Even though this is a Christmas decoration, I want to make it clear that there is still a LOT of Turkey Respect in our house. This week the kids and I are making all the clichéd handprint turkey crafts and it’s going to be awesome. But I’m also looking ahead to the winter holidays because I think these would make cute “thanks for hosting us for Thanksgiving” gifts, and also because the craft stores haven’t had Thanksgiving supplies out since…well, they really never had them out. Poor Thanksgiving. The good news is this door hanging is really easy to make, and it’s a cute alternative to a traditional wreath!
Santa hat
Flat-back hanging basket (I got this one at Joann, but I found several options on Amazon – you want something with a flat back.)
Fake flowers
Glue gun
Fit the hanging basket inside of the Santa hat.
Hot glue the hat to the basket.
Arrange the flowers! When I officially hang this (AFTER THANKSGIVING), I am going to put some small evergreen clippings in the arrangement to make it smell amazing.
That’s it! I plan on making a few of these to have on hand for hostess and last-minute gifts.
Any questions, let me know!

Did you use 12 in basket?
Heather says:
yes!
Morgan says:
I can’t find a hanging basket anywhere!
Heather says:
You definitely don’t need one! You can glue/sew/staple ribbon to the hat instead, and just fill the hat with stuffing to fill it out.
Karen Davidson says:
I was thinking instead of a basket you could use the styroam cones. they would fit perfect in the hat.
Karen Davidson says:
Styrofoam cones

You could put a stuffed animal in it! The kids would like that!

Hi. This is adorable and inexpensive. What did you use to hang the hat on the door hook?
Heather says:
I had a basket with a hook inside of the hat, but you could glue a loop of fabric onto the hat to hang it!
