Annabel hates grass.
At least, she used to. We were at a birthday party a few weekends ago, and I set her on the grass for just a minute while I took off my sweater.
She quickly sized it up, and then decided she didn’t hate it anymore.
The park was huge, the grass stretched on as far as Annie could see. At first she stayed close.
And then she slowly got up on her knees, and looked around.
I tried to get her to explore the park with her mama. She ignored me, and instead decided to crawl away.
My heart was bursting. She was crawling so fast her arms and legs were almost blurry. She was making her own path, and she didn’t need me to lead.
This is what we’re supposed to want for our children…
…right?

You might be scared that your little girl is happpy to wander off on he own but have you considered that she is only able to do that because of the security and confidence that you have given her.
She knows you’ve got her back and that you love her and will be there for her. With that knowledge she can travel to the moon!
Perfectly said!!!
Absolutely!!!
It IS what we’re supposed to want for our children, and we DO…but its also the reason why I still rock my three year old at night.
EXACTLY!!! Our children our only our own until we give them wings to fly. My oldest son is a home body….Mama’s boy but my Sydney….she is independent, brave and simply cannot WAIT to see the worlds. I’m already sneaking in every kiss, hug & cuddle b/c I KNOW she WILL leave the nest. My baby…well, he is on the fence but he looks up to his sister so much, I wouldn’t be surprised if he spread his wings as far as they could take him as well.
Annie is so cute and her personality really reminds me of Sydney. People who meet Syd ALWAYS tell me “That little girl is going to take life by the balls”. I have a feeling Annie is the same type of gal! ha ha
Although, I’m excited to see what they’ll do with their lives but I am in NO way wishing these years away. I know how fast time flies…. I miss them already!
A lot of babies hate grass… I hated it right through grade school.
Small milestones are scary! Just last night it occurred to me that my oldest is closer to her drivers license than she is to teething. Almost halfway to drinking age here in Canada. I want to just cuddle with her, but at the same time I’m seeing more and more of that independence both of the girls. I’m looking forward to hopefully having another baby next year, but in the same breath I will officially have a child in the double digit age category.

Wait a second…is that GREEN grass? And sunshine? I’m filled with jealousy…and buried by snow.

Annie is so stinking adorable but I was also overcome by the green grass, sunshine, and adorable spring top she had on!! 7 more inches of snow on its way here. I really need to move!
Annie will like grass better then me. I still hate it , I fear of the little creatures that are down in there that I cant see and it just feels weird!!
Annie is sooo adorable, she has the cutest round face and I love the different expressions she has on her face.
I know the feeling… I raised my kids to be independent, and now they are independent and it irks me… Sigh, the pitfalls of parenthood!

Oh the cuteness that is Annie!
Becoming independent, it’s bittersweet. We want them to be independent and strong and go their own way, but man is it hard to not feel needed.

Go Annabel!
Just wait until they go off to college in another state at 18…. ugh!
I love, love, love that adorable top she has on. You dress her in the cutest outfits!!!!
She’ll always need her mama!! She looks adorable though!
Yes. But it is hard to watch isn’t it? She is so cute in that shirt! Girls clothes are so fun.
My first boy HATED grass for so long… he would not put his feet in it! It was like trying to put a cat in a water…

It is… Doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to swallow hard and wipe away a few tears when it actually happens… Because no matter when they start finding their own path, it always seems too soon!

Both my kids loved grass. A whole heaping lot! Just wait till she’s running full speed away from you and laughing the whole way. Good times!

Annie’s rocking that shirt.
I wonder if they make it grown-up sizes, because I would quite like one for myself!

That is the cutest top. Where did you get it? Annie always looks so stylish!!
hi there,
just found your blog today. i too, lost my daughter very tragically and unexpectedly. she choked on a small apple piece in our church parking lot two weeks before her second birthday. six weeks later i became pregnant with my now almost-two-year-old son. i always enjoy finding other blogs and parents who have lost children.
i think you are doing a great job at living life.
I sooo want to eat er’ up and nom on those cheekers!
She is absolutely so adorable. I just don’t know how you get anything done. I’d be sitting around staring at her all day.

Awww….she’s so beautiful
Look at her go!
Grass can be a funny texture for babies to handle. Some like it, some hate it. Some just don’t know how they feel about it.
How does she do with sand? does she like it, or hate it?
or try to eat it?
There’s nothing quite like a diaper full of sand:)
The beach days are coming…I hope we see some “sandy” photos soon!

I know and love that look- the one she has in the third picture. My son used to do that, too. It’s like they are seeing the world for the first time through drug-induced visions, sans the drugs. As if to say, “Mom, it doesn’t get any better than this!” Everything is exciting.

Annie is just so gorgeous. Yes, she’s crawling away there but there will still be plenty of days, and years, when she will need her Mum and Dad.

Sigh. It’s all I can say as a fellow Mama.
It is what we want.
But it also gives us even MORE reason to hold them tight when they are sleeping

I love her shirt!! Seeing your beautiful girl crawling around the grass makes me really miss summer right now. I am ready for all this snow to melt!
I’m going to be 29 on March 23. I can’t stand grass. I hate it. I hate the feel of it on my feet. I hate the texture and everything. Ugh. Mom said when I was young (Annie’s age) I would cry as soon as she put me on the grass and would crawl over to the cement and immediately stop crying.
Don’t know what it is but I cannot handle grass. *shudder*
