I’m writing this in advance because this weekend I’m out of town, celebrating my cousin’s bachelorette party. Leah has been engaged since December 2012 so I really can’t believe that it’s time for her wedding festivities to start. I’m hosting her wedding shower in September and, of course, I’m already having a blast planning it. So excited for Leah and Ted!
Around The Net
~Love these quotes from some of my favorite famous ladies.
~A very interesting article on trophy-hunting lions and why the United States should add lions to the Endangered Species Act.
~This kickstarter project is so clever. Each kid has pulled keys off of my computer at some point. I really hope the project funds because I want to buy one!
~I have a post up on Babble where I discuss some of the ways we work with Annabel to overcome her fears.
Getting Organized
~My parents gave me a gift card to The Container Store for my birthday, and I’m going to use it to jumpstart my office/craft room organization. Right now the room is total chaos with fabric and random bits of business paperwork EVERYWHERE. I think a few swing-arm pant hangers would be great to hang material on, stacking boxes would absolutely organize all my random papers, and I’d love a fold-down ironing board so I didn’t have the temptation to use my regular ironing board as another surface to stack stuff on!
Getting Support
~I’m one of those people who wears bras into the ground. Now that I’m over a year postpartum, as much as I love the bras I have (like my spanx bra, no back fat!) they aren’t cutting it anymore. My cup size has changed significantly (doooooown) so I need to invest in some new ones. I went to Nordstrom a couple days ago (because half-yearly sale!) and bought this soft cup bra…I really wasn’t sure about it because it doesn’t have underwire, but it’s surprisingly supportive. Still, I need some bra suggestions so throw ’em my way.
Coming Soon
~This longer Gone Girl trailer looks really good. And Neil Patrick Harris!
~And this Hunger Games: Mockingjay teaser…I CANNOT WAIT.
Just…Stop
~I’m already getting Back To School emails. Can we make all of July school-free, please? As fun as back to school shopping will be, I just need one summer month where we don’t have to think about school!
BlogHer Bound
~At the end of the month, I’m co-hosting an official BlogHer party, the Sangria Sundown Soiree. The company hosts are Eppa Sangria, One2One Network, Soybu, Whole Foods & Whole Planet Foundation, and the blogger hosts are me, Heather Barmore, Morgan Shanahan, and Jenny Ingram. If you’ll be in San Jose on July 24th, you should come! You can RSVP here, and you can join me and my other co-hosts for a twitter party about it on Wednesday the 16th at 6pm PDT!
Happy Sunday, everyone!

When do y’all go back to school in Cali? I live outside of Nashville, and our county’s first official day is July 30th. It’s only a half day I think, and the 1st full day is August 1st. So, school supplies lists and ads have to be in full swing ’round here! We have a short summer in our town because of year-round schooling– we get a 2 week fall break, 3 1/2 week winter break, and 2 week spring break throughout the year. I love it.
Lucky for me though, I have until August 18th for school. Yay college!

Wow!
I’m in Massachusetts – I’m always curious how other parts of the country handle back-to-school. We usually don’t start until right after labor day (around September 5), have a week off in December, February, and April, and then schools out for summer mid-June! Thats so different!
So waiting another ~7 weeks until its really back-to-school is HARD.
Jordan says:
Dang! I would HATE to wait til June to get out of school- the weather here in TN is so ridiculously hot at that point, so at least we have some decently warm/not crazy hot days in May to have outdoor fun. I love having the shorter summer, because I am the kid that gets BORED without school for too long. And I loved having a fall break, and a longer spring break to recharge.
Heather says:
Here school is similar to Mass, we get out mid-June and go back at Labor Day. The hottest months in Southern California are August and September!
Jordan says:
Gotcha. We typically start the 1st week of August, and get out the last week of May/1st week of June. In TN, the weather depends on the year! Our weather is SO fickle. This year it’s been in the 90s since mid-May, but on the 4th of July it was only in the 80s, with hardly any humidity (a rarity here!). Last year, it started getting summer-hot in April. Blah.

When I lived in Lake Arrowhead, it’s a bit different because of Snow Days. They go back mid August and get out in June..it was always kind of odd for my kid to go back to school so much earlier than his friends “down the hill”. Now that I live in Idaho, it’s even more mind boggling, they start August 26 and get out May 20. Which seems so much shorter than CA’s school year.

I’m in CA and this year we start school August 18 and get out the first week of June, so you might be a week shorter than us. We get a “ski week” in February and no snow days.

Re: bras, Have you tried True & Co? I’m not a rep for them in any way at all, but I HATE trying on/buying bras and they do make it more painless for the most part. Might be worth a try if you’re looking for a few new ones.

Kids head back here in AZ on July 21. We have modified year round and the kids might as well be in school when it’s hot. I love our extended fall and spring breaks for the weather and travel. School supplies are already purchased or ordered.
As for bras, I’m currently in love with Maidenform’s Comfort Devotion line. Midpoint on price and super comfy. I’m too cheap for much else.
judith says:
Wow, your school holidays are looooong!!
In Scotland, ours finish up last week of June and return 3rd week of August.
7 weeks is way long enough for us (especially as our weather is usually rubbish for most of it!)

My best bra advice would be to go and get measured. If you have a small boutique store that specializes in this, that might be your best option. They will measure you and then based on the kinds of bras you tell them you like, they’ll bring them to you to try on. They usually have a shirt so you can see what the bra looks like under something too. One of my favorites is the Wacoal Embrace Lace Bra (currently available on Zulily in gray). I have a few Chantelle Bras that are great too, but I can’t find the style I have online anymore. I think it’s similar to the Rive Gauche 3281 style.

My kids go back to school August 6th. I live in the Phoenix area in the East Valley. School is not year-round here. On July 5th the stores replaced all of the Independance Day items with back to school items. Ugh. I have 5 kids, and I just want to curl up in a fetal position and whimper rather than think about buying back to school clothes and supplies.
My favorite bra is by fruit of the loom, I think. It’s wireless and slightly padded. I think it’s marketed as a t-shirt bra. I have 3 colors and wear them until they fall apart. (which surprisingly for a cheap bra, takes a long time!) At around 10-12.00 each, it’s a win-win. It is definitely supportive enough and the slight padding stays smooth under t-shirts and tank tops. Since I breastfed my kids, I still need support and these are perfect for everyday.
I am in love with the fold down ironing board. I told my husband when the kids start moving out, I get a craft room. I am already pinning ideas. I have totes and bags with my craft stuff stored right now. I just get things out as I need them then put it all back. I dream of shelves with my fabric coordinated by color, and my yarn and hooks in easy reach….my spools of thread hanging neatly on the wall…my sewing machine on a really nice sewing cabinet with an ergonomic chair with a huge corkboard over my table for my project ideas….ahhhh…. I love daydreaming.

Ummm, my kid will be 7 in September, and I’m wearing a nursing bra as I type this. So I’m probably not the one to hand out bra advice. *hangs head in shame*

Bras: I *finally* went to Nordstrom and got a proper fitting. (Best bra fitting ever BTW! Love they way they do it there) I ended up buying 2 spanx bras and a Wacoal one. LOVE them…and I swear it looks like I lost weight. Thanks for suggesting the spanx..sooo comfortable
Heather says:
Oh yay! My mom bought a spanx bra, too! So glad you like it!
