On my birthday, I ordered a spiced strawberry sangria to enjoy while we lounged by the pool. It was sooo good and very refreshing, and I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. I figured out the recipe and it’s even more delicious at home when I don’t have to pay $14 for one glass!
1 bottle of red wine
1 cup strawberry liqueur
3/4 cup spiced rum
1/4 cup lime juice
Fresh strawberries
~Combine all liquids in a tall pitcher and stir.
~Slice ten strawberries and add them to the pitcher.
~Refrigerate two hours, or overnight.
~Serve in glasses with a fresh strawberry garnish.
It’s tempting to drink this right away, but the longer it sits in the fridge, the better it tastes! It also packs a punch since it’s almost entirely alcohol, so be careful!
Any questions, let me know. Enjoy!

Mmmmmmmmmmmm!!! It’s 5:20am, I just got up, and I have to go to work in a bit, but I NEEEEEEEED one of these NOW!! Is it really all THAT wrong to start happy hour a “little” early…?!?

I have never used spiced rum except in the fall or winter. Sounds like an amazing receipt and I really want to try it for a party this weekend. However, I’m allergic to strawberries:(. Having tasted it, is there another fruit you would recommend? I was thinking watermelon or melon but would that be too sweet against the spice? Or maybe Cherry? Thanks!
Heather says:
Hmmm that’s a tough one! Cherry could work for sure. I think you’re right about the watermelon/melon being too sweet. I saw cherry liqueur at the liquor store so I’d try that!
Jen says:
Oh Lord. Recipe, not receipt. Love autocorrect.
Amber says:
WOW this looks fantastic =O
Meg says:
Ooh, yes — I would definitely be into this, especially poolside!
Aubrey says:
Is it very red wine tasting? Sounds amazing. But I am not a fan of wine, I know, don’t hate me. I have tried. Just haven’t found one I like yet.
Heather says:
I don’t *think* so, – the spiced rum is pretty strong! But, you could get rid of the wine taste by adding more strawberry or more rum. And, the longer it sits, the less likely it is to taste like wine.
Lisa says:
So….reading between lines, not too sweet? I made sangria over holiday weekend and it’s waaaay too sweet. But I added Brandy to it.
Heather says:
This is definitely not as sweet as the other sangrias I make. If you are concerned about it being too sweet, start with less strawberry liqueur and don’t let the sliced strawberries soak in the sangria. You can always add more liqueur if you want it sweeter! And, conversely, you can always add more rum if it’s too sweet!
