Spider Hair

Annabel toyed with the idea of being a spider queen for Halloween before she eventually settled on something else. It did get my wheels turning, though, and I still wanted to try the idea I came up with for her hair. She was down with being the spider queen for the afternoon!

DIY Spider Hair
2-3 hair ties
8 clear elastic hair ties
8 pipe cleaners (black or a color that matches the hair)
Scissors
Black lace ribbon (optional)

DIY Spider Hair

Start with the hair in a ponytail on the top of the head.

Make a tiny bun in the hair by wrapping a hair elastic around the base of the ponytail, but don’t pull the hair through.

DIY Spider Hair

Divide the longer part of the hair in half.

Then, divide each half into fourths.

Take a fourth of the hair into one hand. With your other hand, press a pipe cleaner into the base of the ponytail.

Now, divide the piece of hair you are holding in half. Arrange the hair so the pipe cleaner is in between the two strands.

Braid the hair all the way down, using the pipe cleaner as one of the braid strands.

Secure at the end of the braid with a clear elastic. Repeat all over the head until you have eight braids.

After your braids are done, cut the excess pipe cleaner length.

Take each braid and bend it halfway down, so the braid looks like a spider leg. I also wrapped the little bun with black lace ribbon, and secured it with another hair tie. That’s definitely optional!

I like how it looks like a spider is just hanging out on her head.

The Spider Queen is fierce!

She also hangs out with other gross, giant spiders.
