Ladies and gentlemen, we have a one-year-old.

My six pound, fifteen ounce baby (who seemed SO GIANT when he was born) has more than tripled his birth weight and grown ten inches. Interestingly, his head circumference now matches his birth length. His giant head could be considered a deadly weapon in some states, but we’re making sure he’ll only use that noggin for good.

This little boy is such a freaking delight. It’s literally impossible to not smile when you’re around him. Even when he’s relentlessly trying to injure himself (he’ll climb and dive bomb and stagger and wiggle through and generally disregard his personal safety entirely). I can’t ever take my eyes off of him unless he’s sleeping or strapped into something. Good thing he’s so cute.

I’ve always had a completely non-scientific theory that babies are either verbal or physical. My daughters were both verbal and had several words by their first birthdays. James has a few words but he’s definitely a lot more physical. He’s incredibly coordinated and I’m 90% sure he’s going to be left-handed like his dad and Annabel. I guess I really will need to invest in some left-handed products for this house.

James loves laughing and being around people more than anything else. He loves books and Mickey Mouse and throwing his toys. He also loves Rigby, and even though he’s not even slightly gentle she can’t resist him, either. Watching him grow has been such a treat. I can’t believe how much he’s changed.

What a wonderful year it’s been!
