Eleven Down

by Heather on December 23, 2010

in the amazing Annabel

I’m stunned we’re at this point:

eleven months old

(month one, month two, month three, month four, month five, month six, month seven, month eight, month nine, month ten)

She looks stunned, too:

eleven months old

weight: 23 pounds 5 ounces
length: 30 inches tall
head: 18.75 inches
hair: thick and curly

Her mimicking skills in the last month have become much more refined. She can now clap, show us where her hair is, blow kisses, give kisses, point to things, stick her tongue out:

eleven months old

and best of all, declare a touchdown:

eleven months old

She says mama, dada, doggie, go, stop, hi, bye, and no.

In fact, right after I took this picture, she yelled NOOOOO at me.

eleven months old

When we catch her doing something she isn’t supposed to be doing (which is often), she’ll grunt and yell nooooooo before we can even say a word. In addition to disciplining herself, she even disciplines the dog when she barks. It’s really convenient.

We’ve all caught a break from teething this month and it’s been soooooo nice.

I am struggling to get her to use a sippy cup. She just has no interest and assumes all sippy cups are toys. It’s beyond frustrating.

Nothing about her seems like a baby anymore. She wants to feed herself. She squirms to get down and roam free. She wants to play and do things on HER schedule.

eleven months old

That includes walking, which I KNOW she can do, she just WON’T.

Maybe she’ll walk for me on Christmas.

My second child waited to walk until he knew he could do it – then on his first attempt, walked all the way from our bedroom, through the hallway, round the corner into the kitchen! Annie might be waiting too.
As for sippy cups – just give her a normal cup. She’ll soon learn not to spill. Then she might take to sippy cups for when you really need one (when travelling or whatever). Good luck :-)
Love the pics, especially the knowing look in the last one!

I can’t believe Annie is 11 months old already. I still remember when she was Binky. I have literally tried every sippy cup out there and my daughter refused every one of them except the Nuby straw sippy.

At 20 months old she still only wants that one. I’ve gotten her other straw ones but some my hubby and I can’t even drink out of. It’s like our brains will burst by using them. ;)

Just wanted to add that I love that the sippy we use has a flip top cap so it can be closed when on the go and you don’t have to worry about finding a lid. The downside is it will spray you if you’re not careful when opening.

That can actually be entertainment for our daughter though and comes in handy when she’s getting restless at the grocery store. :) We use Dr. Brown’s natural flow cleaning brushes or else it’s a big pain to take the straw part out to clean.

These past months have just flown by! My 11 month old has been using a straw cup since month 9 or so. Maybe those will work better for Annie too?

Wouldn’t her walking for you be just the best Christmas present? Maybe she is saving up for then just for you :)
I can’t believe how big she is getting, I can barely remember my kids at her age, and here you are with these wonderful reminders. I love reading about little Annie and the rest of your family, even the ones that make me cry. Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas

LOL when my son was about Annies age, the sitter used to tell me abut him ” cruising” around her living room. He’d never do it at home though, until he got “caught”.

She’s totally messing with you. Every time you turn your back, she’s breaking out in to a crazy top hat and cane routine ala Michigan J. Frog.

Mine didn’t walk until 12 and 13 months, they showed a small amount of mercy to the terrified cat that lived with us and gave her time to prepare her hiding skills.

Annie is so cute and you can see her personality in every photo. Try a sippy cup that has a straw. My daughters could use those first before any other type of sippy cup. I usually had the best luck finding them at Target. Enjoy the Holiday’s!

My youngest was super difficult with a sippy cup. Course he would never even take a bottle either! But I finally found one with a soft spout that is more like a bottle…Walmart carries them. Try that-it might just be that she doesn’t like the hard spout.

Wow. 30 inches and she’s not even one!! My kids were such little peanuts. My one year old “porker” was 28 inches and 21 pounds. Just a stick. Maybe it’s because I breastfed until one? Annie is rocking it!

Try a straw in a fast food cup and then pull the switcheroo with a sippy cup…

She’s such a sweetie! We switched Zoe over to her sippy when she turned 1, we started giving her the sippys when she was about annies age now, but filled them with juice. By the time her birthday came we just switched them all out, and never looked back. But I agree with everyone else.. it’s when they are ready to do it. If Zoe hadn’t wanted to drink from the sippy she wouldn’t have.

11 months – time flies, doesn’t it? My little man will be 10 mos on the 24th. He loves the super cheap sippy cups from Wal-Mart. They say “take-n-toss” … we tried others, but no luck.

Ah, the bottle battle. Neither of my boys were sippy cup fans. Better to just skip the sippies. My doctor said to use a sports bottle. They make cute little ones for kids. It is like sucking but yet not. It worked GREAT!!! Then go to a straw after that and drinking out of a regular cup.
LOL! This was with my second kid. The first one was on a bottle until he was over 2 years old. I did the sports cup with him too out of desperation and it worked! :)
Plus then they have to transition again off the sippies to a regular cup. At least with sports bottles or straws you never have to worry about it!

Oh man she’s delicious! She is so squishy and adorable!!!!

Try a sippy cup with a soft mouth piece at first so she can bite down on it. Doing so will release a little of whatever is inside, and she’ll figure out that she can get something from it, and that it’s not just something to hurdle across the room at Rigby! Either that, or give it to her without the rubber stopper inside of it the first few times. It will accomplish the same thing.

Thank you for sharing your precious baby girl with us! She sure is something else! :)

    Merry Merry!

cutie pie! as far as sippy cups go, my daughter, who is 19 months, would not do sippy cups until I tried the thinkbaby one. you can use either a bottle nipple or a sippy cup nipple with it. it worked very well for a couple of weeks while we were trying to transition–the only problem is that it leaks a little.

I second the sippy cup w/ a straw idea. I have known several children that would have nothing to do with either the soft or hard lid kind that took right to the straws.

My daughter walked for the first time on Christmas (11.5 months old) and it was the most amazing gift! But she would NOT drink out of a sippy cup until she was almost 2. I am so not kidding. You know how they say just don’t give them the bottle and when they’re hungry or thirsty enough they’ll use the cup or eat the solid food? Umm, yeah, not so much. My advice is don’t stress about it! When she’s ready, she’s ready, and as you know from her independent streak she’s going to do things in her own time!
    Merry Christmas!
