Okay Heather…I’m telling you right now, I can’t pick a favorite. I love ALL of your entries and read them first thing EVERY morning. I love the way you write and everything you say touches me.
Since I don’t have an all time favorite, I’ll tell you the blog that was most touching for me. I have a daughter named Madelyn as well (but with a y, as you see). I saw something on babycenter about Matt Logelin’s blog and clicked on it b/c his daughter’s name was Madeline too. And because you also have an awesome taste and named your daughter Madeline I clicked on over to your site. This was on April 15, 2009 when you wrote “Home”. I was holding my little Mady in one arm and the laptop in the other. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was so upset, sad, pissed and heartbroken that your little Maddie Moo was taken from you. I was so touched by the way you wrote. You were so descriptive, I felt like I was with you that day while you picked up your daughter’s urn. I thought to myself how like you, I couldn’t wait to hear my little girl say Mama and my heart ached because you never got to hear that from Maddie’s sweet lips…. I realized at that moment that nothing is promised. I hugged my Madelyn tighter than I ever have and thanked God for giving her to me.
So from that day forward I have been deeply touched by every single word you have written. Thank you for making me appreciate what I have as well as making me realize it can be taken from me at any given moment.
I LOVE all of your posts…some because they’re so touching, others because they’re hilarious. Conversations in a Car!! I laughed so hard because I have had this conversation with any one of my kids on numerous occassions. I once sang “Wheels on the Bus” for 45 minutes in the car because my daughter was quiet if I sang!!!

Okay, sadly, I have spent the last 20 minutes going through your archives searching for the post I loved the most … BLUE AND GOLD.
Maddy’s eyes were so unique and attention grabbing. They are, quite possibly, the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen!
“When I look at her eyes, really look, her face falls away. While the skin around them is unlined, the eyes are old. She has seen much in her short life.” And the picture you have at the top of the post fits perfectly. Her eyes are not only amazing, but angelic.
Hearts broke around the world when Maddy passed away, but I will always remember a comment you made during her funeral, “her eyes were embarrassingly beautiful”. Beautiful they were.
“As you grow older, you shed skin, you lose hair, you grow fingernails. But the eyes. The eyes stay the same. Scars on your skin will fade, a bad haircut grows out, broken nails eventually mend. But the eyes. They can’t un-see. They don’t grow or shed. The eyes you are born with are the eyes you take with you to the grave.”
I will never forget Madeline Alice Spohr with eyes of blue and gold. She has found a place in my heart forever.

My favorite post was the one about the rain on your wedding day! I think it was for an anniversary…the reason i love this post is in September, I just got married. Anyways, I was reading your blog while I was still infatuated with my special day and realized that we wore the same dress if not so similar. I think my favorite post was probably Maddie’s methane. It was just a funny little anecdote about your daughter and something that could have just been another story. Another day or two in your life, and you wrote it in such a way it became this humorous tale which also just gave little nuggets of Maddie’s personality (how she plays hide and seek, how she laughs, etc)

My Little Maddie Moo
I cant have children. I found out at 20 years old that I have POF (Premature Ovarian Failure) and I was actually in menopause. I have always felt that I was born to be a mother. I cant. The option was taken away from me soo fast and so unexpectedly. I felt and still feel empty. I dont know anyone else with POF so I have nobody to relate to. I have seen a therapist and I am constantly told to adopt. While I want to, I am afraid that I may never have the kind of connection a mother has with a child she carries….the kind of connection that was blatently obvious between the three of you. This post gives me hope that one day I could have that connection. It reminds me of what is so special to me and to never stop fighting for adoption or IVF….thats it is worth every second of tears, blood, sweat and heartache.
I love reading your blog every day, I cherish so many of your posts. But my favorite was “Here Comes the Sun” too. I felt like I had been holding my breath for 8-1/2 months and I could finally exhale. I was so overjoyed about Annie’s birth. But the words of the song brought so many other emotions for all you had been through. So I have to say that is the post that touched me the most.
P.S. I would really love the 2 free nights at the Hampton so my hubby and I could do a little getaway for our anniversary- pick me!

I love The Story of Annie’s Birth Day, because I am a sucker for birth stories.
That, and I had a similar situation when my third daughter was born. My blood pressure dropped really low, and they came rushing in and unlocked the emergency box on the wall. I ended up with two different shots of Ephedrine and some other med to get things under control. You don’t realize how scary that is until you and your spouse have been through it.
Happy early birthday! Mine was last week, and I turned the big 30.

I cried when I read “Him” the other day. It was so raw and honest- I read your blog to celebrate the happy moments with you and to sorrow with you over your precious daughter. It may sound cliche, but I never want to take a moment with my little man for granted- and thanks to you I never will.
Any post with Maddie and Rigby and Annie’s new one where she’s doing stand up. Classic!

I love all of your posts, but my fav would have to be “Conversations in a Car”. I can really relate to the stress of being helpless while driving. I think you have the cutest babies in the world!!!!

Good morning. I loved Annie’s last video post “An Annabel Spohr Exclusive!”
My favorite one is “The converstation in the Car” Been there done that. Pleaded, begged for the baby to be okay and not be mad at me!
Any time I need a laugh, I can always count on “Twenty Dollar Made Me Holler”. Hilarious.
I have to be honest. One of my favorite posts from is your Memorial Day post. In the midst of everything you have going on, you still took time to go to the cemetery and honor our veterans. I think that’s something that’s lost among the current generations. I remember going “cemetery stomping” with my grandparents and parents growing up and taking the time to clean the stones that were neglected, etc. I was thrilled to see someone else educating the next generation and taking time out to do what’s right for our fallen soldiers. It also made me cry thinking about Maddie and others lost. My cousin’s baby died of SIDS about the time you lost Maddie. I’ve always connected the two in my thoughts and prayers, though I never met your family or precious little Maddie.
Swimsuit Edition, because Maddie’s cuteness transcends anything else. That bikini! The tiny shoes! It makes me melt just thinking about it.
Maybe tied with Here Comes the Sun. Every time I hear that song I think of Annie.
After looking back through a lot…my favorite post was “It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…” I think that video is classic.

I think I would have equally loved a blog post announcing that Maddie was coming home, but I had not yet discovered your blog back then. But I had discovered your blog this year and I was excitedly thinking and praying for you and your new soon to be baby girl “A” (and wondering what beautiful name you and Mike picked out). So when she came (and you announced it in such a fun and happy way, leaving me humming “Here Comes the Sun” all day long), I was just so happy for you my heart could burst. After all that you and Mike have been through, I felt that you deserved that sweet little Annabelle more than anything. She really is sunshine and that song still makes me think of her and you and what a welcome and deserved blessing she is.

It’s horrible, awful and sad… but your heart wrenching words reminded me of my own pain.
The outside world can’t see my scars… but they are there. I see them every night when I change into my “home clothes” after a long day at work and again every morning when I jump in the shower.
Sometimes, I don’t think much about it– and sometimes, seeing my scars hit me like a ton of bricks.

She is Italian (born and lived there until 16 when her family immigrated to America) and I LOVE when she uses am American saying but says it slightly wrong. “Its a blessing in costume” when she really means disguise. I blame it on her thinking in Italian and translating it as the words come out of her mouth!

I have to say I am loving the Giant Dork post. Here is why…My middle son has broken 3 toilets. THREE (and he is only 4 years old!)!!! We are building a home and were talking to the plumbing suplier about the toilets and we were asking how strong the tanks were and he said he had never heard of anyone breaking a toilet. Made us feel REALLY stupid…I am so glad that someone else has a busted toilet tank story. Oh…The first time he broke a tank was when we were first potty training him. He wouldn’t go near the toilet without screaming for 6 months. It was terrible for our potty training! LOL
I love all of your posts and check your website daily! I have 2 favorites. I love “Commencement” as I also had a preemie at 29 weeks and can remember the day we were able to take him home after 11 weeks in the hospital. After weeks of worry and agony, you finally get to take your baby home and act like a “normal” family. I also love “My Little Maddie Moo” as it is one of the most touching things I have ever read. Thanks for sharing your family with all of us!

I would vote the supero hero video posts. Because your baby is adorable. My husband always watches them with me and says “She’s SO CHUBBY” and then giggles like a little child. He loves him some fat babies, and hopes someday I’ll give him one as chunk as yours!
I have loved everyone I have read – be it sad, funny or just being. I find that I take something away from all of your posts – even though it takes me awhile to digest some.

I love reading your blog. It is hard to pick a favorite, but I really like the one about Rigby and the peanut butter incident, which is saying a lot because I hate peanut butter. When my husband eats the stuff I make him sit on the other side of the room from me because of the smell!

Hard to choose a favorite but recently, I super enjoyed the Conversations in the Car. That is SO my life!! One day my son was screaming his head off in the car, while in traffic. Like the kind of screaming that insult your spinal cord, for 10 minutes non-stop. My husband calmly turned to me and said, that river bank way down there looks pretty darn good right about now. He meant he wanted me to pull a Thelma and Louise! I almost freaked out for a split second and then had to laugh because it was one of those briefly insane moments that all parents have.

My Little Madie Moo was def my fav. There are so many parts that stand out to me:
How she was embarassingly beautiful.
How she selected her Abby Cadaby doll.
How she made her mark with her LIFE.

Honestly, my favorite blog post is the one you linked to today, about your teddy bear Theodora. Why? Because I am 26 years old and I still sleep with my baby blanket, Bessie. I have had her since before I was born and she has been through everything with me — broken hearts, boys, moves, college, deaths in the family, really hard times. She’s about to move on with me to law school.
People don’t understand it, generally, and think it’s bizarre.
As I am a non-parent, I sometimes have a hard time relating to some of your posts, but that post? I relate to 110% and it makes me feel like less of a freak.
So. Yeah.

I had been following your blog since it’s beginning, and I was almost at the end of my pregnancy when I read this post. I can’t describe how happy and hopeful it made me for you, Mike and your family when I read it. I cried openly at work, and remember going home and telling all of my friends and family about it. As I followed you through your pregnancy, Annabel’s birth, and her first few months, I felt connected to you in a special way. As soon as I would finish a stage with my daughter, Rylee, it would begin for you and Annabel. Even though we are not friends, i feel like our girls are growing up together!
My fave post was the one telling everyone Annabel was born. It was such a hope-filled moment for me, and really touched me. You have a wonderful family.. all five of you (including Rigby!)

My favorite entry that I’ve read (so far, I started following you about a year ago and have been trying to read from the very beginning little by little) is “What’s in a name” written 10/29/07. I have a similar relationship with my grandfather, who is currently terminally ill with esophogeal cancer. I admire and love him so, that my husband and I have decided that his name (Joe) will be our daughter’s middle name (Jo) as I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant. I hope that she can grow up to have a fraction of the personality, determination and compassion of my grandpa and it breaks my heart that he won’t be around to see her grow or for her to know like I do.

I remember when you posted My Little Maddie Moo though because I had just had my first baby (a girl!) not too long before that and I remember looking at my daughter after reading it and thinking that I was going to be the best mother ever and I was going to make sure every day of her life is the best day ever. My favorite post is the one you recently made regarding the physician that you now dislike so much. I have been a nurse for 18 years and despise physicians who have no bedside manner! My current pediatrician was chosen by me because I personally witnessed him cry like a baby 19 years ago when I was in nursing school because on of his patients with terminal cancer passed away on the pediatrics unit I was doing clinicals in. That is a real man and a real good doctor in my opinion. Many are afraid to speak up about poor bedside manner and I appreciate you taking a stand!
Definitely the teething remedies post on Maddie.

I love the post Imagining. It is the same thing I wonder about my two children I lost before my miracle. It is good to know I am not alone in being happy for the child you have now, but never forgetting and always wondering what could have been.
My favorite is the post where Madde is singing into her breathing treatment machine, but I forgot what that was called. My second favorite was the “anatomy of a Christmas card”. I always loved those posts where you’d have Maddie and Rigby as your partners in crime and you’d take pictures and tell a story with it. It’s the reason I started reading this site!

I think my favorite post recently was “Him”. I guess the best reason for “why?” would be…I see you are human! So many times I read and think..man she is a saint, gone through so much and doing great. Seeing that you still struggled with “Him” and what he did helped me see that you are after all human…but a good one that takes the high road!

Your post on A Lesson in Bedside Manner is actually one of my favorites. Because I’m a childbirth educator and a lactation consultant and I so often (sadly) cross paths with amazing families going through amazingly difficult times during what they expected to be their happiest times. I know some truly fabulous doctors and it makes me sad when I come across those completely lacking in bedside manner.
I love the club mix and I love to watch it with my three daughters….Ashley, Abigail and Annabelle. They just love to see it over and over and crack up every friday at the video! But I like this one especially cause it instantly cheers them up!
You have so many wonderful posts. I could spend a whole day re-reading all of them. Well honestly it would take more than a day but you get the picture. When I opened that post, when it quickly dawned on me what I was reading (that “Binky,” the baby we’d all been hoping and praying for together, the little sister of exquisite Maddie, was HERE … here and safe and in your arms and full of sunshine), I completely broke down into gasping (happy) tears.

The fact that she hadnt laid on it since Maddie’s passing and one day she finally did signifies to me that she had been grieving for her little buddy and she was getting to that place where you think ‘everything is going to be ok’. While I love many of your posts, I have a strong fondness for one that actually came after this post- Heather Spohr: Giant Dork. I happen to be a big fan or dorks, and have always considered being a dork a great thing. So to hear that someone else does too, it’s awesome!
Most definitely my *current* fave is the Amazing Annabel video post. Classic.
Oh, boy. So many posts. I’ll go with a recent favorite where you stuffed a diaper down your pants at the Adidas store. I still laugh about that, plus the comments were just as funny.

Aww I have so many. I’ve been reading your blog since I got pregnant in 02/2008. I actually read all of your previous blog posts in one day. I think you are an incredible person. I love learning about you as a mother and wife. As far as the contest goes, I really don’t care whether I win or not.. I love the chance to tell you all my fave posts. I loved it when you announced you were expecting Annie. I remember not realizing that I was holding my breath until I finished reading the post!
My other favorites are the videos of Maddie that you discovered and posted after you thought they were gone forever. They made me start taping moments in life that aren’t necessarily “video-worthy” with the knowledge that I’ll appreciate them someday.
You have no idea how bad I need a) a vacation and b) fresh and clean bedding. My favorite post is the first one I ever read, where Maddie is teething and nothing is working. Those pictures are priceless.

I loved the club mix video (and all of the other creative ones you two have made of Annie!). However my REAL favorite was one you wrote a few months ago—I am not sure why it struck a chord with me, and I have sat here for an hour trying to find it with no luck. You talked about sitting on a park bench and wanting to yell out that you baby had died! I guess it just made me feel such compassion for you, while thinking about real pain and how you never know where people are or have been. That just because cute, sweet Annie is sitting on your lap, and you are getting a picture with Paula Dean, doesn’t still mean your pain is lifted, or that it is anything any of us who have never lost a child could ever comprehend.

I love “She’s got legs”. I love that you have a positive association with a body part you weren’t comfortable with. Without a doubt my fave is your birthday lunch at Target. I was laughing at the thought of my coworkers traveling to Target with me and subsequently jealous that I never thought of it. My 3 year old sons favorite is any with pictures of the “pretty baby” (Maddie) or the “talking baby” (Annie).
I look forward to your posts every day so its hard to choose. I really liked “I’m Pretty Sure Mike Is Wrong” because it reminds me of my husband and myself.
I have to say, I have a hard time picking a favorite. I have read every single blog entry since Maddie was born, and felt heartache with most every entry since she passed. I think my favorite ones, are, oddly, the saddest ones, as I find inspiration not only for myself but for other parents who struggle and find your blog as solace in the loss of their child. I’m not sure what it’s called, but the one where you detail your physical marking in rememberance of Maddie, the first photo of your M music note tattoo… that was my favorite.
Here Comes the Sun was definitely one of the most ….. well, most touching posts ever. Happy and sad.

I was absolutely thrilled to read your post about The Day Annie was Born. I don’t know you, have never commented (because I don’t think I have any right to comment on your life when I really have no idea what you are going through or how you are feeling), but I think of you and pray for you and wish only the best for you and your precious family.
My fave is Staples And Gas Pains And Scars OH MY as I can relate to the c-sec, gas pains and staples… Not quite as squeamish about the staples going in or coming out–but still the memory and the scar remain!
Well, all of your posts are winners, but I really loved the one where you talked about naming your daughters! So lovely.
I love any post with Annabel as the star in a video. And the post about your diaper usage was hysterical, as was when you got sick on your way home from the inlaws. LOLed!

I don’t remember the title of the post but it is the one where you have photos of all the little beautiful parts that make up Maddie. Her lashes and tiny little feet. You made a photo collage to hang on your wall, I think. I just thought it was a love letter to your baby girl. I know how important those little details are and how easy it is to forget them. Having those photos is such a great idea.

So simple, sweet, and it really showed what a beacon of light Annabel is in your lives. It made me tear up then, and it’s making me tear up again now. So that is my favorite post.

Awh…the first one that comes to my mind is the one about your Uncle who passed away…”he rests under a shady tree”. I am so moved by the way that you hold such a broad perspective on your pain. You are able to consider the different types of pain that other people feel…and you seem to have such empathy for people. That was a really moving post.

So hard to pick a favorite post…I have a few tops that i like for different reasons, but most recently, “Moms say the darndest things”…it made me laugh out loud and reminded me of ridiculous things my mom says.
I really liked bottled up. Ugh, there is so much pressure to breastfeed, from others and ourselves. Sometimes life happens and our kids turn out fine!

Here Comes The Sun. I read this right before I went to bed that night, and I could hardly sleep I was so happy for you. I wanted to tell my husband the exciting news, but he would have just called me a blog stalker.
I don’t know the name of it, but it is the one where you talk about, and compare yourself to your grandmother and the loss of a child. I haven’t lost a child, but there are things in my life that happened when I was younger and couldn’t comprehend the big picture. Now that I am a mother of 3, I recall things from my childhood and let’s just say my vantage point has drastically changed.
“Here comes the sun.” Such a fitting title, and such a hopeful post.
I loved the Super Annabel movie, but even more I liked the follow up interview she did with McCheesy! It was An Annabel Sphor Exclusive. Too cute!

I don’t know that this is my FAVORITE, there are way too many to choose from, but I have never seen a celebrity, and I got to live vicariously through you and Annabel in this post, it was great!! Definitely a favorite!! And the look on your face in the first pic is PRICELESS!!!

I have to say, I am torn. I love how hilarious some of your posts are, but the raw emotion you are able to communicate is amazing as well. I have to say I live any post where you guys talk for Annabelle. But the one post that really touched me was when you talked about Maddie’s nurse.
I have two favorites. My Little Maddie Moo, which as everyone has already said, is just amazing. And Peanut Butter Filled Dog; it made me cry from laughter.
This latest Annabel adventure is wonderful! She may not think so when she’s 16 though…
I’m joining this conversation late so I can say that I love the latest Anabelle video. I usually have to watch them from work with little or no sound so I miss a lot of the cuteness! If I could go away, say to the Hampton Inn and Suites, I could watch them all with full sound!

My daughter is just a little older than Annabel so I can see a lot of what Annie is doing in my daughter. I especially got a kick out of the Stand-up video. When I am trying to put my daughter in her high chair, for example, she keeps her legs straight making it difficult to get her in there.
Really, I have loved almost every single one of your posts, and picking a favorite is no easy task. But since I just watched it (three times in a row I loved it so much!), I’m going to go with Annie’s video “Juvenile Justice.” OMG that was adorable/funny!!
What’s in a Name? I love hearing the stories about baby names, and it is a great story!

In only recently years have women begun speaking openly about the birth experience and I think its an enlightening and important experience for women to understand. I think we’re all very lucky that you were willing to write it all out for a random group of strangers!

For My Madeline in April 2010. Made me bawl, but it was the most honest piece of writing I’ve ever read. It felt so personal, and yet I knew how many hundreds of parents in that same situation must be taking comfort from your words, knowing they weren’t alone.
I recently just found your blog. However, a little while ago you posted a link an entry you wrote about testing ways to make teething better. As someone who is about to become a mother, I loved it.

in March- (i know form checking your list it was the 12th- 2009) When Madeline displayed all those AMAZINGLY cute beyond words bathing suits.. “swimsuit edition” i am seeing is the title..
You have posts that touched my heart.. broken pieces off.. i have laughed and woken up my children to hug them in the wee hours of the night..
but those suits- and her smile… hard to top.
The teething experiment was my favorite. The look on Maddie’s face with some of those options was so priceless.
“In the Middle of the Night” has been my favorite of late. It made me laugh out loud because my hubs does that same thing to me all the time!
One of my favorite blog posts is Sisters. I have no full siblings, and I have 2 children and love seeing the differences and similarities between them, so it was wonderful to see the same between Maddie and Annie.

Okay, let me first just express how DISTRESSED I am that washing the duvet cover (“even the duvet cover”!) is not the norm…?!?! I travel a lot for work, and I have not wanted to know much about hotel washing policies for this very reason. OMG, I think I might throw up.
I love a lot of your posts. I don’t always comment because you get so many comments that it feels silly, but a lot of your posts move me (and I don’t mean in the bowel area).
I read you a few times before you lost Maddie, but I started reading you daily after. I was pregnant with my fourth baby and just could not FATHOM what you were going through. (Obviously.)

My favorite blog post was on July 20, 2009, “The Spohrs are Multipying.” I found it so touching, when you talked about finding out about your pregnancy so soon after Maddie died and how you had to find a way to reconcile your feelings of joy with your grief. I had been reading your blog occasionally, but after that post I was a regular reader. Thank you for sharing your experiences in motherhood with us!
