James is now 2/3 of a year old, holy moly!
month one, month two, month three, month four, month five, month six, month seven
weight: 19 pounds, eleven ounces
length: 29. inches
head: 19.5 inches
hair: golden like the sun
This month, James became a baby with wants and needs beyond eat/sleep/clean. Specifically, he wants everything he can grab (and everything he can’t). Annie quickly learned that she can’t leave anything precious to her anywhere near James, because everything he touches is covered in a fine layer of drool. He gets extremely focused on the items he wants and starts grunting, rocking, and rolling until he can reach it. It’s hilarious except it means he’s going to be crawling soon, and once he can move it’s aaaaallllll over.
This little guy is impossible to resist. He’ll let absolutely anyone hold him, and doesn’t care if he can’t see a familiar face – as long as someone is playing with him, he’s happy as can be. He’s started an adorable new habit of acting shy when he first meets someone. He’ll smile, then bury his head into my chest, then look back at the new person from my chest and smile again. People basically throw ponies and jewels at him.
He’s still not sleeping well. He’s teething (again) and I am hopeful that once his fourth bottom tooth finally breaks through, he’ll have a bit of a reprieve. His smile is so cute with seven teeth! But those baby teeth are evil and really need to be stopped.
He’s been pushing himself into the crawl position more and more, but then seems puzzled about what should happen next. Annie likes to get on the floor next to him to demonstrate crawling, but that always leads to a giggle-fest of epic proportions. Annie can literally just look at James and say, “Ooga Booga” and he will laugh like he just heard the funniest joke in the world. Of course, now Annie thinks she IS the funniest person in the world, but I don’t think James would disagree.
We are right on the edge of big stuff with this little guy. I can’t deny it any longer, it’s time to baby proof. I have a feeling he is going to be trouble.
Adorable trouble, but definitely trouble.
Love the photos of him deconstructing the block words Super cute Little Man.
Love his hair color.
He is just one little dreamboat of a guy!!
If we end up with another baby, I blame the third and fourth pictures. How adorable is he?
I do believe he is one of the prettiest babies I have ever seen. He always looks so happy.
He’s just so adorable! Good luck ever telling that kiddo no, he’s just too cute!
Heather, he is just so cute!

The most adorable baby boy, ever!
I would definitely throw jewels and ponies at him (metaphorically). Such a darling.
he’s got such a lovely hair color! it looks like an auburny brown (or is it just the pictures?)
He also has the loveliest smile. Such a sweet babe!

CUTENESS OVERLOAD!!!! What a DOLL!
Seriously, he has to be the cutest baby in the world with a personality to match. He needs to model. But anyway, those pictures made me laugh because for the first time, I thought, Hmmm. He’s gonna be a stinker. A funny, cute, lovable stinker, but a stinker. And then I saw your final sentence and cracked up.
I’m totally staying tuned for all of James’ big adventures.
He looks so much like you in that first picture, Heather! And I loved the line about people throwing ponies and jewels at him. Hilarious!
Kathryn M. says:
You and Mike make such wonderful, adorable babies!!! Are you sure you don’t want just one more? (kidding!)
What a cutie! And I love that Conan O’Brien hair! I finally noticed, with the third and fourth pictures, how very much he looks like Maddie. And definitely seems to have gotten his sister’s smiley happiness, too! So dang cute!
The third picture from the top makes my uterus sob. Your kids are so stinkin’ cute!!
Yes Jessica!!! Mine too… only it’s the 4th from the top!!
He doesn’t like sweets? But, he’s rearranging the letters to say “Jar of Samoas!” He’s a genius, and he wants Girl Scout Cookies!
Oh yeah, and thanks for taking pics of him in just a onesie, so we can see those squeezable legs! Good thing you live in SoCal, where it’s warm enough to do that year-round.
He is beyond cute! And in that last photo in the chair, his expression looks exactly like one Annie makes.
Every time I see a picture of him it makes me smile.
When I open an email from the Spohrs and see THAT smiling baby…it makes my whole day happy. I adore him!
My WORD. I don’t comment on blogs. But that boy! That BOY!! He is everything wonderful (and sure, troublesome:) about babies all in one adorable package. He is so well-loved it oozed right off him!
oozes…as in currently…which now that I think about it, sounds gross. I just meant to say that he seems so securely joyful and loved!
He just too damn cute. It almost makes me want to…nah! I don’t want any newbies. I’m ready for grandbabies.
He melts my heart! I can’t say that about many babies since I have 8 month old twin girls that receive all my worship and adoration. But James? I just love him. Cutest, most angelic baby boy EVER.
Happy 8 months to sweet baby James & his parents! xo
True story: at Christmas time, me and my sisters were talking about how much we hate elf on the shelf bah humbug.
One of my sisters told the other sister about your James, and how he was an exception to the rule. So we all stood with our phones, googling pics of how DIVINE your son is. You cheered us up (for like, seven minutes, but thank you.)
My very favourite age of a baby is eight months. They are just extra-magic special for some reason. James is special all the time … seriously Heather, he is so, so, so beautiful.
Love you hon. Really hope you are well.
You certainly have the most beautiful kids!
God, he is SO CUTE! I totally see Maddie in him. What an absolute LOVE!
wow, haven’t been here in forever! James is a girl version of Maddie. He is absolutely scrumptious!
