Maddie was a busy girl this weekend. She went with me to lunch on Saturday, then we ran some errands. On Sunday she went with Mike and me to a birthday party and then to into my office. I’m really glad that Maddie’s health is stable enough at the moment to allow all these excursions. We’ll have to be a little more cautious when cold and flu season comes around.
Most people that meet Maddie comment on how happy she is. And she really, really is just the happiest little baby ever. The only time she ever cries is when she’s hungry or we are physically forcing her to GO TO FREAKING SLEEP. She smiles at everyone she meets, and getting those cheerful pictures of her aren’t hard, because she has a perma-grin on her face.
Whenever someone says, “What a happy baby!” I usually say, “oh yeah, so far! But we’ll see when she gets older.” But now that she IS getting older, I’m realizing she might NOT always be my happy girl, and that scares me. She’ll get frustrated and angry and sad. She’ll be able to let us know how she’s feeling by using words. And while it will be amazing to hear her talk and know what’s going on in that head of hers, sometimes it’s nice to just see that smile and know happiness.
I’ll do everything I can to keep this smile on her face.

When those words do come, some will suck but a lot will be awesome.
Like “You’re the best most cutest mom in the whole wide world.”
I see you got the tutu!
I’m glad that she’s friendly. Soleil is scared to death of most people. Neve and maddie will be cool.

I love that smile. I just want to squeeze her and kiss her little face…right after I’ve completely disinfected my whole body because I would HATE to give her Thomas’s cold.
I’ve found, after 20+ years of parenting (OMG! am. so. old.) that their dispostion usually stays the same. I’ve got one who’s always been a little pensive and reserved, one who’s like Maddie, one who was born with an FU attitude and still has it, and the littlest, who’s reserved but very friendly once he’s comfortable. Sure, she’ll have rough times, but I think on the overall, she’ll stay happy.

I’m being totally honest here. Pictures of Maddie put me in a better mood every time I see them. So thank you for sharing them.
(Jackie!yarn has arrived, but I’ve been sick so I’ve been holding off on the hat until I’m sure I won’t be infusing it with germs.)
SHE IS SO CUTE! Love the tutu. I can’t wait to see you all soon and give her little squeezes. Love you.
In my somewhat limited experience, the babies who are happy are generally happy kids. I have one serious and demanding, one happy, yet stubborn and so far one easy as pie boy. He’s still a bit young to say for certain.
They tend to come into the world the way they are going to be, personality wise.
I needed my daily dose of adorable today. Thanks, Maddie. And yeah, my kids? NOT SO HAPPY.

The younger of my twins is the same way. Always giggles and always smiles. And I always hope that there is never a reason in his life for him not to be just as happy as he is now.

Great pics! My daughter was super happy until age three. At four, she became more trouble in the emotional department. But still, she is so much happier than either of my boys!

In addition to hats with animal ears, my little girl needs to have an extensive wardrobes of tutus – as inspired by Maddie! Such a freakin’ cutie!

Have I ever said how cute I think she is? I just showed her picture to Mr. and he agrees with me how adorable she is.
(I showed him the Matt Lauer post and we both were LOL!)
So…the big question – how’s Survivor going for ya?
You know overall kids that are happy by nature stay happy. Not 100 per cent of the time but overall. You get the full range of emotions but the overriding thing is happiness. At least that’s my experience.
Love the tutu! I have a happy baby, too, but we’re starting to see previews of stubborn toddlerhood. That? Not so much fun.

AW! My heart just melted a lil…ok a LOT….bit. I think Maddie’s gonna be a pretty happy kid…I agree with Shania – I really believe lil ones show their personalities right away.
My seven year old used to be like this as a baby. He was CONSTANTLY smiling. So happy. So cheerful.
Now he is seven. He is in first grade. You know what every preschool and grade school teacher has said about him – FIRST THING – on every report card or in ANY conference? -
WHAT A GREAT SMILE GAVIN HAS. HE IS SO DELIGHTFUL AND CHEERFUL.
I love that about him.
