I absolutely love getting my mail in December, because every day there are more adorable holiday cards from my friends and family. Around now is when I start getting a twinge like, “oh man, I really should send out cards…” because everyone else’s cards inspire me! I love displaying the cards, and in years past I’d tape each card up in my kitchen. It looked cute but the cards ALWAYS fell off the cupboards and walls. This year I wanted to do something that would hold up a little better, and decided to whip out some cute clips made out of felt and clothespins.
Wooden clothespins
Paint and paintbrushes
Felt
Cookie cutters in holiday shapes
Glue
Fabric pen
Fabric scissors
Ribbon
Command hooks (not pictured)
Start by painting your clothespins.
While they dry, trace the cookie cutter shapes onto felt (OR if you’re some kind of artist or something, draw them freehand). Cut the shapes out.
Add any embellishments you might want. I put little ornaments on my trees, made my candy canes multicolored, stuff like that.
Put glue on the top of your clothespins.
Firmly press each felt cut-out onto the glue strip on the clothespins.
Using my command hooks, I strung up strands of ribbon in rows on my hall closet. Then I hung up the clips and cards!
I really like how they turned out! And, best part, they don’t fall down like the taped cards!
If you have any questions, let me know. Have fun!

Love the felt trees and candy canes. I do something similar except I use glittery red clothespins and my ribbon is swagged on my dinning room window. I use three different types of ribbon. I love Christmas cards and this makes for a nice conversation starter at Christmas dinner and beyond. You are a clever girl Heather. Your kiddos will have lots of wonderful memories when they grow up!

And yet another DIY I will make of yours! So many of your ideas I have done with my grandchildren. Thank you again Heather, love these!!!

This is so much better than just piling up the cards (like in my house… lol)

Fun tip: if you would rather, nail polish is paint for clothespins. So if you have some fancy/sparkly Christmas-y polish, it’d be super cute. (it takes a couple of coats depending on the polish, but it dries super quickly!)
Cute cute!

is GREAT paint* it’s not the only paint, Lol.

I love the idea of putting them across the door. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with ours in our tiny apartment that is our temporary home. My question is how did you attach the ribbon to the door? I’m trying to figure out how not to damage the door and also have it stay. Thanks! Also, any tips for good clothes pin sources? I just hate having to go to five store trying to find one item.
Heather says:
These clothes pins are from Joann Fabric, but I’ve also bought them from Target. I attached the ribbon to the door with command strip hooks! I put the hooks on the back of the door, then tied the ribbon onto the hooks. That way you can’t see the hooks, but they still hang there securely! If you haven’t used command strips, they’re great! They don’t damage the walls.
