Remember this face?
Well, it got worse. For the latter half of last week, Annabel looked like that during every waking moment. And she was awake a LOT – On Wednesday and Thursday nights, she was up screaming until 4am, and then intermittently throughout the rest of the nights. Nothing helped.
And then these showed up:
I have never hated three teeth so much in all my life, and I had impacted wisdom teeth. The crap these three teeth put Annabel (and ME) through made her two bottom teeth seem downright angelic.
When Madeline teethed she was grumpy, but she never just completely freaked the freak out. Last week I was pretty convinced Annie was going to have an alien burst from her stomach. I did some frantic research into exorcism.
Those devil teeth tortured mah bay-bay!
She only has five of her baby teeth. We still have fifteen to go. FIFTEEN! OMG.
I need to do some research into sedation. For me.

Teething tablets, tylenol, anbesol. The drs. said try not to use the last two but I did anyway.
Oh, I tried those, along with several other treatments. Didn’t even make a dent.
Aww, poor little girl! I love the little halo and devil horns you added, hilarious. I know they make teething sucks shirts for babies but they should make them for adults as well. Just sayin’

take one of those water filled teething rings and put it in the freezer- the cold really soothes them. ices also works. neve totally was a BAD teether, we felt every moment of each tooth. soleil would wake up with new teeth and we didnt hear a peep!! each child is so different.
Oh, I’m right there with you!! We have the top four coming down all at once. And yes, those evil four do make the bottom two seem like angel teeth! I had to show this post to my husband, as we are in this with you!

Okay, first of all- I am new to your blog. Love it. You have a gift of humor and your perspective is a blessing to others reading this.
Second- I have never posted a comment on someone else’s blog but this is the most hilarious and accurate account of the top teeth coming in ever. My daughter just recently went through that and it sucked. So bad. My husband was overseas for work at the time which meant I had the joy of it all completely to myself. I seriously pondered who I had so terribly wronged as to receive this type of punishment.
Hopefully the worst is over???? I am telling myself that too. Good luck!
poor girl. Jana, my second daughter was teething bad too (her teeth ruptured a blood vessel on both sides and she had dark blue gums for days!) and I was considering my options…ended up drinking at least one glass of wine every night for, uhmm, a day or maybe more.

Have tried freeze a wet wash cloth? That helped my kids when they were teething.
You’ll get to go through the agony of de-teeth again when Annie gets braces! (Which is why I’m postponing the orthodontist appointment for my 2nd daughter…)

Oh my gosh…those teeth are just so sweet. Even if they are devil teeth for what they’ve put you through…they are still so adorable!
My babies have never had any trouble cutting teeth, so I have no advice or wisdom for you in that department. Sorry about that, but I’ve just been so fortunate that way. It has always been like, “Oh! Look at that! A new tooth!” and we never had much of a warning that the tooth was coming.

Awww, poor Annie. My children thankfully never suffered when teething. One of my favorite photos of Maddie was one you posted when she was teething. Even though she was crying, she looked so beautiful. WTG on the 5 chompers Annie. We still only have two fangs. Wanna see a baby with fangs? Pretty cute!
Poor little Annie! I always say, it’s not fair such tiny humans have to endure such huge pain (remembering when my own nasty wisdom teeth hammered themselves into my head–during my first finals, freshman year of college. Thought I was DYING!!) Maybe these first ones will be the worst! I hope so!
My Robert, went through the same torture whenever he teethed. The only thing that worked for us was a combination of Advil and Anbesol, Tempra didn’t do crap for his teething. Because he was such a chunky baby like Annie, the dr told us to give the meds according to his weight, that and only that did the trick. Teething rings didn’t work, NOTHING but the combo worked on my poor boy. I give you lots and lots of love and encouragement, I feel your pain ! Love and hugs from Canada !

My neice loved chewing on ice that was inside one of those mesh baby feeder things – not sure what they are called. We would fill it with ice cubes and she went to town. Poor Annie I hope she’s feeling better.

We’ve been having the opposite problem with my 6 year old. He had his first tooth coming out this week, and due to his sensory issues, he was screaming his head off every time he tried to eat.

OOhh, I hear ya Sistah!!! My daughter didn’t get 1 tooth until after her 1st b-day and then she got 11 at once over a 3 week period. She was so bad, we had to take her to the Dr.’s. He told us her gums were “on Fire…So swollen and sore”. He actually gave her some codiene to have at night since it was getting to the point where she would be up ALL night and sleep all day for our moms. Both my DH and I would go to work beyond exhausted and even threw up a few times b/c we were so tired.
Alas, we did get through it but I won’t lie and say it was easy…it SUCKED even with the drugs. I always hated to see my little girl in so much pain and it was so hard her gums were even too sore for a cool cloth!!! SUCKS!!!
Thinking of you…sending you positive energy, Annie relief from pain and you all laughter to get through it so you can even think about having another beautiful baby!!!

Have you ever tried Hyland’s teething tablets? You can pick them up at any health food store. My sister swears by them (and I’ve seen them work wonders, as well.)
Go to an adult toy store and get some analease. I know it sounds gross but it works so well on their gums. It’s better than oragel. My kids pediatrician suggested it to me and lots of moms did too. If nothing else the store will give you blog fodder =)
That was the funniest thing I’ve heard yet! I wish someone had mentioned it to me a few years ago – I have horrible teethers, usually!
Have you tried frozen waffles? Just cut her a strip and let he gnaw on it. My kids like it. We often go the popsicle route too.
Hopefully those little teeth will give yo a few weeks break, and not be so horrible when they do come in!

Oh goodness!! Poor Miss Annabel and Poor Mama. I hope things get back to normal for you all soon. We used teething tablets too and they help a BUNCH!! Good luck!!!
When my daughter had surgery for a hip problem due to a bone diease, the doctor gave me a prescription for valium. I was shocked and she explained it was to prevent leg cramps. I told her that I wasn’t going to give a child valium, period, she would have to survive on Ibuprofen. The doctor then said I should take it, it was a shame to let it go to waste! So if it gets to be too much, and you can’t medicate her, medicate Heather!
Poor girl, 3 at once! YIKES! Do you guys have a mesh feeder? That was our only salvation with Dean. I’d put a frozen slice of peach in there and let him chew it til it was nothing but pulp. Hope everyone gets some relief soon!

Mine got the devil fangs first (two at the same time) and now has the two upper middle ones coming through. There is definitely something about those top teeth. His two bottom teeth were angels as well. This made me laugh, but almost cry at the same time because I’m there
Poor Annie (and poor mom!) Here is what we recommend at work: Give your baby a frozen teething ring, rub on teething medication, and give your baby children’s Tylenol.
It sounds like you’ve tried it all, so the next bit of advice is to scream along with her!

Baltic amber teething necklace. They’re not for the baby to chew on but to wear (supervised, during waking hours). The amber supposedly provides natural relief for pain/swelling. All I know us that for my second and now my 3rd (6 mo. old, cutting those bottom two) it has made a significant difference in their chewing/drooling/misery level-didn’t know about them for my first. Wish that I had. We use Boiron camilia teething drops at night and it helps with sleeping. Good luck with the teeth….this too shall pass (my mantra for coping).
Sending good thoughts that you are through the worst of the teething. Both our kids had a lot of pain and horrible sleep with teething, we ended up talking to our pediatrician about alternating tylenol and motrin and on the worst days that would help. We also had some luck with the mesh feeders with ice cubes and a chewy toy that helped a lot. Our 7 year old even used his again when his 6 year molars. If Annie doesn’t like it, you can always give it to Rigby. It came in handy during my daughter’s biting phase but we won’t get into that now

I don’t know how to say this without sounding ‘know it all’ but did you ever have her ears checked after her cold? … sounds exactly like my little one when he just had an ear infection. He’s teething, too- it’s so hard to rule out what’s what- but for him, the inconsolible crying has been his ears 2x now.

My daughter was like that too with her first 2 bottom and first 2 tops. She turned into a demon baby.. she would have frightened the exorcist I’m sure. The other teeth were not as bad though. Hopefully those were her worst too. She just looks so darned cute with her new little biters!

I hear you. My first baby was a little bit moodier than usual during teething. My second baby was a nightmare. He was seriously bothered by every tooth.
He actually started throwing up when his molars started to appear.
I always thought it was because he was a “man” child, but I guess Annie blows my theory out of the water.
It sounds bizarre, but I gave both of my kids a rubber baking spatula (the kind you lick the bowl with) and it was a life saver! The bigger the better- I have a huge one from Williams Sonoma that is at least an inch thick and it is very effective!

I have read your blog forever and never commented, but I have to say thank you for this post. I am going through teething with my first child (the ‘angelic’ bottom teeth) and it is pure hell….thank you for making me smile on this sleep deprived morning.
My 10 month old is teething. She has 3 coming through right now. I don’t know a way to make them sleep through the night, but frozen pancakes sure do stop the crying when she gets really ramped up. My oldest never gave us any indication she was getting teeth. This is new for us too!

I learned something from your blog today. My husband and I were wondering how many more teeth to expect to come in for our daughter. Now, I know that she should have 20 total. I kept forgetting to ask the pediatrician and didn’t think to look it up online.

Three teeth all at once…that’s a lot – I think.
Did you try giving Annie a frozen mini bagel? That helped with my little one.
I also tried Orajel to numb her pain and it worked ok.
If all else fails, may I recommend a margarita – for you
I tried the frozen bagel and just wanted to add that you need to be careful with this. My daughter bit off some of the bagel and began to choke. It was very scary.
Thanks for adding that! I forgot about it. I was watching my daughter like a hawk when I gave it to her, but one distraction could have been so bad.
Tylenol and ibuprofen together. Well, the first does together and then the tylenol goes on a 4 to 6 hour schedule while the ibuprofen goes on a 6 to 8 hour schedule. Tylenol and ibuprofen work on different receptors to kill the pain. The pain killing power of the two together is much greater than the sum of the individual parts.

My daughter is about a month younger than Annie, but she’s right on target with her and these devil teeth. They are killing me!! The poor girl is miserable, and my boobs can’t take too much more of the gnawing!!! Egh… but I’m glad to know I’m not alone with these devil teeth. Makes me feel better knowing someone else is going through the same thing.
Try freezing fruit like mandarin oranges and let her suck on them, it seemed to help for me. Looks like there could be another one soon on top.
It will get better, I promise.

those upper teeth are a bitch! my emily used to get massive, runny poops along with a horrible rash with every tooth. along with the cranky, screaming, terror mess. now that she’s 14 years old it’s just the cranky, screaming, terror mess, LOL!
the only thing that helps is alcohol, and lots of it! for you, not the bay-bay….

“Grandma Says- Rub a small amount of Clove Oil on baby’s gums where the tooth is coming in.
What the Doc Says- Clove Oil is a natural numbing agent. Dilute one drop of essential Clove Oil in 1tbsp of olive Oil and rub it on baby’s gums. Use as needed every 2 hours. You can find Clove Oil online and at natural-food stores such as Whole Foods. ”

Teething is the WORST thing ever. Seriously. Hate it. My son is 8 months old and had no teeth until yesterday. I guess that explains the waking up every 20 minutes all night last week
He only has 1 that is semi-through and I’m kinda hoping that it pops through along with his other 19 while he’s napping right now…. My daughter was a MUCH easier teether (is that a word?!). I didn’t even know when she got her 1st tooth-I dropped her off at my moms while I went to run errands on her 4 month birthday and my mom called to ask why I didn’t tell her that her 1st tooth had popped through-ummm, I hadn’t even realized it. Great mom huh?! She had 8 or 9 teeth by 8 months old (and she was a preemie!) so her brother is WAY behind her. Hang in there.
This has nothing to do with your post, but I wanted to let you know anyway. My daughter is 514 days old today and wearing purple in honor of your beautiful Maddie. She is getting extra hugs and kisses today because I know how fragile life can be. We’re just another family that you’ve never met that was touched by Maddie’s life.

I comment every now and then, but had to comment today. I laughed out loud at you looking for sedation for Mommy. Let me know if you find something non-alcoholic that works. My 6 month old is bringing in her top teeth right now too. I am very impressed with those pictures. I can hardly get a picture of her bottom teeth. I’m not sure I’ll be able to get anything of her top teeth, much less that good of a view. Kudos.

My younger daughter is the happiest baby I have ever known. Good sleeper, good napper, and she falls and bumps her head a million times a day with hardly a whimper (anymore–when she first got mobile, it took her a bit to get used to it). Teething, though? OH MY GOSH. She sprouts teeth two or three at a time, just like her sister did, and she will LET YOU KNOW ABOUT IT. Loudly. Continuously. For DAYS. My high-strung, wussier, older daughter took most of them in stride, like it was no big thing. I don’t get it. I hate teeth.

This exact thing happened to us back in May! Our daughter got three top teeth at once and we didn’t know what the heck her problem was and we also joked that she needed an exorcism or something!! Nothing worked for her either. We were so exhausted. And of course she got her first professional pictures taken during this time, so that was a lovely experience. Hang in there!! Chloe has more teeth now and they are nothing compared to those top teeth so you are getting the hard ones over with!
