still dress as Wonder Woman today. But with a newer costume that didn’t make me sweat all night…
Sarah T says:
My 2 year old is going to be a pumpkin, not creative but super cute.
Beth says:
My favorite costume was a gypsy costume we made up of odds and ends around the house. My kids are still too young for Halloween, but maybe next year.
Lisa says:
Holy cow, that printer is awesome!!!!
My favorite Halloween costume of mine was this adorable clown costume my mom made me when I was 3. It was so flippin’ cute.
Maya is going to be Belle from Beauty and the Beast this year. She loves all things princess right now Belle is her favorite so she was very adamant that she HAD to be Belle for Halloween.
MobileAL08 says:
Kid-friendly=a crayon!! easiest costume in the world but undeniably cute. one sheet colored posterboard, 2 shoelaces (one to lace up the back, one to tie under chin for cone hat), hole puncher and marker. Cut arm holes, add turtleneck & tights, and you’re done!
Adult-friendly=a box of wine!! for the truly inspired, insert real box of wine with strategically placed “spout” and carry a supply of cups. You’ll be the life of the party!
Heather says:
My oldest will be a mummy, the middle will be a race car driver and sadly the youngest….still haven’t figured that one out yet. I really need to get on that.
Megan C. says:
My son is going as a monkey for his first time out. My favorite halloween costume? I dressed up as Red Sox player Curt Shilling in 2004 right after he had the bloody sock incident. My red lipstick I never wear came in handy as ‘blood’!

My son is dressing up as a scare crow. I’m being Dorothy and his grandma is the Tin Man.
chatty cricket says:
Oh, I will SO come out of the woodwork for this one. Here I come! Out of the woodwork!
So, my kids. I like to make them dress up together. My oldest is 5 so I can still get away with this. When it was just Cate and Marty, they went as Little Red Riding Hood and the Teeny Bad Wolf. When Jimmy came along they were a flock of seagulls (frequently mistaken for a flock of pigeons, but they were SEAGULLS). Last year the three of them were Peter Pan, Capt Hook and Tinkerbell, and this year with Pete they’ll be Dorthy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion.
I love Halloween, obvis.
Katie says:
I don’t have kids yet, but I love to take pictures of my teacup poodle. I have tons of pictures of her, but I never print them out…such a shame!
My favorite Halloween costume was one that my Grandmother made for me just like Belle’s gold dress in Beauty and the Beast. It looked just like it and I was so sad when I didn’t fit into it for dress-up anymore.
Tricia Simpson says:
I just love Halloween and this year is awesome because my 4 year old has decided to be a super hero who fights crime with her superior vocabulary!!! She is going to be Word Girl and her 1 year old brother is going to be her trusty sidekick, captain huggy face. PS- my kids and I watched Annabels halloween video about 4 times over the weekend. It was the most requested show all weekend. The whole family had the song stuck in our heads!!!
freda says:

The printer looks awesome!
Annie P. says:
My favorite costume would be my cowgirl costume maid “on the fly.” A close second would be my sisters costume this year. She is going as a box of nerds. Absolutely hilarious and adorable. Can’t wait to take pics!!!
Adara says:
My favorite holiday when I was a child was Christmas so for halloween, my mother dressed me up as a christmas tree. She took a sheet and spray painted it green. She then took a wire and made a hoop at the bottom of the sheet. She then proceeded to attach ornaments, soem from our own collection! i looked stunning! Downfall, I was a clumsy six year old and needless to say, not all the family ornaments made it home at the end of the night!
Kerri says:
My favorite halloween costume that I wore was a Jester’s outfit. It was adorable!! My mom made it by hand and she had little bells all over the place! My kids this year are going as; my 6 year old Elizabeth will be a witch. Well, not just any witch but a totally cute “Spiderina” witch all decked out in green, pink and black. My 2 1/2 year old is either going to be a pirate princess (again – from last year) or one of her sister’s older costumers, a fairy. I am so super excited this year for Halloween Have a great time Heather!!
Jessica says:
You are totally going to be the favoriet child with that gift this year! My son, Luke, is going as Wolverine. My daughter, Darian, will be a 50’s girl.
alex m says:
I felt stupid wearing the Crayon costume my mom made for me back in 3rd grade but looking back my brother and I looked pretty darn cute.
mommabird2345 says:
We are going old school by making all of our costumes this year. Trying to spend little or no money this year (yes, I’m cheap & broke).
My 12yo is going to be an 80’s chick. She will be wearing my winter formal dress from HS (it’s technically from the 90’s, but we are making it work).
My 6yo is going to be a Disney princess. Not sure which one yet, she hasn’t made up her mind (we have a lot of old costumes/dress up play clothes she can choose from).
My 2yo is going to be Jessie from her FAVORITE movie Toy Story. I spent maybe $10 on the whole thing and it came out really cute. She & I can’t wait for her to dress up.
Annie will be adorable no matter what she ends up wearing.
Kim says:
My kids are being a pirate, a lady bug, and a monkey. I love Halloween!
Ashley Collins says:
My mother was an art major in college… so my sister and I always had the craziest costumes. We were everything from a California Raisin (black tights, white gloves and a black trash bag), a bunch of grapes (green balloons pinned to a brown body suit) and even once I went as a molecule (3 hula hoops glued together with Styrofoam balls to represent electrons)– my degree ended up being in Chemistry so this wasn’t too out there for me!
Kelly says:
My 12-year-old wanted to dress up as a… 12-year-old boy. I told him that would look like he was just a pathetic boy asking people for candy. He has since settled on a nerd. I just need to find him a pocket protector.
My 5-year-old will be a UPS delivery man. Or as we call him in our family, “The Present Man”. (Cuz anytime the UPS man comes to our house, he brings us presents!)
Lacy says:
My little boy is going to be Charlie Brown. Maybe Annie can be Lucy!
Laura says:
My favorite that I remember was Little Red Riding Hood. My favorite part was the sparkly sequined belt that my mom made. Totally awesome.
Sarah Macon says:
OMGEEEEE I need this so bad!!! My baby girl is going a a duck for her first Halloween! Tell Annie good luck with her costume! I think she would make a cute monkey. Her video is seriously HILARIOUS!!
Rachel says:
I went as play-dough one year….My mom drew the label and i painted my face red…however walking around in a cylinder of corrugated cardboard is not easy
Nicole says:
Kael is going as Batman! this year. He’s obsessed.
Heather says:
My two and a half year old is going to be a mermaid this year! My favorite costume from childhood is a scarecrow. I think I really just liked that particular Halloween b/c my bestie was dressed as a man in a suit and it was hilarious!
Beth says:
My favorite halloween costume ever was Betty Rubble. My mom made me a blue dress and I got fake fur fabric and made a sabertooth tiger stole. My hair is dark and was cut into a bob at the time.
And this year, my little boy is going as a monkey. Which is fitting.
carra says:
My favorite costume was Cinderella when I was 4. I still remember being in awe of the beautiful blue dress.
Jess says:
Ooh, this is awesome. I think my favorite Halloween costume from my own childhood was the year I dressed up as an old lady. I wore this polka dot housedress that used to belong to my grandmother and carried a black patent leather pocketbook, and the crowning glory (to me, at the time) was that I put flour in my hair to make it gray.
Of course now I’m actually growing gray hairs, no flour required. Oh well.
Zoe says:
My little ones are Optimus Prime and a very PC native american princess…love the looks of that printer!!
Jennifer says:
My 2 oldest boys are going as knights, my youngest baby boy going as a triceratops. I am going to be Medusa and my husband will be a grecian warrior who has been turned to stone by my evil stare…
Dana says:
My favorite costume was when I was 2 years old- I told my mom I wanted to be a fireman so she got me all set. But then, the morning of Halloween I changed my mind and I wanted to be a princess. So, I wore my princess outfit under my fireman outfit and announced “I A PRINCESS” to all of my neighbors.
I don’t know what my daughter Eliana will be yet (she’s 16 months old), as her aunt is in charge and is surprising me!
Corinne says:
I wasn’t allowed to dress up for halloween. I even had to miss school the day of the halloween parade. (I was raised a Jehovah’s Witness)
Now that I’m old enough to decide for myself, my son will be dressing up as a dragon this year! It has a hood with the face of a dragon and a big squishy tail that sticks out the back. I’m soo excited!
Elle says:
My favorite costume was when I was about 5 years old. It had this hat you had to blow up and it was a green alien that stood a few feet above my head. It also came with some cheesy plastic top but to this day I love that costume. Whenever I see the pictures, it makes me crack up b/c I was such a tiny thing as a kid and had this huge, green alien on my head.
For my daughter’s first Halloween last year when she was 6 months old, we dressed her up as Bob Marley, including dreadlocks. She’s going as little red riding hood this year. We just can’t top Bob Marley.
Gamanda says:
My favorite costume was for last Halloween. Emberly was about 8 1/2 months old. I dressed her up in a pig costume. I then bought a Snuggie, cut a hole just about chest high, and put Emberly half way through the Snuggie. She was a pig in a blanket. It was perfect for the Colorado climate. Plus, since she wasn’t completely self-sufficient and mobile, I didn’t look like a complete jackass being in the pictures with her.
Shannon says:
My favorite halloween costume was the element of silver. I wasn’t really a child though- I was 19 and in college with no money. I went to the thrift store and a craft store and found this silver ironing board felt fabric and some crazy silver netting. I used a stapler, glue and scissors and made a tupe dress with aluminum foil sleeves, a silver hair net and put the atomic symbol with some cardboard glues to my front….oh, and my dress was held together by staples and since it was felt, I sweat my tail off.
Kate says:
I dressed up as a bookworm. For… eight or nine years straight. My mother made me use my ballet recital costumes for Halloween (in her defense, they were freaking expensive and we only did one performance), so after the requisite first two years (ballerina! fairy princess!) I started shucking off the tutus (it helped that my acro-jazz class wore a unitard. Wait, oh god. There are pictures of me in a unitard. Never mind) and adding homemade antennae to go as a bookworm. I also carried my favorite books. You can tell I was REALLY COOL in middle school.
Mindy says:
Minnie Mouse!! She would look adorable!
Printer looks amazing.
Vana says:
My favorite costume ever was the year I was the Statue of Liberty. My artistic friend Bonnie made me a wicked crown, draped me exactly like the picture of The Lady, and even painted my face a ghastly green! I won second place at a contest (and I was totally robbed, if you ask me). Thanks for a great giveaway opportunity!
Katie says:
For some reason, I desperately wanted to be Esmerelda from the Hunchback of Notre Dame when I was 15 (hey, I still like cartoons at 30) so I went out and got the materials myself, and with a little help from my mom, I made my costume. I think it is my favorite because I did it myself. Still proud of it, still have it and it still fits (though it was much bigger on me when I was 15 *hug elastic*).
Suzanne H says:
When I was in second grade, my mom sewed for me the most awesome Miss Piggy costume that has ever been made – complete with extra-big booty padding for that true Piggy rump!
Susan Powers says:
My favorite childhood costume and one that I used for my children, was a mouse. My current favorite is a baby dressed as a lobster in a big pot with Dad in chef whites. Some people thought it was horrifying, but I found it adorable.
Amanda C says:
Well, I have two red-headed boys, ages 13 and almost 10. I tried to get them to go as leprechauns this year….a resounding NO! Then, the husband suggested Laurel and Hardy….another NO! I’m thinking they should dress as devils year-round! They wouldn’t go as devils either. SO….the oldest is going as a mummy monster and the youngest as Jason from Friday the 13th. LOL Thanks for the wonderful give-away!! Happy Halloween!
Meghan says:
I think my favorite recent Halloween costume was a Care Bear. Though I think my friends’ kid has it won as Chewbacca.
Eva Havens says:
My 10 year old is going as a witch and my 21 month old is going to be a sugar plum fairy.
Melissa says:
My twins are going to be Buzz and Woody! Thanks!
Bobbi Janay says:
Ian is going as Jamie from Mythbusters.
Sarah G says:
My favorite costume when I was a child was Belle from beauty and the beast. Last year my husband and I were the Joker and Harly Quinn. This year we’re going to be Mario and Luigi. The printer is so amazing
amy l says:
It was the best the year I was in a Greek empress. My non-crafty mother crafted me a toga and vine headdress. It was the only handmade halloween costume ever and so comfy.
Nicole says:
My two-year-old daughter is going as a ladybug (partially her choice, a lot my choice of wanting to see her in the little antennae) and my seven-year-old son is going as a bat (totally his choice but I approve). I have never been very good at Halloween. I think I went as Tinkerbell for three Halloweens and Princess Leia for most of the others when I was a kid. But I’m creative in other ways! I swear!
Krystal says:
My 7 year old daughter is dressing up as a cheerleader, and my 4 year old daughter will be a bumblebee. My 2 year old son is going as a dinosaur and my 3 month old son is going to be the world’s cutest spider.
Charlotte Anne says:
I wouldnt say it was my FAVORITE but it’s the one that makes me laugh. I was a very fat kid, and HATED halloween. However, one year I decided at the last minute I wanted to participate so my mother dressed me up as…. wait for it…. THE EARTH! I wore a blue sweatshirt painted with clouds and green sweatpants. IT WAS HORRIBLE, but hysterical now!
molly says:
My daughter was Amelia Earhart last year (she was only a year old!)…her pop pop built her an airplane…we dressed her up like amelia… Goggles, scarf, and all… She won first prize in our town’s parade..we also LOVE LOVE Halloween!!!

Corrina says:
My girls are Woody from Toy Story (Jessie was sold out *sad face*), a princess and a flower. Last year my littlest girls were Minnie Mouse and a Ladybug. I loved those!!

Son Alex: Indiana Jones (again)
Son Aiden: Storm Trooper
Daughter Devin (almost 12): arctic princess with a stuffed squirrel attached to her, possibly being pulled in mini goat cart by our Newfoundland and Bernese Mtn. Dog.
Kristi Hutton says:
I’m going to break the rules and tell you my LEAST favorite Halloween costume: When my twin sister and I were 6, my mom made our costumes… TRASH! She painted our faces to look dirty and we wore trash bags. Needless to say, my twin girls will never be TRASH for Halloween
Lindsay says:
My favorite costume was when I went as Marie Antoinette, complete with gory “bleeding” across my neck. I think it was the year I was 24. Ever since then, it’s been downhill.
Sadie Miller says:
My son is going as Frankenstein.
Last year I made him a Popeye Costume that was so awesome I had strangers asking if they could buy it. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top that.
My hubby and I are going as Vampires.
Heather Taylor says:
My favorite costumes were Tweety Bird and Peter Pan.
Stefanie says:
hi – i liked being a skeleton!
Jenny Greene says:
My stepson (16) is going as The Todd from the tv show Scrubs. I’m predicting he will get more slaps than candy if he stays true to character!
Kayla says:
I was pip-longstalking when I was in elementary school….it was my favorite costume! Complete with red hair braided over a metal coat hanger that went over my head so my braids stuck straight out. It was priceless…now choose ME to win!
Karen says:
Many years ago I moved to a small town. On Halloween I dressed as a nun to take the kids trick or treating. Little did I know that there was a real nunnery in that town. Awkward yes, polite people yes~

In 2006 I dressed up as a deviled egg – a white dress (egg white) with two yellow felt circles (the yolk) sewn to the front and the back, a ptichfork and two little devil horn barrettes (which I just found again) in my hair. I got a ton of compliments and thoroughly enjoyed myself!
Terri says:
My favorite costume was from when I was 10, I went as a fly fisherman, fisherwoman, whichever. I used my grandfathers old rod and reel, fishing vest with ties and net.
Liz G says:
I dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood for probably 4 or 5 years in a row. My kids are now 9 and 10, and sadly, way beyond the cute costume stage. One is going as a werewolf, and the other as a football player.
Casey says:
My oldest, age 8, is going as Mario and my youngest, age 5, is going as Aurora, Sleeping Beauty who, according to my daughter is “the most beautiful princess of all.”
Kirsten says:
Oh my heavens. I have 3 costumes that stick out in my memory, and for that I cannot choose which one is my favorite…. but… here they are:
When I was 8-ish, I wanted to be Boy George. Horribly. It was the year that Karma Chameleon came out, and it was my favorite song ever…. so my mom and neighbor painstakingly braided my wig, put me in damn near a hobo outfit, and that damn hat, and away I went. And ironically enough, I was one of TWO Boy Georges. Odd, that.
When I was 12 or 13, I dressed up as a Ghostbuster. I took my snowsuit (coat and leggings), fastened that easter grass to the arms and legs, and my dad made the super awesome plasma ghost trapper things out of a cardboard box and pool filter tubing.
Last year, in the midst of my Twilight mania, I dressed up as Bella Cullen… red contacts for my eyes, and fangs from Vampfangs. it was AWESOME.
Now please pick me for the printer? Because mine just died, and I have a bazillion prints waiting to be made ROFL
Amber Deets says:
My favorite halloween was the year my mom dressed my sister and I up as presents. It was probably because she didn’t have the money as a single mom to buy costumes, but she designed big bows in our hair and dressed my sister up as a box of junior mints. She is very artistic and both of us got lots of compliments. I would love to win this printer!
Amy K says:
My toddler is going as a ladybug this year. We don’t own a single printer of any sort and it drives me crazy, so this prize has me drooling!
Tracy W. says:
When I was a kid me, my brother, my cousin and my best friend dressed up as the members of KISS. My mom did our makeup using of one of the album covers as her guide (no casettes or CD’s back then, but at least it wasn’t an 8-track!) and it was the best ever! Of course I am showing my age a bit, but it was too much fun.
KateB says:
In second grade, I was a Rubic’s cube…a painted cardboard box with some holes for my head and arms. It was a HUGE hit and I made another one a few years ago and won a costume contest.
Catherine says:
This is my first Halloween as a mom, and I was determined to make my daughter’s costume. Luckily she has an insane amount of hair for a ten-month old and it’s reddish-brown, so she makes the perfect Pebbles Flintstone!
Kat says:
My favorite costume that Ive ever gone as was a bathroom sink. The candy went “down the drain!” My mom helped my make it. I was 9. It was so incredible. And heavy. We used a real faucet. Terrible choice. Rope burn on my neck for daaaaays!
Carrie Y says:
My son is still undecided. And anti-costume, so I think he’ll be going as a cranky 3-year-old My toddler daughter is going to be a flower. I’ve never in my life dressed up for Halloween and wont be this year either
Lori says:
My absolute fave was “mama” from Mama’s Family! my friends and I had a hoot. My mom got me a real wig and everything! I had the best costume at the party!
my absolute worst: car wreck victim. that damn fake blood stained everything.
Erin W says:
My son is going as Superman and my daughter is going as a zebra. At three and a half months, the cute will be almost too much!
Nicole says:
I went to school as a wizard, but by the end of the day, after getting tired of lugging my backpack from class to class by hand, I instead shoved it UNDER my cape — and thanks to a recent art history class, everyone started calling me Toulouse-Lautrec (because I was a little under 5 feet tall with a noticeable hunch-back) [how un-PC! But it was the 80s, and PC’edness had not yet been invented LOL])!
Gina says:
Love this! My daughter is going to be Cinderella, my son a ninja!!
Michelle & Layla says:
This is my daughter’s second Halloween. Before her, I used to dress up my dogs (a great dane/lab mix and a pit bull) This year they’re going to match! Layla, our 20 month old HUMAN daughter, is going to be Yoda, our lab is going to be Han Solo, and the pit Princess Laia. I’m trying to convince my husband to go as Chewbacca…
Mandy says:
Wow! Awesome prize
My favorite costume was when I dressed up as a Hershey’s kiss. And my 2 year old son is going as Scooby-Doo this year
Laura says:
When I was in 4th grade I got all industrious and made myself an M&M costume. I cute and painted a huge box yellow, painted M&Ms on the side, painted my head green (I guess my favorite M&Ms were green?), and wore a yellow turtleneck and yellow tights. My lack of attention to details quickly showed through – the stupid thing didn’t fit in my mom’s station wagon, so on every stop I had to take it off, throw it in the back, get back in the car, get it out, throw it back on, etc. My sisters were not exactly patient with the whole process. But I definitely rocked it!
This year, my 5 year old daughter is going as Ahsako Tano. Before this little adventure I had NO IDEA who that was, but apparently it’s a female Jedi Warrior from Clone Wars – which she watches religiously with her father. But I googled it and quickly decided I’m destined to completely mess up the face paint. But I love that she’s a tomboy.
My little squeezer 2 year old daughter is going as a butterfly fairy. I have to admit I’m more excited for this one both because her little baby belly is sure to show through the bunchy top, and because there is no face makeup to mess up.
I love Halloween!
Kate says:
I have 2 favorite costumes from my childhood
When my dad made me an oreo, and when I was an organ grinder, Loved it.
This year my kids are going as
Gypsie(12)
Inspector gadget (complete with propellar hat) he’s 9
SPiderman
and my youngest is going to be BamBam and my niece Pebbles
casie c. says:
My son is going as a dinosaur this year. Not original, but totally his obsession right now!
Katie says:
My daughter (age 9) is going as a mad scientist (with a crazy wig) and my son (age 6) may go as a pirate or superhero. He can’t make up his mind.

Ok, best adult costume – 2 years ago my husband dressed up as Dog the Bounty Hunter & I dressed up as his wife, Beth.
This year our 6 month old daughter is going as a pumpkin – sort of. I made her an orange tutu, ordered her a onesie off of etsy.com with a ‘b’ on in in halloween fabric, orange tights, & a halloween bow:) too sweet.

Amber says:
I went as Marilyn Monroe one year…complete with the flowing white dress. favorite costume ever!
Erin says:
My daughter is going as a princess riding a white unicorn. Reuse the princess costume from last year, add a suspender-held unicorn, and voila! I’m still struggling with my costume. The choices seem to be shameless wh*re or gross creature. Where’s the in-between?!?
alice says:
My kids are going to be Scooby and Shaggy. They’ve been practicing talking like them too and it’s super cute!
rachel says:

Carin says:
Last year, I got to do something I’ve always, always wanted to do: I dressed up as Elizabeth Bennett, and made my husband go as Mr. Darcy. From the Wet Shirt Scene of the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. It was kind of magnificent. I made my outfit out of, essentially, scraps and hot glue. I couldn’t buy an empire waist regency era dress anywhere, so I made a super-long skirt that tied just under the – ahem – bust area, and it matched the top above it so well that it looked like one piece. I also made a bonnet out of a straw sun hat, and I had little white gloves. ‘Mr. Darcy’ was simpler – a re-purposed open-necked pirate shirt, black pants, and a black top hat. We carried around a little misting bottle to maintain the optimum level of see-throughage.
Now, this was for a friend’s Halloween birthday party, and she’s terrified of all things zombie. The conundrum was that we had a party to attend the next day that was nothing BUT zombie – zombie themed, in fact. So after her party we splashed a ton of fake blood all over the outfits, armed ourselves with plastic machetes, and went as Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I am especially proud of that one.
Karyn says:
My favorite costume was when my mom made me a red crayon custome, complete with a hat shaped like the point of a crayon!

Zandi says:
My son is going as his favorite TV character> JACK! from Jack’s Big Music Show . They don’t sell those in stores so I’ve made it and I think its pretty cool. Imma be Mary – his best friend coz she’s super swell.

Kelly says:
My older son, Kai, is going as Thomas the Train this year. My younger son, Jax, refuses to wear anything on his head for long periods of time, so he is going as a little doctor in little scrubs, carrying a stethoscope.
Cindy says:
Favorite costumes by far were my boys dressed as Sully and Mike Wazowski. Too bad they grow up to be teenagers with their own ideas!
Dee Dee says:
I just love giveaway days!!!!!
My favorite costume was at my son’s 2001 Halloween party! My costume could only be described as Bubba’s Momma. It was horendous but sooooo worthy of my time. I wore my grandma’s moo-moo and filled one of her bras with stuffing along with a pair of her granny panties filled with stuffing – translate a big ole’ butt! The bra was they typical old fashioned grandma with boobs hanging like tube socks with a tennis ball in them Then to top it off I put in old plastic foam curlers and lots of pretty blue eyeshadow. And last but not least I put in my Bubba teeth and applied prostitute red lipstick…some to my lips a little on those teeth :):) Loved It!
Kate says:
When I was in eighth grade, I wasn’t going to do the whole Halloween thing until about three days before Halloween, when my (punk) friends changed their “Halloween is lame” tune to “OMG FREE CANDY.” I was desperate to participate (hi, eighth grade, peer pressure much?) but I literally had no costume and my parents refused to buy me one. (They have, to date, never paid money for a Halloween costume. Every one I or my siblings ever wore was handmade.) My solution was to take a black dress out of my closet and a plastic meat cleaver from several Halloweens before and be “an angry wife who wanted to kill her husband.”
No, really. I even taped red construction paper to the knife to look like “blood.”
Every house tried guessing what I was. No one got it right. I was a “zombie bride” or a “dead woman” or “Lizze Borden” (it wasn’t an axe! C’mon!). But hey, I got candy, so who was I to complain?
(Though last year, I went as a judge, which was pretty cool. Since I worked at a school and my students got a kick out of it. Fun fact: a Harry Potter hardback can pass as a law book if you re-cover it. No joke.)
Jeni says:
My all time favorite is when the whole family, including the dog, dressed up as pirates. This year the kids are going as a pirate, a baby and Anakin Skywalker.
Melissa says:
My 2-year-old is going as a doggy! But he is staying with my mom this year because I have to stay as inactive as possible to not put myself into early labor. No Trick-or-Treating for me.
sarah says:
My 2 year old daughter wanted to be something “scary” so she choose a lady bug. That’s right, a “scary” lady bug. I got her the costume and now she has changed her mind and wants to be Annie because that’s her favorite movie.
Maggie says:
What a cool printer!
My favorite Halloween costume was a 50’s girl…I think that I wore that costume three years in a row!

My ‘kid’ (aka dog, Orion) is going as a basketball player. I’m currently wondering how he feels about a head sweatband! I’m excited about the chance to win a printer! I was JUST thinking I needed a new one!
Julia says:
I was a ladybug for YEARS – love them!
This year, I’m going to be Yoshi and my roommate (85 lbs, 4’9″) is going to be Mario – she’s going to ride on my back ha ha ha
Amanda says:
I was just a saloon girl last Halloween which was amazing!
But I have a favorite childhood costumes: Martha Washington (nerdy I know). Both were fairly original which I liked. Hard for Annie to pull off at this juncture though.
Annie could be a flapper (feather in head band, sparkly dress) or perhaps she could put some dreads on, Jamaican colors, and be Babe Marley (I came up with that name on the spot!) or she could rock a gray one piece and be Mini Me. I could probably keep going. I love Halloween and costumes!
Jen T. says:
My husband is a loyal Minnesota Vikings Fan. Our baby was due at the beginning of this past March and the running joke was that if the Vikings won the Superbowl we’d name him Brett (after Favre, of course!). Thank goodness that didn’t happen! Anyhow-one of my husband’s coworkers took a plain white onesie and ironed on a football decal on the front and wrote “Favre” in purple letters on the back. So-combined with the Vikings track suit we have, my son will be Brett Favre, and his Daddy will wear his Favre jersey, and I’ll just wear my super comfy Vikings sweatshirt. Not so sure now with all this gross Favre stuff going on in the news – but, it’s what we already have and it’ll work! If nothing else it will make for a great picture.
Amanda says:
My fav was not at all originial (indian princess) but i luvvvved the awesome suede tall, lace-up boots for it.
Stacie Catanzaro says:
I went as Elvira from the Adam’s Family when I was 7 years old and won a fun little medal. Maybe it will bring me luck.
Kristabella says:
I think one of my best costumes was when I dressed all in black and followed a friend around and went as her shadow.
That worked well until I got really drunk and was nowhere near her and then I was just the weird chick dressed all in black.
Erin says:
I dressed up like a birthday present one year in a giant box I could barely walk in!
Isabel says:
Adam will be a mummy and Sophia will be Strawberry Shortcake. I would love to be able to print their photos!!!
Jewl says:
This year my husband had a brilliant idea. We usually spend a mint on costumes and then with a 3 year old (2 last year) he tears it off and screams and stomps and goes as himself anyhow, so hence the brilliant idea… They are in soccer, they already have soccer uniforms. How about they be soccer players? Winner Daddy! and winner Mommy – no spending 60 bucks on costumes. Even better – they both are in LOVE with the idea. WAhooo! oh, and i wanna win the printer

Ashley S says:
My 4 year old daughter is going to be Abby Cadabby this year and my 6 month old son is a Lil Monster. It is the CUTEST. COSTUME. EVER! His fat little face in the mask makes me want to pinch his cheeks all day long!!
When I was a kid, my sister and I were trees. My Mom dyed sweatsuits brown and she made us ‘tree tops’ out of fabric and then she tied a clothes line around our waist & hung doll clothes on it to make it look like a clothes line. That was my all-time favorite costume! Everyone took pictures of us that year!
Anna says:
Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to celebrate Halloween (sad, I know!), so the whole dressing up business has been lost on me. I believe the few times I HAVE dressed up, it wasn’t anything to speak of.
I also do not have children. HOWEVER, at least one of my future children (gender be damned) will dress as a babyshark (Shark being my husband’s nickname; precious, right?) such as this:
http://www.objetdujour.com/blog/images/Habillement/costume%20requin.jpg
Can’t. Wait.

I wore adult footed pajamas and carried a bottle full of Coke whenever I was 11 or 12. I was a baby and it rocked!
Aimee says:
Seriously my all time favorite Halloween costume was in college when I dressed up as Monica Lewinsky: wig, cigar, and stained dress an all! And sadly only got 2nd place in the contest. I lost to some couple that dressed up at a stamp and a letter! I mean COME ON!!!! Anyway…totally DO NOT recommend Annie dressing up as Monica because it would totally be awkward.
So my fav kiddie costume was a few years back when I dressed my son up as a skunk! It was hilarious. Nothing like watching an 18 month old trying to walk with a big ol’ tail behind him!
Nikki says:
When I was pregnant with my first son by Halloween I was rocking a great 8 month belly. I wore a pre-pregnancy white tank top, a pair of my husband’s ripped jeans, work boots & a flannel shirt. I gave myself a make shift mullet and used eye shadow to give myself 5:00 shadow, a unibrow & a ‘happy trail’ on the area of belly popping out from under the tank. I was an empty beer bottle carrying redneck! Oh I think I blacked out a couple teeth too. It was great to let my big baby belly hang out and show it off in a fun way!
That printer ROCKS! And my son loves that commercial too.
meg palmer says:
I was a purple octopus when I was little. It was the best costume ever! My legs were pipe cleaners and wire covered in purple glittery fabric, and I had a purple sweatshirt with glitter and be-dazzled swirly things. and my head had a purple hood with little ears like a hippo, lol.
Meghank says:
My little dude is going to be a shark (he’s almost two). He hasn’t yet perfected the duh duh….duh duh…duh duh sounds, but hopefully we’ll be there soon!

My favorite costume was a lady pilgrim that my mom made by hand.
Wish I still had it.

Christina Fasano says:
Well, I have 3 little girls (ages 5, 2 and 9 months). My oldest will be a ladybug, my toddler will be a bumblebee and my youngest is a going to be a butterfly. I will be dressing up as the Bug catcher, which is pretty much similar to my daily life anyways (chasing around these kids all day).
Becky C. says:
My favorite Halloween costume was Sandy from Grease!!
My daughter is going as a puppy this year…she’s crazy about animals, dogs esp. and she would not hear of going as anything else. It’s not easy finding a puppy costume for a 6 yr old that’s very tall for her age!:( She was a zebra last year and a black kitten for the 2 yrs before that (yes! same thing 2 yrs in a row!). I’m dying a little. When I had my daughter, I dreamed of her being a bride, Princess Belle and Dorothy (Wizard of Oz…we live in Ks!), but she wil have none of it!:(
And when my son was younger, we found him an awesome tiger costume (his name is Ty and he’s crazy about tigers…go figure!) and he wore it for 3 yrs…it was a little big when we bought it and a little small the last yr he wore it!
That’s my very long story and I’m stickin’ to it!;) Thanks for the opportunity!
Laura says:
My favorite costume is actually one I made for my child (ren). It was a pile of leaves complete with them carrying a rake..so cute…won every contest it was entered in, which important in this house because my hubby and I compete against each other to make the best costumes. Katie D says:
I always had uncreative Halloween costumes (ghost, mime, cat, devil, princess, etc)…so I would have to say out of my pathetic use of creativity costumes I would say being a goddess during my freshman year of college. I was kind of broke – so I bought a few yards of $1 fabric from Wal-mart and wrapped myself up in it and tied it off with some $1 ribbon as well. Everyone goes out for Halloween their first year of college – I was NOT going to let being broke keep me from dressing up!!!
Mom24@4evermom says:

Last year, she was a cowgirl and I tried so hard to get her brother to wear a pony costume but he refused and went out with his skeleton pjs on instead. I think the “Matched Pair” costumes are beyond my persuasive abilities! (thanks for this chance to win, btw!)

nancie says:
ohhh..this is funny. i remember the worst costume i HAD to wear…my mom made me a robot costume (back in the 70’s)…a cardboard box for the body…smaller box for the head…and dryer duct thingys for the arms. oh, and kleenex boxes on my feet. all of that spray painted silver…of course! i had 3 dials on the front of me and a slot that said ‘input’ – that’s where the treats went..she had sewn something in there to catch the candy.
oh it was horrible. i remember CRYING underneath that costume…but funny…now i’d give anything to have that costume again!

My daughter had a poodle skirt over a petti, ruffle socks, popped collar shirt, sparkly neck scarf, great rolled bangs, topped off with a fancy ponytail and big red bow. My bows had their hair gelled back, rolled up pants, white shirts with sleeves rolled up, combs in their back pockets, ad loose ties around the neck. Oh, my daugher had great cat eye sunglasses and my boys black rimmed glasses. then, for costume #2 my daughter is an angel. She has a white-tu-tu, with a white leo, huge feather boa wings, fluffy halo, and you cant forget her harp. And #2 for the boys, Ninjas

We made my son his costume this year!! Its a Batman Monster Truck. It was a lot of work, and probably cost double what a generic costume would have cost. But the look on his face, when he saw the finished product, was well worth it.

She has gotten SO many compliments on her originality and her cuteness!
I’m sure Annie will be cute in anything she wears!!
Chris says:
One year as a kid I was SO EXCITED to dress as a pirate- I had tattered black and white striped shorts and a black vest to wear over a white T. Colleen says:
My all time favorite was a bridesmaid’s dress I had worn the previous winter. It was electric blue, sleeveless, slit up to the thigh, with a matching tulle capelet that opened in the back. They were originally going to be trimmed in white fur, but it was decided that it was too much. So instead they went with the much more subtle blue sequined trim. I made no changes to the dress (or dyed to match 3.5 inch heels). I simply made a cardboard sign that read:
“Friends Don’t Make Friends Dress Like This!
Stop Bridesmaid Abuse!”
I hung the sign around my neck and went to the parties.
BEST COSTUME EVAH!

At the request of my six year old, our family is going as the Berenstein Bears. Hi Heather!
This year my 3 1/2 year old daughter is dressing as an equestrian girl! To say she is obsessed with horses would be an understatement! She looks adorable and she will be toting around her stick horse because, well, it’s the best accessory ever!
I was Jackie O for a Halloween party my Senior year of high school. It was a costume rented from a vintage boutique! It was perfect down to the pill hat! Although somehow I think it was far too advanced for some of my fellow classmates!

Kristy H says:
My son is going to be a Ghoul with glowing eyes, and my daughter is going as Alex from Wizards of Waverly Place!
One of my favorite costumes growing up was a flower. My Mom cut the flower out of cardboard and then we used colored tissue to make the petals colorful. Nothing overly special, but I think because we did it together it’s one of my favorites!
Liana says:
this is the first year that i’ve let my girl pick her own costume. she’ll be 8 in january. lol.
year 1- a 50’s girl, with poodle skirt and everything
year 2- monkey
year 3- tinkerbell
year 4- minnie mouse
year 5- belle
year 6- liana (from a barbie movie, and, it’s my name. lol)
year 7- dorothy, with a rabid toto stuffed animal in a basket
i worked really hard helping her decide what to be every year. this year, she picked her very own costume, and…
she’s going to be vampira.
where did i go wrong? lol
Beverly says:
A couple of years ago I did a Halloween pub crawl on a commuter train and the costume theme was “transportation.” I was a “train wreck” à la Lindsay/Britney/Anna Nicole. I wore a party dress with a bathrobe and mismatched flip flops, had mascara tears, ratty hair, etc. and swilled from a vodka bottle (full of water) all night, it was pretty awesome if I do say so!
Ali says:
My favorite outfit I ever dressed up as was probably Esmerelda from the Hunchback of Notredame! Complete with my stuffed goat (although it was a pain in the butt to carry around everywhere).
John says:
My whole family is going to dress up like pirates! We do this each year and the costumes seem to get better and better as we add new accessories over the years.
Sarah says:
My 2.5 year old daughter is going as Cinderella and despite her desire for her brother to be Cinderella too, he picked a devil. Yes, my 1 year old is in love with a devil costume.
Mia C. says:
Oooh! I have a good one: gum on the bottom of a shoe.
I dressed in all pink, and tied a shoe to my head.
Amy says:
For the past year my (now 4-year old) daughter has been asking to be a donut for Halloween. So I went ahead and made her a donut costume and she actually won the most original costume at our Boo at the Zoo event this past weekend. Whoo hoo!!
Sara mc. says:
One year my mom made my sister Kristi and I M&M costumes. She spent a while on finding the right fabric, placing the M on there, and then time bending wire hangers into the shape of the M&M. I loved that costume and probably wore it for weeks afterward.
JAS says:
My son was a shark from Pottery Barn, very cute! My favorite was the year I was My Little Pony, plastic bag costume and plastic pony face.
Keara I says:
My best costume ever was being a fake id. I had two forms, a school id and drivers license, with obviously conflicting data and photos. This was way before “McLovin”. Crowd-pleaser for sure.
Shelly says:
I have a 3 year old daughter who is SUPER opinionated. She always knows what she wants, especially “fashion-wise”. She decided a couple of months ago that she wants to be a ghost for Halloween. A blue ghost! So, my mother-in-law had to make her a blue ghost costume. She’s already using more creativity for her costumes than I ever did! LOL. She looks adorable in her costume, but I imagine she’ll have to explain exactly what she is to some people – good thing she won’t mind a bit! Haha.
Sheila says:
Girls (almost 2&5) are both going as Hello Kitties – the younger one will do whatever her big sister does so hopefully by dressing them the same I’ll avoid many tears!
Alicia says:
My favorite costume I wore was cat woman. I think I was about 6 years old, and my mom wouldn’t let me wear the fake nails it came with because she was worried I’d scratch someone.
Lee Cockrum says:
What a great prize!! My favorite costume was Pippi Longstocking. I had long hair, so I braided it around a straightened out metal hanger, so I could turn my pigtails up like her. Then mismatched crazy socks etc. I did that intermittently for a number of years. I work with kids, and they really think it is fun.
Brynne says:
My two year old son is going as Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.
Kristen says:
I remember dressing up as a doctor in high school. I really shouldn’t have been trick-or-treating at that age.
Shelli Gentry says:
Love your family! My favorite costume growing up was Raggedy Ann that was hand made by my mom and grandma. Or it could have been the angel costume also made by mom and grandma. My daughter is going to be a cowgirl…. She wanted to be a witch but I persuaded her to be a cowgirl as I spent alot of money on her to take her to the rodeo…. LOL!
Jill says:
In college, I dressed as a little girl and went trick or treating with three sorority sisters who dressed as my crayons.
Ashley says:
I don’t have kids yet but my little cousins are going as Ninja Turtles. I can’t believe they’ve made a comeback again!
Marsha says:
My favorite costume was when me and my best buddy dressed up as Jack in the Box atennae balls. (atenna?? Attenae??—well you know what I’m talking about!)
Amy says:
That printer looks amazing!
My son is going to be Superman, and my daughter is going to be Snow White. We already dressed them up for a party last weekend and they looked adorable!
Em says:
We are dressing the dog up as a bunch of grapes! I think we might match!
SportsMom says:
I laughed hardest last year at a chick magnet costume my nephew wore – dressed all in black with fuzzy baby chicks glued all over him. He also wore Raybans and “did” his hair, so he looked extra cool
UnicornMommie says:
My boys are going as a Nija and a dalmation, I am going as a witch. Can’t believe Annie is 9 months already, she is adorable.
Cassie says:
I was Mimi from the Drew Carey Show a few years ago (the night I started dating my soon-to-be-fiance, actually). I found this fantastic/atrocious button-up one piece suit thing, made my hair huge, put on gobs of blue eye shadow, and stuffed two large pillows down the front and back. Needless to say, there was a bit of a…umm….visual in the front of the suit thanks to to the pillows and the fact it was all one piece. It was a HUGE hit (from those who knew who I was, anyway), and apparently didn’t scare off my new significant other!
Katie says:
My favorite Halloween was probably last year, my friends and I dressed up as zombie gangsters and went to Salem MA for the day!
Jennifer says:
My daughter will be a cow. She’s obsessed with cows. We watch random YouTube videos of cows everyday. It seemed fitting that it would be her Halloween Costume.
Danyelle says:
My 14 month old is being a gnome and my 5 year old is going as a cowgirl.
Arianne says:
My 3 year old will be an itsy bitsy spider; my month old will be a dragon; I would love that printer to print up the pictures.
erin says:
My 5 year old is going to be Wonder Woman (inc. lasso of truth), and the 2.5 year old is going to be Tony the Tiger (Grrrrrreat!).
Jessica says:
My favorite Halloween costume as a kid was when I was smurfette. I loved it so much, I wore it two years in a row.
Kelsey Imondi says:
When I was in third grade my mom made me an awesome mummy costume. She tore a white sheet into strips, dyed them to make them look old and dirty, and then sewed them onto a sweatshirt and sweatpants (so I wouldn’t get cold!). It was an amazing costume and definitely a tie for one of my favorites. Hmm, I should mention my other favorite since it would be adorable on little Annie… During my sophmore year of college my mom (she’s amazing!) helped me make a penguin costume out of black and white fleece, it was super cozy and warm! Sadly I was not the only penguin at a party that year and I thought I was being original!
Abigail @ Skywaitress says:
Ok, totally lame but I don’t really dress up for Halloween. I do however dress up my little dog. This year she’s going to be a dinosaur and it’s freaking adorable.
Kate says:
My little man is dressing up as King of the Playschool Jumper Jungle! Photos here: http://nowglowing.blogspot.com/2010/10/fall-festivities-part-i.html
Amber says:
When I was around 13, my best friend and I thought we were officially to old to go trick-or-treating, but we didn’t want to be left out of Halloween. Are church was having a trunk-or-treat event where people decorated the trunks of their cars in the parking lot and people brought their kids to trick-or-treat at the cars. Anyway, my friend and I decorated her mom’s car like Noah’s ark. We still wanted to dress up, so we dressed as angels and declared ourselves Ark-angels…get it? Ark-angels, archangels…what can I say? We were 13 and we thought it was funny.
Kim says:
I have a daughter that is going as a typical witch and my 10 year old son has decided to go as a BANANA! too funny!!!!
Leslie says:
My daughter is going as a cow…because it’s adorable and after Halloween she can get free kids meals at Chick fil a…yes, it’s a sickness. =)
Karen D says:
Can I win twice by doing both? My favorite costume memory is from when I was about 6 or 7: I was a robot. A cardboard box covered in tacky-not-quite-dry metallic paint. I feel loved every time I remember my parents making that costume for me.
And this year? My son will be a dragon. A red dragon who will trick or treat through the dorms later this week, and through the neighboring houses this weekend. (Our mascot in this college town? A red dragon.)
katie kavulla. says:
My daughter Janie is being a witch for the 4th year running! We always *think* we’ve come up with a new costume idea, but always end up back as a witch in the end.
Jody says:
My 3yr old is going as a ladybug (she calls her antennas my “earrings”). and my 7 yr old is going as a cheerleader.
Shiree says:
Our 3 year old is going as DJ Lance Rock…again…don’t want to buy another costume
Jessica says:
My favorite Halloween was last year when our whole family dressed up as the Scooby gang, complete with a golf cart outfitted just like the Mystery Machine! I was Velma, my husband was Shaggy, our kids were Daphne and Scooby Doo, and an uncle was Fred. So much fun!
Liesel says:
Last year, a group of friends and I went as Strawberry Shortcake and Friends. I was Blueberry Mufin. That was pretty fun.
Dana markawicz says:
My Sons ( ages 6 and 3) are obsessed with super heros! They always put costumes on and wrestle in them. My youngest actually believes he has powers! Anyway my oldest is being iron man and you gest is being batman. They always ask me to join in so I am being batgirl! We have already had alot of fun in our costumes!!
Caitlin says:
When I was in 5th grade, I was a garden. It was kind of amazing. My mom made it out of a sheet of dark green vinyl that I wore like a sandwich board with fake flowers sticking out of the front. I think I wore green tights too. The best part, though, was the watering can I carried to collect my candy!
Tiffany says:
My daughter is going as a Tiger Swallowtail butterfly. She has an amazing love for all things butterfly including an Audubon book which she memorized over half of the North American Butterflies. Needless to say a little Etsy later, she is ready to take on Halloween!
Marianne says:
As a kid, my favorite costume was Little Red Riding hood, with a homemade red corduroy cape! I can’t wait for my little girl to be big enough to wear it. She’s going as a garden gnome this year.
Brenda Vicario says:
Hmmm…our printer is ancient and a new one would be oh so nice!
My 3 year old daughter is going to be a Daisy (flower) for Halloween. The costume is so cute with the flower petals blooming out around her back and a headband with a daisy on it. My 11 month old son is going to be a turtle. He recently won 3rd place in a costume contest because he is so frickin adorable…I’m not at all biased:)
Kelly says:
My favorite costume of my own was the year that I was Phantom of the Opera. I had this great two-part mask that the white came off and you had the scar going on. That year was my mom’s 50th birthday and we did a surprise costume party (her birthday is on Halloween), and she didn’t even know it was me (even though the bottom half of my face was uncovered).
My other favorite costume was my son’s last year–he was Santa Claus–he even gave candy canes away to the homeowners and kids on the street (after asking their parents if it was ok). He was 12 last year, but was already about 5’6″, so he definitely did a great job. And it was a blast to be walking down the street and seeing the little ones faces light up at getting to see Santa so early. Several of them did tell them what they wanted.
Finally, this year my youngest is going to be Pumpkin Spice–she has cute little orange dress with white shawl collar and white boot covers and an orange wig with the pumpkin stem off the top. She is adorable!
I think Annie should go as a Giants cheerleader–ok, they don’t have cheerleaders, so she can go as a Giants bat girl!
Wendy says:
Samantha is going to be Tinkerbell!!!! She is very excited about her first Halloween…and she loved Annie & Rigby’s video.
beck says:
this year I have the best (and easiest) costume. I am going o be a sprocket from the early 90s SNL skit. Black leggings (yay, for not wearing real pants!) and a turtle neck.
easy. funny. original.
amber skalicky says:
Im kind of a nerd, and my kids insist on me dressing up, so i have officially been an oreo for about 6 years, the best part, the big round cookie body, the worst part, uhm the dallop of kool whip hat, so nerdy, and it kind of looks like birdpoop on my head, ugh! Maybe this year i will go as my true inner beauty, a witch ;0)
Kara Beu says:
One of my favorite costumes from when I was a little girl was when I was dressed as Raggedy Ann!
Sara says:
My 12 year old daughter is going to be Link from Legend of Zelda. She lovingly insisted I make it from scratch. Without knowing anything about the character. Should be fun! My 8 year old daughter is still rolling around in her mounds of dress up clothes trying to decide. My 5 year old is back and forth from Doctor Who to a zombie. Maybe a Doctor zombie?! My 3 year old son will be a pumpkin and our 12 month old is wearing his skeleton pj’s and even though they were store bought and not even a real costume – he might be the cutest! Watching those little bones run around is too cute.
Dawn says:
My kids are still up in the air about what to be this year. But, I do remember my favorite costume was when my mother dressed me up in her old clothes, put make up in me and let me push my baby doll in my little stroller. I was my mommy! I loved that and I wanted to be her every year. I still want to be a mother like my mother.
Holla says:
My 11 month old is going to be a pumpkin princess and my 2 year old is going to be snow white. I love Halloween!
Alison says:
My ds is going as a toucan. The hood is the head/beak.
My dd is going as a fancy witch, although today she told me she wants to be a unicorn or a mermaid.
Bridget says:
My 7 month old daughter is dressing up as a pumpkin – she chose that over the skunk (little stinker) and the giraffe by smiling more when I dressed her up in that one It’s unoriginal but adorable!
Cindy says:
This year Predator monster. I miss the days when I left him in a diaper, put a baby blue t-shirt on him and said he was Tommy from Rugrats.
I love Annie & Rigsby’s video… I kept hearing the refrain in my head alll weekend
” I don’t know what to be for Halloween….”
Jenny says:
fave costume was a princess!
katie says:
My 2 older boys aren’t sure they want to dress up this year. My 3rd son is gonna be a gangster and my baby girl is going as a peacock. I made a tutu and a “backpack” of feathers. It is BEAUTIFUL – excuse me while I pat my own back!!!
Bekki says:
I was supremely proud of my costume last year: Mayor Adam West from Family Guy. I’ve also gone as Colonel Sanders and Ursula from The Little Mermaid. My maltese Valentino is going as a cowboy, complete with tiny hat! The printer looks excellent, and that ePrint is super sweet.

Amanda says:
My 10 month old daughter is going to be a fire-breathing dragon and I am going to be a woodland fairy. My husband said he’s going trick-or-treating as the getaway driver.
Lauren says:
One year my mom dressed me as a dining room table. The costume consisted of one (too) large cardboard box with arm and head holes cut out. When placed over my head, the width of the box rendered my arms to little more than two stubby hands jutting horizontally out. My movement was drastically reduced and my hands proved ineffective for anything more coordinated than flapping around in ill fated attempts to throw M&Ms in the general vicinity of my face. My mom glued a paper plate around the head hole, which made it appear as though my 9 year old head was the succulent main course. I decorated a paper table cloth with my own crayoned rendition of lace and we properly arranged and attached plastic bowls, cutlery, cups, and napkins on top. It’s hard to choose the perfect accessories to compliment a 3 foot wide box, but I think the magenta suede fringed boots and red plastic framed glasses a la Sally Jesse Raphael were wise choices. I think I won a prize for that costume.
punkinmama says:
Well, the plan was for Punkin to be Luigi & my Hubs to be Mario. Though for the past couple of days, Punkin keeps saying he wants to be Buzz Lightyear (who he was *last* year). I already sold that costume, so hoping we won’t be having a meltdown come trick-or-treat night!
Lindsay says:
I dressed up as a Beach Boys CD when I was little…
Mariette says:
My son is dressing up like buzzlightyear .
Jennifer Dawn says:
This is my daughter’s first Halloween (she is just a week younger than Annabel!) and she is going as a fairy. We found a sparkly, red fairy dress with wings at the Ren Faire this year. Can’t wait!
Trisha says:
My 10 month old is going to be little red riding hood & (yes 2 costumes) Olivia newton John from her “physical” music video.
And I rocked a seriously awesome cat woman costume in the 1st grade that will always be my favorite.
Brea says:
My favorite costume was when I was 5 years old, and went as an angel. But Ohio Halloweens are so cold that my mom made me wear a snow suit under the costume. The costume was bursting at the seams, and I could barely move my arms. So halfway through trick or treating, I took the dress off but left the halo on, and told people that I was an angel that didn’t want to be fancy that day :).
isadora says:
My little girl will be a kitty this year! Good luck picking out Annie’s costume!
Amy says:
One year I was a stud finder – I wore a cardboard box with lights, and whenever i found a stud (hot guy), I’d turn the lights on!
My nephew has an elephant costume this year, but I’m not convinced that we’re going to be able to get him in it…
Trisha says:
Btw- I too have a dog named Eleanor Rigby & it always cracks me up when people call her Rigsby!!! (sorry Previous poster, but it’s a common mispronunciation I guess)
Sara says:
My 5 year old will be rocking the Tinkerbell look, and my 2 year old will be Tigger. My oldest was Tigger years ago, so when I found a costume in an appropriate size, I couldn’t resist!
BTW, I can’t wait to see pics of Annie in her costume, whatever *she* chooses!
Crysi says:
My oldest daughter will be tinkerbell (again!) this year & the twins are going to be a bumble & ladybug.
By the way, Annie’s song was stuck in my head for days!
cate says:
My son is Darth Vader, because I no longer get to choose adorable costumes for him. My daughter is going as a bee. And I only have a B&W printer! there’s no way I can print photos, except to go to CVS or something drastic like that.
Brittany Albert says:
My favorite costume as a kid was a table. I even had a flower centerpiece hat. It was so awesome!
Cassandra says:
First of all, I just wanted to tell you how cute Annie is! She’s growing up so fast; it seems like just yesterday she was brand new…
One year, for Halloween, I went as a fairy. I had wings, and awesome shoes (which I still wear to this day; I got them at Maurices), and even false eyelashes which were about an inch and a half long, with red tips. I had glitter all over (which took days to finally wear off). Halfway through the night, I noticed that my eyelashes felt weird. (They were heavy, and I’d never worn falsies before.) One of them was falling off. I yanked it off, but I couldn’t get the other one off without removing my eye lid. So I went with one false eyelash.
I was, therefore, a fairy that had been in an accident.
Amanda says:
One year my husband and I dressed up as an old couple. It was awesome, people didn’t recognize us! This year our 2 year old is undecided, could be Elmo or a fireman.

Donna Y says:
I went as a hobo when I was 4 or 5….ratty flannel shirt, stubble made with eyeliner pencil, bandanna tied on my head, empty bottle in a paper bag. Hey, it was the 80’s.
Hal Wofford says:
I am a little person (dwarf) and last year at work, I dressed as a Vampire/Pimp, so I was Mini-VanPimp – Probably be the same this year, it worked out well last year
Nikki says:
My son is going to be an owl and my daughter a duck. They are six and two.
amanda says:
I was a caterpillar when I was in 7th grade. I was so proud of myself and my homemade costume. Unfortunately, when it came time for trick-or-treating, the neighbors all complained to me that I was too old. BOO!

Thanks!

We’re geeking out for Halloween this year. My son is going to be a Newspaper Zombie from the game Plants vs. Zombies. I’m going to be a marigold and pass out gold chocolate coins, and my husband’s going to be a squash.

My kids are going to be:

Counting down the days!!
Ricki says:
When I was 10 years old, eons ago, cigarettes were still a big part of our culture, still advertised on TV, still allowed in restaurants, etc. Both my parents smoked, and the house was always hazy from second-hand smoke. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? So one of the more popular cigarrette brands was called Tareyton, and they had a commercial on TV that got everyone’s attention. They showed people in everyday situations but each actor had a black eye. The logo was: “Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch!” So my dear mother, may she rest in peace, came up with her idea of a great costume for me. She made me a box to wear that looked like a pack of Tareyton cigarrettes, and I carried a long thin cigarrette holder (no cig in it, thank goodness!) and I had a black eye. It was the talk of the neighborhood. I’m not telling what year this was – for those of you who care, google it! LOL…
Kara says:
My sister and her fiance are dressing up like Wendy and Peter Pan and are dressing my daughter up as Tinkerbelle.

Mandy says:
My oldest son, who is 4 is going to be a brown puppy! The jumper he is wearing was sewn by my mom when *I* was four. It was a rabbit costume then. But a different set of ears and some sewn on spots- we have a puppy!

Page says:
In 6th grade I watched Madonna’s “Dress You Up” video as many times as I could (meaning I sat in front of MTV until it came on, as we had no VCR) and tried hard to figure out a costume that would even be close, since Mom still bought my clothes and I had NO say. I ended up in a white sweatshirt that i cut off, flashdance style, with one of my dad’s jackets over a pair of HOT PINK STIRRUP PANTs because capris were never gonna happen. I teased my hair a mile high with Aqua Rock and smoked a piece of chalk, which I kept dangling from my lace-clad hands. And yes, I WAS BOMB.
Caitlin says:
I went as Bette Midler’s character, Winnifred, from the movie “Hocus Pocus.” I had a huge red wig, a fierce green velvet dress, A CAPE, and two friends to be my sister witches. Also, red lipstick and lots of yelling for my “Boooooooook.” It’s one of my favorite Halloween memories.

My senior year in high school I was a Hershey’s Kiss (along with some of my friends). Why was this so great? Well, a) we were super cute in pictures and b) we were stuffed with newspaper and didn’t fit in desks so basically spent the whole day “skipping” classes even though we were on campus.
Oh to be young again!
Alissa says:
I went one year as a lamp- stuck a lampshade on the head, bought some tap on lights to stick underneath, wore a beaded dress=Golden.
I live on a farm now right next to Scottsdale, AZ and am thinking of going this year as a farmer- put the goat on a leash, grab a chicken, and walk around the uppity areas. All I need to do is grab a child so I don’t look totally bizarre going around by my 24-year-old self.
Emma says:
My 10 month old is gonna be a parrot, my 2.5 year old is gonna be a monarch butterfly and my 6 year old is gonna be a firefighter!! I love dressing them up because I didn’t really get to as a child!
Angela says:
Harry Potter at our house this year.
Bon says:
Our lil’ 2 month old will be a lion. He is a leo after all. Although, this is the year of the Tiger… don’t worry, he’s got that costume, too.
Kellie says:
I can’t believe I’m going to tell this, but I want that printer. LOL
Back in 1988, when we still had good hairspray – and more importantly, a reason to use it – my friends and I had planned on having a Halloween party. We’d been planning this party for months – I could hardly wait. Then, another of my friends ended up in a *situation* that required a church and a fast name change and she asked me to be in the wedding party. The date of the wedding was the same date as the Halloween party. There are many reasons not to be in a wedding, however I just couldn’t say no because I wanted to dress up and drink lots and lots of liquor out of a witches cauldron. So I resigned myself that I wasn’t going to the party, and threw myself into the wedding prep hoping to forget about the awesome party I was going to miss.
I had the absolutely BEST costume ever … I was to go as a condom. See, I told you – best. costume. ever. Finally the big day arrived and the wedding was perfect (even though the marriage only lasted 7 months) and my date and I resigned ourselves that we were stuck going to the reception. Since I was IN the wedding party, I really had no choice. Something that never occurred to me though – with the bride in a “fragile state”, the reception was over much earlier than anticipated, and it just so happened that I had my condom and a change of clothes in the car. (GREAT planning) So off to the much anticipated party we went, however – one problem – I needed to get into my condom and out of the stupid fluffy pink brides made dress. At this point in my life, I was fairly used to clothing changes in a car – however, the condom required me to be standing. So I thought, no problem – I’ll change into my costume when we get there. It was dark, the middle of the night, cars everywhere and everyone was inside drinking so I stood behind the car, unzipped the dress and stepped out of it and suddenly I was blinded by an intense white light. (Oh yeah – I forgot to mention I didn’t wear a bra because the dress had one sewn in.) I couldn’t see anything, I was completely disoriented and completely naked with the exception of the tiny little panties I was wearing that wouldn’t make it past my knees now. As I stood there like a deer in the headlights, Mr. Officer said – “Freeze, Don’t Move”. The police were there to bust the party for a noise violation and they were sitting in their car about to go in when I showed up and gave them my first and only strip tease. I never got to wear my condom and I got a $200.00 ticket for indecent exposure. The party was busted and I had to do the walk of shame back into my parents house and explain to my father, an elected city official, why my name was going to appear on the police blotter. Ugh.
My condom was awesome! I wore a hard hat on my head and made the condom out of a dry cleaning bag. The bag was a very light flesh color and I split open the side and cut the bag to make it narrower, sealed the side again with one of those electric food bag sealers (brilliant, I know) and then cut the corners off the bag so the top was tapered – sealed the corners and then carefully rolled the bottom of the bag so it resembled the rolling end of the condom. I but the bag over the hat to make *the head* and then rolled the condom down my body. Normally I never condone wearing a plastic bag over your head, but I was very careful and had eye holes and a hole for straw so I could drink! Priorities!
It would have been SO cool. *sigh*
Pam L. says:
I was the Pink Panther – and made the costume! I had a great time. No one knew who I was – until I took the head off. Such fun! The kids in class loved it…and I was the teacher!
leslie says:
My girls are:
a 60’s pink lady
a peacock
a strawberry
I am Pippi Longstocking.
Alison says:
Ha! I love that printer commercial!! (I mean, the printer is probably great, too….but it can’t really compete with traffic-dodging baby.)
So, favorite costume, you say? Well. One year, when I was about, oh, half-past the age of brat-tastic, but not quite old enough to say that I didn’t want to dress up for Halloween, I demanded that my parents make me a costume. BY HAND. NO STORE BOUGHTS. So, my father went to work on it for WEEKS. And do you know what he made his bratty, whiny, ungrateful daughter? (Background: this was during the Cola Wars, when everything was all about your brand of caffeinated nirvana).
He made me an honest to God, costume sized full- metal Pepsi can. It had perfect labelling and logos and a no-kidding pop-top. (It helped that he owned a metal shop.) I was the coolest can on the block, and my dad was my hero, yet again.
Cassie says:
My favorite costume from when I was little was a Grinch costume my mom made me. I have no idea why I wanted to be the Grinch but it was awesome. And I got to paint my whole face green, which was a total bonus lol My 2 year old boy is going as a dinosaur (if I get his costume made in time!) and my 3 month old will be a Hershey’s kiss
beth goldstein says:

Anyways…. my oldest (9) is going as Dumbledore. Her sister (7) is a fairy princess, and the boy (5) is Buzz Lightyear.

My son will be a shark, and mom and dad will be scuba divers! Watch out, he bites
Sue Roberts says:
Both of my daughters (now 2.5 & 5.5) were dressed as baby rockers for their second Halloweens. Busted out my old buttons from jr. high (a little retro Motley Crew/Poison)–also dyed their hair, temp tattoos. Basically just made some great photos for their wedding slide show, or whatever they will be doing with photos in 20 years! My neighbors didn’t quite know what to say.
Abbie says:
My almost 18 month old is going to be a cow for Halloween this year. We were walking past the costumes at the store when I asked her what she wanted to be. She saw the cow and said “moo” so I got it for her!
Amy says:
I was an elephant – complete with the pillows stuffed up under a gray sweatsuit.

We were all set with Indian Jones and the cutest scarecrow. Then my 3 year old decided instead to be a dog and then my 5 year old heard about a costume change so off they went shopping with Grandma and Grandpa. Now we have 2 firemen. THis afternoon a neighbor gave them two firefighter back packs that are really water pump-guns. They had the best time playing with them. Who needs candy?? Besides me of course!
Laura says:
Honestly, I can’t remember a single Halloween outfit from my childhood. I remember seeing pictures of me as a clown when I was about 4. I think my parent’s didn’t make a big deal out of Halloween; we just scrounged around the house for stuff.
Maybe that’s why I let my kids be whatever they choose! (Even if it is stereotypical). My 7 -year-old boy is going as a Clone Trooper, and my 4-year-old daughter is going to be a mermaid.
Becki says:
My son (4) is a big glass of milk and my two daughters (1 year and 2 months) are going as chocolate chip cookies!

jacky says:
My favorite costume was when I was pregnant and went as a big orange pumpkin. HAha. I really did!!
Callie A says:
My favorite has to be when I dressed up as tinkerbell as she was (and still is my favorite) disney character. And me and my mom made my shoes which I was so proud of.

Becky says:
My favorite Halloween costume is Raggedy Ann! I work with kids so it is totally not scary but so much fun. I recently found Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls so I’ll find a way to attach them this year. I’ve found some books too so the kids have a clue! Great experience. Becky

My 2 year-old daughter is going to be a cowgirl, and my 2 month-old son is going to be a cow.
Theresa says:
Sadly I grew up in a NO HALLOWEEN home. It was the mid 70s early 80s and my mother was convinced it was the devil’s holiday. In my high school years I was allowed to attend a church youth group biblical character costume party on that evil day. I chose Mary Magdalene. I can’t believe she let me go out like that!
Melissa Dix says:
My little guy is going to be a dragon…though he is telling everyone he is going to be a dinosaur. (Wait, dragons have wings right? Maybe he’s right and I’m wrong!)
My favorite Halloween costume of my own was a lion costume my Mom made for me when I was five. It was made with brown paper bags, yarn & construction paper and I was SO PROUD. The pictures still warm my heart.
Thanks for the contest Heather! Looks like a great printer…and if I win it will go straight to my Mom…or ‘Nama as she is known now…

My favorite costume as a little girl was when was the Statue of Liberty.
This year my boys (2 and 4) are going to be super heroes…Super Aidan and Super Connor. Grandma made their costumes.
Juanita says:
Not sure if we are going trick or treating. I have 3 kids and it would be at least $45 for costumes. I can buy a bag of candy and they would be happy. I dont have a job so of course money is tighter.
When I was growing up I think my favorite was when my bf and I dressed up as cheerleaders. The clothes we had back in the day were outrageous and it was freezing cold out.
Jo Chu says:
My favorite costume was a result of laziness. In 1996 I recycled my costume from the previous year and wore a set of plastic fangs. I went as a vampire genie.
Jennifer Fetterman says:
I was raggedy ann, geisha girl, cat and strawberry shortcake cheerleader… but by far, I think my favorite costume had to be the punk rock girl I was in sixth grade. Pink hair, dangling earrings, lots of makeup and a girls just wanna have fun T-shirt!!! I can say that I did not want to wear that costume just once. I wanted to wear it EVERY DAY!
As for Anne… I think the skunk costume I saw at Pottery Barn would be awesome. However, if you’re set on making a costume up yourself, a fall fairy (leaf costume) would be cute, too!!!
My girls (ages 2 and 3) don’t stray far from the princess bandwagon, though they talk a good game: mermaid, cupcakes and monkey were all early suggestions. Turns out… Aley will be a butterfly “princess” and Lizzie will be a fairy princess. And I see this princess theme continuing far into the future. B-O-R-I-N-G!!
InDueTime says:
My best, by far, so far, was when I dressed up a spider, and I made A a pillow case dress that looked like a can of Raid.
Worst of all? I don’t have pictures of us because I injured myself the night before halloween and I was too wobbly on cruches and a 1.5 year old.
Emily Crossett says:
My boys are both being firemen because one wanted to be a fire truck and the other a fire hat (he is 2) and I am not entirely sure how one makes a fire hat costume, so fireman it is! The baby is being a cute pink kitten!
Amy says:
My oldest is going as a vampire queen & my youngest isn’t sure what to call what she’s going as, lol… her costume has wings, a pink turtle neck, a fancy skirt & black & hot pink stripped tights! lol She calls herself a butterfly ballerina! lol
Michelle says:
My daughter picked out a supergirl costume today and my son is going to be a lion!
Jodi says:
Wow – what a great printer! I have 4 yr old boys – one is going as a Fireman and the other as a Swat Team member. They are really cute costumes! Love your pictures!
Chris says:
Raggedy Anne! Makeup was simple, red mop wig, and then the usual Raggedy Anne clothing – I think this would be good for your Annie, too.
Andrea says:
This year is our first family halloween and my fiance and I are going as Zoey and Bill from Left 4 Dead, and our son is going to be the garden gnome you carry during a level in the second game for an achievement. Nerd family needs a printer!
Heidi says:
Fist off- wow! what a giveaway!!
My little baby girl is 8 months old. I got the good old spider costume and modified it so that it wraps all the way around the Bjorn. So I can carry her and still see her costume My other two are going to be Snow White and Wolverine.
Susan says:
when i was about 3, i dressed up as princess ruby red, my mom and i made a fancy crown out of cardboard and i wore my spiffy red PJs.
my other favorite was when i was garfield. i had a nightshirt with him on it and my mom did a great job with the makeup and i carried my favorite garfield stuffed animal. i won a contest with that one:)
erin lutz says:
My girls are going as a witch and a punk rocker. Better than the dead cheerleader she wanted to be!
Kelly says:
My oldest daughter is going to be a vampire this year and the youngest is going to be a snow princess. They love Annie’s video about her costume! They have been singing the song all weekend
Reg says:
My favorite costume would have to be back when I was 5. I was a California Raisin along with my sister. The pictures from back then are so cute!
My niece is going to dress up as a Medieval Princess. She’s a girly girl so that’s what she decided on.
ineia antunes says:
hi heathers,
i loved it when all the female nurses at the clinic I worked dressed up as m&ms and the male doc was a box of peanuts m&M!!!
Sher says:
Catwoman is in the HOOOUUUSSSEEE!! (The Michelle Pfeiffer version) My 9 year old is rocking the jumpsuit (and it will keep her warm).
Husband will be Michael Myers or Jason…who knows but the orange correctional jumpsuit looks hot.
I’ll just be Postmenopausal woman.
Lisa Welsh says:
My 2-year old will be a dinosaur this Halloween. He’s old enough now where he’s aware that he’s wearing a costume and is pretty excited about it. He wore the same costume last year, but I think he just thought it was everyday clothes.
Kim says:
I absolutely love reading, so naturally my best costumes were inspired by characters from some of my favorite books. Two of these were Charlie Bucket and Pippi Longstocking.
I have two little boys, ages 3 and 1. The oldest is excited that “I gonna be horsie”, while his brother is going to be an adorable little monster.
Melissa says:
I know whatever Annie goes as, she’ll be adorable and creative! Seriously, you guys are awesome at Halloween!
My favorite costume was probably when I was in my very early twenties. I went as a character from the video game Final Fantasy VII (Tifa, in case you know the game). All my nerd friends loved it!
Shannon says:
My 5 and 10 yr. old boys are going to be Mario and Luigi. After some heavy campaigning, they convinced their 3 yr. old sister to be Yoshi and 11yr. old sister to be Princess Peach. Now they are working on trying to convince my husband to be Bowser!
They are super excited to be seen as a group in their costumes . . .would love to print some beautiful photos of them . . . .
Aisha says:
A monkey. He’s only five months old but he will be a monkey
Heather says:
My kids are going as a fire fighter and the cutest witch you ever did see.
Amanda says:
My lil Zoe is going to be a “blue” fairy princess. It was imperative that she be a blue one apparently, so I searched high and low and found the perfect outfit, and accessories (I mean come on.. you gotta have the right crown!)
I will be painting my face and since I’m her mother I will be the fairy queen. (if she’s the princess.. i’m so totally the queen) lol!
Melissa Schick says:
There are 418 comments above me… That’s my lucky number and birthday! My favorite Halloween costume ever was one year when my mom dressed me up as, and get this, my grandmother. And no, this is not a joke. Gray wig, purple sweater with pearls, black pants and orthopedic black velcro shoes. She even gave me glasses and popped the lenses out. When we went to my grandmothers to “trick or treat”, I thought my grandma was going to have a heart attack she was laughing so hard. Needless to say, it was better then my costume the next year… My grandpa. I am a photographer and this printer would save me a TON of money on prints. Great giveaway, and fun idea!
Elaina Caldwell says:
I was the egg and my bf was the bacon…what was I thinking???
Ash says:
So last year while I was pregnant I was in cosmetology school I dressed up as Juno. Found a bunch of mismatching clothes from my closet. A shirt that was a little short with belly so it hung out a bit, a skirt to go over my jeans, a plaid sweatshirt, some converse and a scarf, threw it all on and voila! I was Juno! Oh and of course can’t forget the large blue slushie I had as well!
Meredith says:
my 10 year old girl is going as a punk rocker. Super punk and Super cute! My little guy is going as Batman. He wanted to be something scary, but you can’t wear scary costumes to school.
Antonia Aruffo says:
Annie should *totally* be a gloworm!!
As far as best costume? When I was in 5th grade we were REALLY struggling for cash, my mom lost her job due to her being an awesome human being and standing up for what she believed in…long story, but she found enough time/money to make me a jester costume that was totally reversable. Half was red/white polka dots and the other half was white/red polka dots. She made matching pants and everything. Best gift by far because I knew it came from the heart and I got to help her make it. I will always treasure that more than anything else.
Annie Y says:
My favorite Halloween was my youngest 1st in 2008 when he dressed up as a duck!
Paige says:
My favorite as a kid was a pile of leaves and my foster son is going to one party as a devil and another as freddy.
jenny says:
My favorite costume was Pippi Longstocking. I had hair down to my waist, a wire hanger through my braids both sticking out 2 feet on each side. I was 13 and was aloud to go to my first community boy/girl dance. Um. Not such a good idea. I was poking everyone, could barely get through the crowded room, and DEFINITELY didn’t get asked to dance! All the other girls were dressed up as slutty witches or maids or pumpkins. DISASTER.
So it wasn’t the right costume for THAT environment, but MAN I worked hard and loved that costume.
My girls are going to be Annie and June from Little Einsteins, and my 10 month old will ride in the radio flyer as Rocket. The girls decided and that was THAT!
I said, Lily, will anyone even know who you are? She said (she’s 6), “Uh, mama, it’s just for fun.” Oh. Yeah. #outtathemouthsofbabes
Violet says:
Oohhh! Would love it. That commercial is pretty awesome :)! My nieces are going to be a lady bug (hand me down costume from her big sister) and a butterfly fairy… hand made by me and my friend/coworker! So excited to see how their costumes come out. I’m still debating on dressing up or not. But if I do, I think I will get my craft on and create some sort of hippie fairy with some of my tye dye creations…lol.
jessica b says:
my son is almost 14 years old. he wasn’t going to dress up this year… but then the school decided that they were having a Halloween dance and so he wants to dress up now. We went looking for costumes tonight. He wants to be something scary. Sadly, we did find a couple of great costumes but at $60 a pop, i just can’t afford that. I feel really bad because he may not have a costume this year. the interest came too close to the date and so I don’t have time to make something. I don’t know what to do.
i’ve been trying to take pictures of everything we do because, as he gets older, i’ve come to realize that his childhood is fading fast. I want to make sure that I have photos of everything!! I’d love this printer to be able to share the photos and frame them!
Jules says:
Yo Gabba Gabba rules in our house. Let’s just say DJ Lance Rock better watch his back! Happy 1st Halloween Annie!!!
MegLOVEStombrady says:
Oh goodness…I will have to go back all the way to Kindergarten for my favorite Halloween costume(I don’t have any kids yet). I was a cheerleader. My mom was great because she didn’t let me go in any cheap cheerleader costume from the Halloween store, she got me this adorable costume from a boutique/craft shop. If I remember correctly it was made of red felt, and it had a yellow or white letter on the front. And because it was 1994, my mom made these adorable socks to match. They had pom poms! Oh my gah. I was stylin!
Julie Nielson says:
I dressed up as Pocahontas in 2nd grade. I loved it because it was my first and only store-bought costume (all the ones before and since have been homemade). Except for the wig. my mom and I made it out of black yarn. I loved it because I loved Pocahontas. Even though now I realize how silly I must have looked (yarn-mop looking wig, plus thefact that I am a natural redhead and therefore, I have unnaturally blinding White skin), it was and is still my favorite. And even though I looked silly, my mommasaid I looked wonderful because I was so happy, and that’s what counted.
Dana C. says:
The printer looks awesome! This year my six year old daughter picked out matching costumes for her and I to wear. We are going as Incantasia, she is so excited that we are going to match, I just worry that my butt won’t fit into the costume, so I’m crash dieting! Thanks for this awesome chance to win and I’m sure that whatever Annie is for Halloween, she will be the cutesy little pumpkin out there !
Rebecca says:
My oldest son will be Luke Skywalker and my little guy is going to be a knight in shining armor. Thanks!
Kathi says:
I’m so sad that my kids are almost all too old to dress up anymore, I love Halloween! Only one left – my 8-year-old is going as a ninja this year.
Tiffany Christie says:
My kids are going to be a witch and Luigi ….Tiffypoot @ (aol.com)

My favorite costume – Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, circa 1972 – my aunt sewed up the costume and it was warm and balmy in NY that Halloween so I actually got to show off that costume.
Tracey says:
My little one will be rocking as Princess Leah this year complete with her own little buns. In case they run into any ghosts, big brother will be dressed as a ghostbuster ready to zap away! Although I really hope we don’t run into a giant marshmallow!
TwinMomJulie says:
I have 7 year-old twin boys. One will be a prisoner and the other will be soccer player David Beckham. Both will be sporting full tattoo sleeves! I’m so proud!
guarros says:
Oooh. Well I’m going to give you all the answers – this year my daughter is going to be Tinkerbell – complete with homemade costume purchased off of etsy- so it has the unmatched look of homemade but I didn’t have to botch it up in production. This comes complete with me as Wendy, my husband as Peter Pan (it’s hard to find green tights that will fit a man – FYI so we’re going with green thigh highs- he’s thrilled, as you can imagine) and the dog is going to be Nana, complete with “Puritan Bonnet.” Holiday cards this year are going to be priceless.
Favorite costume ever? Our first Halloween together, married – my husband & I went as the Olsen twins. Nothing says love like a man who will dress up like Mary Kate, despite kind of looking like a a Russian woman who had some work done. Beer in a starbuck cups? Fantastic. Explaining to the Barista why we needed them with OUT coffee inside? Not easy.
Lisa S. says:
My 2-year-old daughter will be a pirate, and my 9-month-old daughter will be a bumble bee.
Marlena says:
My son is going as Robin…as in, Batman and Robin! I’m still trying to convince the hubs to take on the role of Batman for the evening!
Patrice Mosby says:
Loved the year my mom made me an angel costume, complete with gold halo. Thought for sure I would win the big contest at school. Didn’t even make the top 10! A total ripoff as the “popular” Monica Downey won again!
Kendra says:
My favorite costume was when I was five. I was minnie mouse and my mom made my costume. She even made a matching custume for my doll.

I have one daughter going as Pennywise the Clown from IT by Stephen King. (EEEKKK!!) One who is going as a ROCK STAR complete with blue hair, and, of course, my young NINJA boy! HiYA!
toni bautista says:
My 2year old is deathly afraid of anything halloween. To get her “in the mood” we coaxed her into being SuperGirl because SuperGirl gets tons of chocolate. We’ll see how it goes on Halloween day!
Tara says:
My oldest girl is going as a “mohawk cheerleader”. She’s 11, eleven-year-olds are a little odd My little one (5) will be Spider Man, Iron Man, or Snow White. She is still deciding.

My favorite costume as a child was a punk rocker. I think it was because of all the accessories I got to wear and bright funky make up and hair. My mom always bought some sort of spray color for my hair and neon colored eye shadows. I LOVED it!
Melissa says:
My favorite costume as a child was when I wore the clown costume my mom made me. So cute! I can’t wait until my daughter can wear it.
Loren Bell says:
When I was in sixth grade I went as Mimi from “The Drew Carey Show.” It was amazing. I stuffed a gaudy romper that my mom had left over from the eighties, curly wig, blue eye shadow, lots of jewelry. It. was. HOT!!!!
Erica says:
My senior year of high school a group of my friends and I went as valley girls. We put our preppiest clothes on with cutesy accessories and made our best attempt to turn our southern accents into exagerated west coast surfer ones. GNARLLY YA’LL!
Now that I have four children under the age of 9 I get all these inspired ideas of themed costumes and this year I really wanted to have my son dress as James Dean and the three girls in full poodle skirt regalia. There was a massive uprising within the troops though (I blame the two year old) so now we will be schlepping a bumble bee, lady bug, fairy, and Indiana Jones door to door to beg for all the candy they can get their greedy little hands on. Happy Halloween Ya’ll
Kim Q says:
My favorite costume when I was young was a Strawberry Shortcake costume. It was one of those old school costumes that was made of something resembling a plastic sheet and a face mask in the likeness of Ms. Shortcake. Nowadays, I believe those costumes have been outlawed. FLAMMABLE- AHH! MASKS- AHH!
My favorite costume that my daughter has worn was a little pirate costume. Too adorable for words- and no plastic sheets or face masks. WHAT???
Melanie says:
I was eight and I was a princess. I’m not close to being a princessy grown-up, so that’s pretty funny to me now.
Beth says:
I always said I was going to dress up as the invisible woman for work on Halloween, of that means I don’t show up but I never did. I would have to say that my favorite costume I had growing up was a hobo. My mother use to try to get me to dress up as a princess or anything girlie, but I was a big time tom boy.

Trish says:
My 1 year old is a skeleton, and my 3 year old is Cinderella.
Kerri says:
We don’t do Halloween anymore for two reasons:
1) My son dresses up regularly, in a bathrobe over a snuggie, as Obi Wan Kenobi. Lightsaber and all. He’s ten, and has always dressed up regularly. (We have superhero, video game hero, and star wars tees all up in this house.)
2) He is mister personality, and wants to chat with EVERYONE he meets. Trick or treating with him is not a treat for socially awkward mom, who gets nervous when he starts “campaigning.” (He has done this his whole life, before he could talk he would walk up to people and jabber on very pointedly. I would tell them he was running for President. This is why I refer to it as campaigning.)
So, no Halloween costumes, but Obi Wan every day after school.
Kristin says:
Since I have no idea what I ever dressed up as when I was a kid (I must be getting old!), I’ll tell you what the kids are going as this year: Meg will be some sort of fairy, complete with pink and purple wig, Drew is Darth Vader, Annie is going as Abby Cadabby (again, but wearing her Snow White costume to her school party because girlfriend can’t make up her mind) and Izzie is going as Tinkerbell.
Shelly says:
My 3 and 1/2 yr old, Noah, will be trick-or-treating as Mario from Super Mario Bros. since he likes to sometimes play that game with his daddy on the Wii. His cousins will be Luigi and Princess Peach-too cute! Growing up, my favorite costume was a Pepsi can that I made myself out of cardboard and paint when I was 9, I copied every detail of a real can, including all the lines and numbers on the barcode!
Missy says:
My son is going as Jango Fett from Star Wars and my daughter is going to be Alice in Wonderland, complete with a little white rabbit to carry with her! It’s adorable!! This printer looks AMAZING!!! When we got our new computer eralier this year I was very dismayed to find out that my current printer is not window’s 7 compatable, so I have not been able to print anything for about 8 months! And I always used to print my pictures at home as well!
Robyn says:
My 10 year old daughter is going to be the ghost of Queen Elizabeth I. My 9 year old daughter is going to be Lady Gaga as a Vampire.
They’re both going to be adorable! I can’t wait to see which costume Annie chooses.
Kellie says:
The best costume I ever had would have to be the year that my Mom and I didn’t have a lot of money and she made me into a present. That’s right, a box wrapped in paper! It worked and we had the best time working together to make it.
Kelly says:
Awesome giveaway!
On Halloween, I’ll be a week from my due date…if I haven’t had the baby I’d love to be a jar of Prego pasta sauce with my husband as the plate of spaghetti!

sandy says:
How about my new (4 weeks old!) granddaughter? She is going to be a skeleton. Which may sound odd for one so young, but her mother is a mortician! So it definitely fits. I can’t wait to see the cutie.
Editdebs says:
My mom made me an amazing Morticia Addams costume when I was in fourth grade. She used an old black dress, added spiderweb scarves, and a black wig. It was the best costume ever. My mom’s homemade costumes were the best!
Blue Jay says:
When I was seven and my sister was five, my mother made us matching ladybug costumes. The best part was the headbands with antennas attached.
Happy Halloween!

Diane says:
My favorite costume was a ladybug. This year my costume is taken care of- 8 months pregnant with twins and too big for much else!
Rach says:
Ooohhhh… nifty. So, instead of just keeping all my kids’ pictures on my computer I could actually print them out and make an album, or sumpin’??
My daughter is going as a cheeleader, which I am conflicted about, but hey! it’s her four year old life. My son is going as Super Mario in penguin mode, and if you have any idea what I am talking about, you play too much Wii.
Lori says:
My daughter is going as Jessie from Toy Story. I made the costume as (and I hate to say never) but I would never buy a pre-made costume. She looks adorable!

Becky says:
When I was little my mom made me a Rainbow Bright costume. It was my best costume!

Michelle says:
As a kid, I can remember going as a Kooky Spook. It was one of those eighties store bought costumes where you wore an inflatable beach ball like thing on your head and on it was some crazy looking cross-eyed creature. Ah…those were the days. This year I plan on dressing up my 2 year old daughter as a cowgirl and my 4 month old son as the cow. Hopefully it will work out! Happy Halloween!!
Shan says:
This year my little is going to be a skunk. The costume is pretty cute!
Rachel says:
My mom always made our costumes out of things from around the house (1st halloween as an indian princess from a pillowcase, 2nd as a clown from doll clothes…you get the point). I got away with doing the same up until this year (last year 3 yo son was a fireman and 1 yo daughter his dalmation- I decorated their red wagon to look like a firetruck and pulled them around to plenty of fanfare )
Now, at only 2 and 4, they already think my homemade ideas are lame, but they do LOVE to look at the catalogues that come in the mail and were both circling costumes they wanted back in Sept
While I won’t be winning any awards for creativity this year- they are both very excited- 4 yo son and the dog are going as batmen and 2 yo daughter as Minnie Mouse!
Sara Waltz says:
My favorite Halloween costume was my husband’s costume last year . . . he went as the Headless Horseman and he made his costume on his own – he looked great!
This year, my 11 year wanted to be a leprachaun, but I couldn’t find a costume. Instead, he’s going as a skeleton. My 7 year old is going to be Darth Vader.
Johanna says:
I figure skated as a kid, so we always had a plethora of costumes (from character solos) to choose from for Halloween. One of my favorite costumes would have to be Elvis… Blue suede shoes, blue lounge style blazer and a light up bowtie! And of course a fake guitar.

Megan Beach says:
My best costume ever was when I was Pee Wee Herman. I had short hair back then and I really looked like Pee Wee. It was kinda awesome.
Kerry says:
My little one is away at his first year of college(!!!), so I’m sure he’s going to be something completely ridiculous and possibly inappropriate, and I hope there are photos. My favorite costume of his was the year he was 8 and decided he wanted to be Norm Abram from This Old House/The New Yankee Workshop. He wore a borrowed flannel shirt, an old pair of his grandfather’s glasses (frames only), and a pair of safety goggles around his neck. He was really cute, but a lot of people didn’t know what to make of it, especially when he went into his shop safety spiel. Man, I miss that weird little kid.
Allison says:
Growing up my mom made crayon costumes for my siblings and I it was a lot of fun, but we did fight over who got to be what color!
Great contest!

I am 4 months pregnant this year so I have one an apron with a picture of a oven stapled to it with a ultrasound pic of my baby girl on it. I also have on a chef’s hat. So i have a bun in the oven. My kids are going as SuperMan and SuperGirl.
Haley says:
This year I was Tinkerbell once, and this weekend I’m going to be an eskimo! I don’t have kids, but my neice is going to be Princess Peacock from Gymboree, which I picked out for her!
Love this printer, Ahhhh-mazing!
Lorie says:
My daughter is going as Alice in Wonderland this year…
AnnD says:
My daughter is going to be a tiger this year (her lovey is a tiger, so she wanted to go as Terrance the Tiger). It’s our son’s first Halloween and we haven’t tried on the costume yet (hoping it fits but we do have back-up’s) but he’s going as a monkey because his favorite blankie has a monkey on it and there will be a monkey on his birthday cake in November.
Amber Petz says:
My 6 year old son is going as Jesus thie year. And he is the cutest thing ever. I first I was really hesitant, there are so many judgers out there, but once I heard his reasoning I was sold. People can judge away. He said he really loves Jesus and Jesus helps him stay out of trouble when he really wants to so something bad. Like hammer a hundred nails into the swing set. And finally he said I think he just a cool guy, I like how he built stuff without nails. To me his heart is so pure and loving, I think its the best costume yet. PS. I just lost all the pics of my kids form the last five years, because of a freak computer melt down. (yes, I know back-up..but I never thought it would happen to me. ) and I really could this printer to actually have hard copies.
Amy P says:
My kids are going as a racecar driver and a lion. Last year they were really cute and dressed up as Max and a wild thing from Where the Wild Things Are. They were really cute!
Tiffany Reynolds says:
My three year old son is going to be a skeleton. I wanted him to be this cute little monster but the husband thought it was too cutesy. My 5 year old daughter is going to be a spider princess. She picks her own costumes. My favorite costume when I was little was a bunny, but my mom put lipstick on me and fake eyelashes and all the boys in the neighborhood called me hooker bunny.
Mary says:
This year I am going as our cat and our son is going as a policeman. My favorite costume ever was from when I was in 3rd grade…I went as a Hershey’s kiss that we made out of tin foil!
Kate C. says:
It’s my son’s first halloween, and he’s going to be dressed up as a green dragon. He won’t be going trick-or-treating (yet), so he’ll help me pass out candy!
Laura says:
This is probably slightly sadistic…but our 2-year-old daughter is going to be William Wallace, a la Braveheart.
We’ve got the plaid fabric, faux leather for a DIY vest, faux fur vest, and the blue face paint. It was my husband’s idea and we are SO.SUPER.PSYCHED. I figure this is our last year before she gets opinionated and wants to choose her own costume.
Adrianne says:
Oh, I hope it’s not too late to enter this one because that printer looks AWESOME!!!
I have no kids, so I guess I have to tell you about my costume. I think my best yet will actually be this year as…..wait for it…..
A Tea Party member!! Complete with ridiculous signs boasting misspelled words and plenty of buzz words like FREEDOM! and GUNS! and SOCIALISM! It’s going to be legendary!
Mary says:
For Annie, since she was at the pumpkin patch — the obvious….no, not a simple pumpkin, but pumpkin pie!
Our daughter is tiny so we are thinking of both reusing her costume from last year (Winnie the Pooh) and using the one from this year, a pumpkin. But somehow my husband isn’t cool with having one of us take her in one costume and then switching her into another one and going around again. Something about being honest and not getting too much candy. Party pooper.
Lisa Garcia says:
My almost 3 year old daughter Ava is going to be a black and bright pink witch this year. Not sure if she will wear the hat, but we will see. I also got a witch hat so I can fit in.
Pat says:
I have 4 grandchildres..one is a princess (go figure! she’s 3), one is a knight with a SWORD (most important part of the costume, also 3) another is a go-go girl with hot pink hair and go-go boots (grown out of the princess stage as she is 6!) and my last guy is something scarey handing out candy (staying around home so his sister can trick or treat!)
Managed Chaos says:
My little girl (8) is going as a girly Sherlock Holmes detective (think pink plaid cape with feathers)
Kristian T. says:
I have 2 boys, the 10yr old is going to be a ghostbuster, which is great as there is no scary mask to scare his 2yr old brother who is going to be the cutest little blue monster which is funny because he thinks he scares his 10yr old brother.
Jenn says:
When I was a little kid my mom dressed me in the best costume. It was a handmade hand-me-down from my cousin. I was half boy/half girl. I thought I was really cool because I had a pair of boy shoes and a pair of girl shoes, so I wore one shoe from each pair to match the costume.
Also, I think Annie should be an Oompa Loompa for Halloween. I want to see her with green hair.
Allison M. says:
THIS PRINTER LOOKS AMAZING!!!
My family never really got into Halloween when I was younger. I can only remember being a witch and a princess. (not very creative)
Living in Missouri we cannot get very creative…by the time Halloween rolls around it is COLD to say the least. My son only being 2 and not hitting the streets for candy (just the local church festival), he is going to be a giraffe. It is a warm snuggly costume that is sure to not make him sick from the cold
**crossing my fingers for extra luck on this contest!!!**
Lisa Winterstein says:
My most memorable Halloween costume was when my mother dressed me up as Aunt Jemima (if you’re not familiar, just google it). 40 years ago, there weren’t costume stores so you went around the house and made a costume out of what you had on hand. I was in 1st grade and she sent me to school in a huge dress with pillows in front and in back supported by her crusty old girdle to plump me up. Top that off with an apron, a “do-rag” on my head, oh yeah, and don’t forget the black face. Totally politally incorrect today. If I win, I’ll post a picture!
Heather says:
When I was younger my Mom made me into a Hi-C juice box. With a straw and everything. I am not so creative. The boy is going as either a cow, or Yoda. The girl is going to be Cinderella.
And PS. I can’t stop singing that Halloween song you put up the other day! My kids have watched it a hundred times. My daughter wants to know when Annabel is going to put out her first CD.
E says:
My favorite costume as a child was Pippi long stocking! I loved putting wires in my pigtails and drawing freckles on my face! then as an “adult” my favorite was 2 years ago- a pegasus, unicorn, vampire on roller skates. We were in the NYC parade…and we fit right in
Alicia says:
This year, my kids are: Darth Vader (my 9yo son), Ariel (BARRRFF, my 6yo daughter), a chicken (my 3yo son), and nothin’ (my 1yo… he’ll know about Halloween soon enough… I’ve got one more year not having to ‘stume him).

Diane says:
Owen and Jordan are going as super girl and super man. In fact, they are sitting here watching TV in their costumes. They love them. My older daughter is going as Alice (as in Wonderland… not the diner). Sad, she doesn’t even know who the other Alice is.

Jennifer says:
I have nephews who live in another state. Last year we were so thankful that Halloween fell on a Saturday so we could finally trick-or-treat with them again. These little boys are picky eaters, about all that enters their mouths is tortilla chips and queso, and chicken nuggets and ketchup.
For Halloween last year, I dressed up like a tortilla chip. My husband was a bowl of queso. My pregnant sister (who gave me nephew 3) was a chicken nugget and my mom was a bottle of ketchup.
It was fantastic and hilarious. The boys loved it. I’ll have to email you a picture of us!
Happy Halloween!
Dora says:
My girl is going to be a ballerina, because I’m a cash strapped single mom, and the costume was $10 at TJ Maxx.
Oh, yeah, I’ve been singing the Halloween song to her as well.
Melissa says:
My Mom used to make ALL my halloween costumes when I was little and my all time favorite one was when I dressed up as Simon from Alvin and the Chipmunks. I had the biggest crush on him when I was 4!! I had the glasses, the big blue shirt with the “S” on it everything. It was a halloween I’ll never forget.

Margaret says:
I once dressed up as a box of M&M’s. Aside from being my favorite candy its also my initials. Another year I dressed up as a book which was about my friends and I in fifth grad. All I ever did when I was that age was read so it was a pretty funny costume for people who knew me.
Lori says:
My girls are going as Bell from Beauty and the Beast and Tinkerbell.
I love this time of year too!!
Donna says:
As a kid, I think I went as a gypsy every year – except when I went as a baseball umpire – my father was an high school baseball umpire – and he dressed me up in his too-big, smelly equipment – not one of my favorite Halloweens!
My girls this year are dressing up as a black cat (8 year old) and a white bunny (5 year old).
I would love this printer!!
Melissa says:
What an amazing printer! Very cool. Love your photography class postings, I took a class last year and enjoyed it but I don’t feel the instructor was very good with explaining shutter speed in relation to lighting, etc. I need to take another class…
Anyhow, I grew up in Turkey so we never really did Halloween, so I loved dressing up whenever we happened to be in the US for the holidays. I recently lost both of my paternal grandparents, who were the American side of the family and got my hands on ALL of their photos. While going through the boxes upon boxes, I found a picture of me when I was probably about 4 or 5 with one of my grandmother’s wigs on, big red, round, ROUGRE cheeks, and a black crochet shawl. Add to that a plastic pumpkin pail and you have got yourself an I-don’t-know-what, but it was a cute picture to see and a nice memory. Especially these days, when you order Halloween costumes and they are basically a competition of which parent can spend the most $. Around here, anyway.
Oh, and my 4 year old is going to be a fighter pilot. He is obsessed. The 16 month old…NO idea. I’ll probably put him in one of those skeleton once piece outfits from Old Navy.
Elizabeth says:
My favorite costume that I wore was my carebear costume. I only remember it from pictures but I looked like I was having fun, I was only 3 or 4. It was a plastic jumpsuit and a mask, ahh the 80’s.
Sara says:
I just found out I’m pregnant, so I’m going as a trashy pregnant lady (hot purple eyeshadow and all). Stick a ball under a dress and voila! This is how it will be announced to the family.
Could really use that printer for my art business! Crossing my fingers.
Skye says:
My favorite Halloween costume is from 2007, my senior year in college, when I dressed as a ghost who supposedly haunted my dorm. The girl supposedly burned to death while taking a bath in kerosene to cure her leprosy (she didn’t have leprosy, but went crazy) because her lantern fell in. I wore only a burned towel. (Flame-retardant towels are hard to catch on fire, btw!)
I don’t have kids, but this year I’m going in a group of 3 as zombie rollergirls!
Cynthia says:
In college, my ex-boyfriend and I dressed as Hansel and Grettell. Our costumes were awesome!
This year my daughter is going to be one of the following: Tinkerbell, a princess, or an “80’s” girl (OMG!). My son is going to be a Knight.
Sara R. says:

Lori says:
My 2 year old daughter is going to be a kitty cat. I tried it on her and she freaked out, demanding me to take it off. Uh oh!
Llyn says:
My little girls are grown now, but my favorite costume was the “Sparkly Unicorn” they were able to wear for many years. It was a purple jumpsuit with a hood that had a silver horn in the forehead, with lots of glitter and tulle and a shiny tail. I’d paint glitter stars around their eyes to complete the look, and sometimes they’d carry a magic glitter wand as well.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
Deb Hauer says:
My children are going as:
Child #1 – 14 year old boy….hanging with friends dressed as their favorite rap band
Child #2 – 12 year old girl – the Mad Hatters daughter….what is that?
Child #3 – a vampire…black cape with bright pink lining! had to add the girly touch somewhere!
giselle says:
my favorite costume as a kid was probably the little red riding hood costume my mom made me. I’m sure it was actually very simple, but i got to bring a basket with cookies to school to hand out! i think.. isn’t that what she has in the basket? i don’t remember. anyway, great memories!
Sarah says:
I think my best costume will be this year’s! My boyfriend and I are dressing up in all black, with black face masks, then we’re taking glow-sticks and taping them to our clothes. A circle around our faces, a long line from the bottom of the circle that branches out to our legs, and lines along our arms. We’re going as stick figures.

My daughter is getting too old for trick or treating. She’s almost 15! But she’s a skinny little thing, so she’s going to wear an old Girl Scout Uniform from Elementary School and be a Girl Scout for Halloween.
My son dislikes masks. He usually picks out a costume, gets it home, and then changes his mind. Which results in a frantic trip to the costume shop a few days before Halloween.
I love taking and sharing pictures. The printer looks awesome!
Rachel says:
My son is going to be Darth Vader! His costume is actually pretty realistic, but it’s slightly creepy because he’s only 5, and not quite as tall Anakin, so it’s like a Darth Vader mini-me.

My 4yr old daughter is going to be a purple fairy princess. And my almost 8 yr old son is going to be a Jedi. Annie would be an awesome Giants cheerleader (yes i know baseball soes not have cheerleaders but Annie is a trend setter) to honor daddy’s team in the 2010 World Series.
Cassie C says:
Halloween! Is fun as a little girl I was Peter Pan one year and Pippy Long Stocking – my Mom was a great costume creator and Pippy came complete with my long locks braided and wired straight out in pig-tails, how “pippy-like.”
This year I my boyfriend and I are going as Cops and Robbers. I was voting for Mary Ann and Gilligan…there is always next year

A couple of homemade favorites from growing up were a pig and a Smurf. Also for some reason when I was little I wanted to be a stop light. My mom painted a cardboard box, cut arm holes for my arms and face and painted my face red for the red light. I remember not being able to move very easily!
This year my three year old wanted me to make her a ghost so she can scare everybody! A couple of years ago I made her a super cute sock monkey!

Four Gambel Girls and a Guy - documenting the adventures we call life says:
Pick me, Pick me….it would so redeem the time I spend blogging..
The best Halloween costumes (there are soooo many and they are all homemade) are 1) When my 15 year old daughter took a roll of green felt from Hobby Lobby and made a catapillar costume that four of her friends could fit into and they all wore the same costume and looked like a big green catapillar. The problem with that was going to the bathroom….they all had to go in together and take turns while the others turned their head. 2) Then there was the time that my daughter made a walking shower by attaching a shower curtain to a hoola hoop and putting the hoop over her head and the shower curtain was pulled around so she looked like she was a walking shower. She attached a old shower nozzle with blue streams of paper (to look like water) to the hoop so it was over her head! It was embellished with all sorts of “shower props”. 3) A friend of hers also had a great one…she took a plastic storage tub, cut a hole for her body and put the tub on her body at her waist…then filled the tub with dress up clothes to the max and had them hanging over the sides..she also wore a crazy mix-matched outfit and hat on and she attached the tub by suspenders. She looked like a “dress up box”. Now that should be enough creative ideas to win……….PLEASE!!!!!!

Missy K says:
My favorite costume was when I was about 16. My friends & I dressed up as KISS. I was Paul Stanley (Star make-up). I even used that spray on hair color to color my light blonde hair black. Therein lay the problem. That stuff is SUPPOSED to wash out. Well I think I must have done something wrong cause for the life of me I could not get that stuff to wash out completely. I walked around school for over a week with black splotches in my hair. LOL!!

My all time best Halloween costume was the Pillsbury Doughboy. I had a white sweatsuit with a belly stuffed with cotton stuffing. I had a chef’s hate with a homemade Pillsbury logo. I painted my face white and around my eyes all blue. Everyone poked me all day and night for the “whoo-hoo” but it was worth it!
Jacqueline says:
When I was in 3rd grade my school had a contest, I dressed up in one of my sisters skirts, with a pillow to make a bigger butt, and balloons, for boobs. Wig and everything. Pretty funny to see a scrawny little 8 year old dressed like that. [at least we thought so] LOL
Tamara says:
My favorite costume growing up with the Queen of Hearts one my mom made me. Red Turtleneck and tights with a white pillow case over it with the heart playing cards stapled on. A sweet burger king crown covered in tin foil and fake jewels and some kind of scepter. Awesome!

Stefanie says:
I remember one year dressing up like an 80s punk rocker… although it was in the early 90s (may have even been 1990) so it wasn’t much of a costume if you think about it, lol! I did have the blonde and pink crazy hair!
Amanda says:
Oh I am 10 weeks pregnant and could really use this to send photos to grandparents and family who all live far away. My favorite Halloween costume was the first one I can remember when I was five or so – a ballerina with a purple tutu which was really funny because I lived in the mountains and had to wear moon boots and a big jacket over my costume. Thanks!

My fav costume was when Hubs and I dressed up as Neo and Trinity from the (original) Matrix (before 2 and 3 came out and got dumb). I rocked some black leather (oh to be skinny again) and we got Hubs all these water guns that we spray painted black and rigged inside a black trench coat and around his pants. He was hot. I was hot. It was rad.
Brandy says:
I love my the costumes that my daughters chose this year. One is a cupcake (totally adorable) and the other one is going to be Rapunzel with a 3 foot long wig for her hair. I would tell you what my son’s costume is, but I have no idea what it is. He picked it out at a second hand store where I was looking for a dress for the Rapunzel costume. As soon as he saw it, he went nuts and had to have it. I have asked several people if they know what it is and nobody has any clue. All I know is the tag says Marvel, but after searching the internet for an hour, I still have no idea which Marvel person it is. At least my son loves it though, that is all that matters right?
Emese says:
We went to a Halloween party on Saturday. Family costume:
Kayti, 7, was psycholocks with a hatchet in hand
Dusty, was Papa Bear with knife through his stomach,
I was Mama Bear with a slit throat
Jake, 9, was Baby Bear with a knife through his head
It was fun… oh and I made all the costumes. I will post the one and only picture ( I know shame on me) I took of the kids on my blog.

My kids are too old to trick-or-treat (I think when they’re 6 feet tall, they’re too big!), so they won’t be dressed up this year. I made all of their costumes when they were little, though. My daughter was a cute little bumble bee her first time out trick or treating and my favorite costume for my son was Godzilla.
amy d. says:
I’m going to go ahead and say that since I’ve had my dog for 8 years and my children for 2 1/2 and 10 months, respectively, that my favorite costume has been when I dressed up the dog as a lobster. SO. FUNNY.
plus, she was wicked pissed and had angry lobster face the whole time.
she’s also been spider-dog, Yoda (her name is Coda), Code-zilla, and a butterfly. to include the kids, only one has been old enough for Halloween (or born, to be exact) and she was a pea pod her first year and a duck last year. this year is pink/black fairy (big kid) and pink/black ladybug (little kid). Dog is off the hook!
Susan A says:
I am going to be a cupcake this year! It took over five hours to make, not bc it was really difficult but bc we didn’t know what the heck we were doing. It looks great and I look forward to everyone’s reaction. My three year old is going to be Superman! He looks so adorable.

It was fun to let the 2 year old twins pick this year – my little Spiderman wanted to be that from day 1 when I asked him – never waivered. My little Tigger, on the other hand, went from Thomas the Train to the ailen from Toy Story, to Tigger, to a lady bug he saw in an add…we finally decided for him on Tigger, but he loves it!!!

WOW! What a great giveaway.
This is my son’s third Halloween and my husband and I couldn’t agree on anything. I wanted to dress him as Calvin, from “Calvin & Hobbes,” but Joe was like, “That’s so 10 years ago.” Boo… so, he’s going to be a rock star instead. That’s how we’re justifying NOT getting his haircut. It’s bad. *cough-mullet-cough*
MY favorite Halloween costume was either 5th or 6th grade when I dressed up as Jem from Jem and the Holograms. It was so awesome that my hair stayed pink for about a week. ROCK!

Anna Grace is going to be a kitty. Not original at all – but cheap.

My boys, ages six and eight, are going to be a vampire and a Power Ranger. My favorite Halloween costume growing up was my “Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader” outfit…except it wasn’t a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader outfit, rather a dance costume I wore for a recital and then proceeded to wear each Halloween for YEARS, calling it my Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader outfit because it had a cowboy hat and lots of sparkles, glitter and fringe. Super cool, I know.

An all-time favorite? Each year I think that my present costume is my favorite. This year, it’s a cupcake!
Jennifer says:
I dropped a pretty penny of some Harry Potter robes at the new theme park this year so in order for my husband to be at peace with that situation, I had to agree to wear the robes at least 10 times or pretty much for Halloween for the rest of my life. With that said, I’m going as a witch from Ravenclaw with matching scarf and wand. One boy is going as little Frankenstein and the other boy is going as a dinosaur. Rawr!
Jessy Arnoldi says:
Hi Heather,
My best Halloween costume was a few years ago as a hospital patient with an exposed (fake) bottom!
Thanks,
Jessy
Diane B. says:
My two girls ( 6 1/2 and 3) decided that this year they wanted to dress up scary. They are the girliest girls ever and have to add sparkles to everything so I was quite surprised. The older one wanted to be a ghost but when she saw the “Unknown Phantom” costume she knew that was for her. It’s a long purple (her favorite color) robe with a hood that has a black mask over the face. She becomes a faceless spirit when she wears it–with pink sparkle shoes so everyone will know she’s a girl spirit, of course. The 3 yr old decided she needed to match her sister in scary so she declared she had to be a spider. We will be putting pink ribbon with black polkadots on all the arms and the little hood so everyone will know she’s a girl spider. They don’t want anyone to mistake them for boys–that would be a scary Halloween!
Heather K. says:
My favorite halloween costuem was in 5th grade when I dressed up as the “Nurse of Death”. In a full nurses outift, cover in blood & slashes in my shirt, along with my stethoscope I carried a knife!

I got to wear a red and black tutu, red sparkly tights, giant sparkly black fairy wings, and sparkly red devil horns (also a black shirt, I was not a topless devil-fairy). I also had a sparkly devil tail and a sparkly red trident. Most fun costume ever.
Elizabeth says:

We had a Halloween costume meltdown in WalMart on Saturday. My stepdaughter just could not figure out what to be!! Since then, she’s settled on a black cat.
My favorite costume, though, was definitely when I was a care bear in kindergarten. I was cool.
Erin says:
My friend and I went dressed up as a pair of dice one year and it was a huge hit! We got tons of candy that year, because people like our costumes so much that they gave us extra handfuls!
MichelleR says:
My daughter is going to be a dog! I know, not very original. Growing up, my mom made me an astronaut costume. It was awesome.
Courtney says:
My almost 3 year old is going to be a Dragon this year. She tried on and liked every costume that Old Navy had ..the butterfly, the dog, the shark, the hamburger, the bumble bee, and even the giraffe. It was a hard decision and it came down to the butterfly and the dragon and she chose dragon.
Stacey says:
Oh, oh, I need that printer, mine is in a corner…not working…with that being said. My 7 year old daughter is going as Hannah Montana which I am still trying to find the PERFECT boots for, so I hope it doesn’t all end up in tragedy. And my 2 year son wants NOTHING to do with an actual costume, so we found some black PJs that has a glow in the dark skeleton on them, so he will be sporting those. I originally wanted us to be a family of M&Ms, but no one was going for that
MB says:
Snickers bar. I couldn’t sit down since the costume was made with cardboard boxes and brown trashbags with a painted logo but it was perfect.
kelly says:
My son is hoping to go as the older semi-scary supervising cousin who has candy privileges. I think my nieces may surprise him with plans of their own!
Angie says:
Well, I might wear my deviled egg costume again this year. Although, one year when I wore it someone called me Humpty Dumpty and of course since I am a chick (and I was drunk), I started crying because I thought he was calling me fat. My not as drunk husband reminded me that I was dressed up as an egg and that Humpty Dumpty was, after all, an egg.
Awesome printer. Love your site.
Karen says:
My daughter is going as a bunch of grapes!!! I could so use that printer it looks just awesome! Thanks for the pumpkin patch pictures!

When I was about 7 my mom made my best friend and I a “pair of dice” costumes out of old boxes. It was great!

I don’t really remember any of my costumes growing up and I don’t dress up as an adult. I have never had anywhere to go for Halloween. I am a sad, sad soul. And we still don’t have costumes for our girls. Probably will dress them as fairies or pirates. Or both if our four year-0ld has anything to do with it. LOL!
Christina says:
When I was 11 I went as Scarlett O’Hara- my mother made my dress from my old curtains! I loved that costume!
my 4 year old is going as Cinderella (she is going through a princess phase) my 10 month old, since he is so blond he looks bald so he is going as Charlie Brown- I made his t-shirt!
I recently saw this father daughter (she is 21 months) dressed as Gallagher and a watermelon!
Jill says:
My sweet, kind and shy 9 yr. old daughter is going as a…ninja! (her choice) My 6 yr. old son is going as a Ghostbuster. No, he has never seen the movie…I have no idea why he chose that.

In first grade, I was a pilgrim. I was obsessed with the idea of people sailing on a boat and landing in a whole new land, the (yes, I know, falsified) story of the first Thanksgiving dinner, the pilgrim clothes. I mean, what little girl asks to be a PILGRIM for Halloween? Me, that’s who. Cracks me up every time I look at the photo.
Elissa says:
We have one little Mario and one little Darth Vader. (Darth was originally going to go as a dinosaur, but once he saw the “lifesavers” – or lightsabers – available at Target, there was no turning back. Dark Lord of the Sith it would be.)
Jennifer says:
My mom is a great sewer and she always made our costumes growing up. My favorite costume was the year that my mom made my sister and I M&M costumes. I was a green M&M and my sister was red. And 15 years later we can both still squeeze into them!
DE Heather says:
My favorite costume for myself was last year when my hubby & I went at Mortica and Gomez from the Addams family. We took 2nd prize in the HUGE Halloween Costume Contest that we had never been to before and so this year I can’t think of anything to one up last year.
Ariel’s costume was pretty cute last year and one of my faves (except the year she went as Glenda the Goodwitch or the House from the Wizard of Oz….she went 7 years as characters from the Wizard of Oz….it was crazy and fun) was that she was a bag of Jelly Belly jelly beans. It was fairly easy and everyone loved it. She even got extra candy because of it.
Looking forward to see who wins the awesome printer.
Ismara says:
My favorite costume was one my dad put together at the last minute. Shower cap, PJs and slippers. Slapped them on me with a little rouge on my cheeks and off to the parade we went. Gotta love fathers!

My baby girl, Deianeira, just turned 4 weeks today. Right before she was born, my husband came up with the idea that we’ll go as characters from wizard of oz. I’m going to be Dorothy, he’ll be the scarecrow, Deianeira will be a cuddling lion, and our dog that is just over a year, will be Totto.

Marie says:
I never really got into the whole Halloween thing, even as a child. I actually dreaded having to come up with a costume. But the year I was 12, I had broken my leg the VERY FIRST day of summer vacation in THREE PLACES. I got the ‘butt to toes’ cast off after 6 months just in time for Halloween. I couldn’t help but limp after that many months. So I went as a bum and limped along. Just gathered up some of dad’s clothes and put on a bandana. That actually is the only costume I can remember lol.
Still not a big fan of Halloween. My poor children had to wear the cheap plastic costumes from Ben Franklin. I bet they loved that!
Hugs
Marie

Connor (4) will be Buzz lightyear. This is the 2nd year in a row he asked to be something his brother was in the past, so we save $$ YEAH!!

For years I was a fairy. I would wear my flower girl dress from when I was in my aunt’s wedding. When that didn’t fit anymore, I wore my sister’s which was the same dress only 2 sizes bigger. My mom would foof up my hair and put her tiara in and we’d make a wand out of paper glitter and a straw.

Karalin Lyons says:
My kids are being very boring this year (in my opinion). Mario, Luigi, Toadie (all Nintendo characters) and my baby daughter is going to be a bunny…I think. SWAT team was the overall decision this year for my two boys! But for your little doll why not a Raggedy Ann doll, she really is a doll Heather!

I’ll do both.
My favorite costume was Boy George – in the 7th grade. I was *unbelivably* cool with a 2-toned gold and teal star painted across one eye/side of my face, topped off with gold lame body suit, hammer pants, *and* a glitter top hat. Puh-leese.
I have a bazillion (read: 4) kids. The oldest, Quentin (14) is going as a snotty teenager, just like he does every day. Gracelyn (6) hasn’t made up her mind: bloody zombie, or Tinkerbell? Michelle Schroeder says:
My daughter is dressing up as nurse, using my stethoscope and my son is going to dress up as his grandpa. We have a family theme this year. My husband is going as the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, I am going as the Queen of Hearts, and our 2 month old son is going as a Monkey. My 3 year old daughter didn’t express any ideas of what choosing what to be for Halloween nor what it was all about. She was more concerned about the party aspect. So I kept telling people who would ask what she was going to be that Yeah, Mom gets to pick the costume one last year…. ha…. last weekend my daughter informed me that she was going to be a butterfly, her 9 mos. old sister was going to be a kitty, Daddy was going to be a Bat and Mommy was going to be a Ghost…. How did that happen overnight!?! Thanks, Heather! I love your Blog! Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Dawn says:
Unoriginal here!

anita icenogle says:
My favorite costume was when I was a birthday present. It was probably my mom’s fav too as it was so inexpensive. Empty box, wrapping paper, curly ribbon. Voila! It was hard to sit down in, though!
The kids will be scooby and a kangaroo <—which has been in the works last year when the child realized she could carry the candy around in the pouch. Brilliant.
Angie says:
My kids are going as a witch, a ninja and whatever costume I can talk my two year old into putting on the day we get dressed up. (it will be tigger or a care bear we have a lot of costumes at our house)
When I was in about 5th grade I had a scary old man mask. I wore that with my dads boots, jeans and flannel shirt. I put a huge pillow in the shirt. The baggy clothes looked really funny on my tiny body and it turned out to be a great costume. It looked better than it sounds. Wish I could find a picture

However when I was in 6th grade for the Halloween Dance, my mom and my best friend’s mom thought that we should wear the leopard costumes to the dance. We arrived and we were the only ones in costume. Awful!

Becky says:
Emma is going as Tinkerbell, or as she says it “Pinkertell”
Kimme says:
This is the first year that our oldest son was old enough to pick his own costume. We’ve been talking about it on and off since July, and he was unwaveringly adament that he wanted to be Darth Vadar, so Vadar it is. As for our youngest, my husband and I had a battle over what he would be. The hubby wanted to put him in a superhero outfit, my vote was for the Garden Gnome. I argued that both boys will likely want to be a superhero for innumberable years to come; he argued that the garden gnome was too ignominious, that as an adult, he would curse us for putting him in something so ridiculous. We finally settled on Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba. It’s no garden gnome, but everyone was satisfied. Though I may secretly go out and buy a garden gnome outfit to put the little one in when my husband is out of the house.
Annie says:
I was Medusa (snakes in my hair and all). Fake snakes. Not real. I couldn’t get my college roommate to go as a rock statue, but now that I have a husband, I might have to revisit this costume.

My favorite costume growing up, was being a gypsy. I know – snoozeville! But for me it was the best because I was able to wear my moms clunky costume jewelry and I am pretty sure she let me wear nylons that night too. Big stuff when you are a kid. And you know ALL THE GYPSIES are wearing nylons, right???
Worst costume as a pre-teen….the 7th grade Halloween dance. My first dance. I decided to go as a trash bag. I thought it would be HILARIOUS to show up wearing a hefty bag. It was all well and good but about 30 min. into the dance, I am sweating buckets and buckets. I had made my own personal sauna. I think I must have lost about 20 pounds that night. It was a bad decision. This costume sticks out in my mind for that reason, and also because it was the first time I had asked a boy to dance with me. He said yes. The song: “Purple Rain” (He was a jedi/star wars something or other).
Best costume as an adult? The “grapes” from the fruit of the loom guys. I wore a purple sweatshirt/pants and then a green fabric “leaf” in my hair, the rest was purple balloons stuck all over my body with tons and tons of tape. Everyone kept trying to hug me though….not so smart but it looked cool!
Ali says:
my almost 2 year old is going as a ladybug. should be interesting since black tights are involved, and she has decided that she will not be wearing tights again…ever. wish us luck! my hubby and i are going to a 90’s party on the 30th and i’m going as courtney love, he’s going as ace ventura. he should have gone with kurt cobain, but alas, he was hell-bent on ace ventura. should be interesting!

Kyley says:

becky says:
When my mom was a little girl, she lived in Japan for a while. Her mother kept some of their clothing from that time. When I was in grade school, I got to wear her robe and slippers for Halloween. ok, first off. I must say, my little one and I have sung your Halloween song for days now!! Sooo cute! Now to the good stuff. My favorite costume was when I was 7 years old. I was Tinker Bell. Or so I thought. My parents couldn’t really afford the ACTUALL Tinker Bell costume, so it was mostly a hodge podge of wings, and such. I was toatally excited by it unitl I got to school and the firs thing a kid said to me was, “Look, it’s a mosquito with a wand!”

She has been wearing her costume every day and loves to look at herself in the mirror. This is the first year we’re actually going trick or treating. Wen she was a baby she was too young and last year she refused to wear the adorable lion cub costume I got her. Now, though, the promise of CANDY! is very enticing for her. I’ve also told her that if she trades me most of the candy she gets, I’ll give her a present. So she’s excited about that too.

I can’t even remember any of my costumes as a kid. My eight-year-old daughter, Emily, is going to be a vampire this year, but my favourite of her costumes was 3-4 years ago. She was a little goth-fairy-vampire-bat-thing. It was so adorable I ended up getting a caricature of her in it tattooed on my leg.
Formerly Gracie says:
My daughter will be going as a ladybug OR a flower. Yes, I bought her two costumes because I could decide which one is cuter. My son will be a fireman– using a raincoat and boots he already owns + a $5 hat from a second-hand store (WIN)
But that was only after skillfully talking him down from being thunder. Not rain clouds. Not lightening. THUNDER. How would one personify thunder?
Jennifer Richardson says:
My two year old son, Chase, is going to be either a spider or a fireman.
While I dont actually remember my favorite costume I have seen pictures of it. My sister and I are about eleven months apart. When we were three and four our mother made our costumes. Crabby Mommy says:
We’re still debating the Halloween thing this year for our boy (some noise and “zomg strangers!” issues that are getting better but we’re not quite at the “no meltdown” stage), but I think Annie would look cute in an 80’s costume. Think leg warmers, shirt ala Flashdance, sparkly headband or ponytail holders… it would be adorable.

Halloween is such a fun time of the year! I think it’s even more fun with kids. My older daughter (7-years-old) is going to be Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter because she is currently OBSESSED with Harry Potter. And my younger daughter (14-months-old) is going to be Cookie Monster in a blue tutu I handmade and a t-shirt with an iron-on patch I bought off of Etsy.com. She loves Cookie Monster (but won’t watch Sesame Street… She turns off the TV anytime it’s on). Now, my favorite costume as a kid was a Belle from Beauty and the Beast costume my mom handmade. My boys are going as a Vampire and Spiderman. You could make Annie Little Bo Peep and Rigby a sheep?

My favorite as a kid was being a ballerina! This year my 4 year old daughter is going to be Aerial.
Brie says:
I normally do not dress up for Halloween, but last year, I had a brilliant idea: the Balloon Boy. I reserved 19 round, silver mylar balloons from a party store and attached them to an old computer box (little Falcon was hanging out of the box with a puke bag attached to him). I was probably the most obnoxious costume ever, but I thought it was brilliant.
Sadly, I did not even make it past the 1st round of the contest (winning this contest would surely make up for that!!)
Deanna says:
My favorite costume was when I was 11 and I went as Scarlett from Gone With The Wind. My mom made the dress for me and it was my first costume that wasn’t out of the bag or had those plastic masks with elastic from the 80’s.

One year when I was maybe 7-8 I went as a bat. I cant even remember where we got the costume and vie never been able to find any pictures from that Halloween, but it was awesome. The wings and headband/ ears were black mesh with green glitter and they LIT UP! Knowing me I was probably wearing my black bike shorts and tank top with them…
Heidi says:
My “kids” are too old for trick or treating now, but my favorite costume when I was little would have been as a little indian girl. I had a shoe box painted brown, strapped to my back with leather strapping and my favorite doll carried – as a papoose. Today it would be considered completely politically incorrect, but back in the 70’s, I was AMAZING.
Rachel says:
I was almost always a hobo growing up, I think my parents were lazy about costumes
My son will be a dinosaur and my daughter a lamb.

My two boys are going to be matching monkeys – my oldest one has a collection of 3 monkeys that he calls his “guys” and he sleeps with them, etc. So I found 2 matching costumes and come Sunday all of them will be my guys!
Calliope says:
My favorite costume, and one I wish I could find for my toddler son now, was pretty much a beach ball contraption that I had on – but the blow up bit was a pumpkin. It also came with a hat and vivid green face paint that I am sure was totally safe to use on children circa 1983. heh.
The Suburban Housewife says:
My favorite costume when I was a kid was when I dressed up as
She-ra. My aunt made costumes for my cousins and me, and we all went as characters from the She-ra cartoons.
This year my girls are going as Abe Lincoln, a witch, Hermione Granger (from Harry Potter) and Luna Lovegood (also from Harry Potter).

My favorite ever costume when I was a child was Holly Hobbie. My aunt made my costume, right down to the bonnet with strings. I was SO cute.
(My favorite costume of my kids – my daughter was once Dorothy from Wizard of Oz and let me put two french braids in her hair, she was adorable. My son’s would be when he was a frog…totally homemade costume and it was awesome.)
Robin S says:
our 7 month old is going as an owl… as seen in this totally awesome tutorial– http://phubie.blogspot.com/2010/10/girly-owl-costume-tutorial.html. our almost 4 year old was going to be Fancy Nancy…but has now realized that the pink monster costumea friend sent for our baby somehow fits, even though its a 6-12m size fro the childrens place. weird.
so an owl & a monster for our girls.. who both LOVE annies video– our older one watched it at least 5 times in a row. she likes the mummy costume (on annie) best

my daughter, 17 months old, is going pretty much as herself in a black tutu. I was a responsible parent and ordered an adorable costume from etsy over a month ago only to be told on sunday that it wasn’t coming. everybody was sold out of everything so I made my daughter a black tutu and I was able to find one witch’s hat left at target, but she won’t wear it. so she is either a stubborn little witch who won’t wear her hat or herself in a black tutu.
