I wanted to make something pretty to hang on our front doors between holidays. I liked the idea of having a bouquet of flowers that I could change out with the seasons. I couldn’t find a good hanging vase, so I made one out of burlap! Easy and durable.
Burlap sheets
Fake flowers
Ribbon
Decorative moss
Glue gun
Button (optional)
Pen, ruler, scissors (not shown)
Rocks/pebbles (not shown)
Start by measuring out a square of burlap. I made mine 12-inches-by-12-inches.
Cut out the burlap, plug in your glue gun, and turn your square so a corner is pointing at you.
To make the burlap vase, start by folding the edges in and gluing the bottom. You’ll want to make sure that you have a sheet of paper or something disposable under the burlap, since it’s full of holes. You might also want to use a small piece of cardboard to place over the spots you’ve glued, because HOT.
After you glue down the bottom of the vase, work your way up the burlap. Place a piece of paper inside of the vase so you don’t accidentally glue it shut.
Cut a piece of ribbon and glue it onto the back of the vase. My ribbon was 12-inches long, but the length you’ll use will depend on where you want to hang it.
If you’d like, you can glue a button onto the front of your vase to jazz things up. I put mine a little too close to the top of the vase, and the flowers ended up covering it. Attach it lower than I did, about two or three inches from the top.
Lightly fill the bottom of the vase with the dried moss. If you’re going to hang this outside, you might also want to put a few rocks or pebbles in the bottom of the vase to weigh it down a bit. I discovered this after I hung mine up and the wind blew them around!
Start arranging your flowers! I found it was easier if I hung the vase when I was filling it. As I added flowers, I also added more dried moss to hold everything in place.
That’s it! Pretty easy and very pretty. I picked flowers that look like the ones that grow around my house.
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!
