I love the Santa Hat Door Hanging I made last year before Christmas, and I thought it would be fun to make a similar craft for Halloween. Just like the hanging Santa Hat, the hanging Witch’s Hat is really easy to make, and it looks so good.
Witch’s hat
Flat-back hanging basket (I got this one at Joann, but I found several options on Amazon – you want something with a flat back.)
Fake flowers
Glue gun
Ribbon
Spooky accessories (like the rat & spiders)
Scissors
Wire cutters (optional)
Tissue/stuffing (optional)
Start by cutting off half of the brim on the hat. You might need wire cutters if your witch hat has a wire in the brim.
After you cut the brim, it should look like this.
Glue the flat-backed basket to the hat. (You don’t have to use one of these baskets – it helps to fill out the hat, but you could use tissue or stuffing to achieve the same result. Then you’d just have to attach some ribbon to the hat to make it hang.)
I glued ribbon around the body of the hat to give it a pop of color. I then added a plastic spider to the center of the ribbon.
Start filling up your hat! I thought about using lots of orange flowers, but was won over by the spooky purple.
If you’d like, add on the extra spooky items, like spiders or this cute lil’ rat.
And that’s it! So easy and it looks so good.
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!

I like this one a lot. Could you do some DIY’s like the fur that you did last year? I bought a new sewing machine over the summer and I am ready to rock.

Hi! I have all the supplies and am anticipating a problem with the brim of the hat. Will it actually stay flat and not flop down? If this could be a problem; can you recommend anything to keep it perfectly flat and straight like the picture? Thank you!!

Hello,
I made this witches hat and it came out absolutely gorgeous! However, I found that unless you have something extremely stable to hang it by, it tips forward and doesn’t hang right. I could not find the correct size of the wired basket to put inside nor a proper size styrofoam cone. I ended up using a “cornicopia” basket and stuffed the remaining with newspaper and used black felt pieces to cover where the newspaper was. Any other suggestions for a stable “hanger”?

How did you get the brim of the hat to stay flat? When I tried this the brim just falls down.
Heather says:
The wire in the brim held the shape!

I made this today with a homemade basket. I couldn’t find one like the one in the picture. I’m having a really hard time hanging it. It wants to hang forward and the brim isn’t saying up.
Any suggestions?
