This post and giveaway are sponsored by BabbaBox. Thanks, BabbaCo!
Annie is at that age where she wants to do everything and touch everything and she does NOT want help. But she does want my help entertaining her. I’ve pointed out this is a contradiction, but she ignores me. So I’m always on the lookout for new, interactive things for the two of us to do, and when I was approached about BabbaBox, I knew I wanted to try it.
A BabbaBox is a monthly subscription box that comes to your house full of all the goodies you need to entertain, interact, and engage with your kids. The box we received had two crafts, an activity, flashcards, and a book. The part I really appreciated was that the crafts were ready to go – I had the right amount of googly eyes, the felt was pre-cut, there was glue, etc. Everything I needed was in the box. Considering I don’t even know where my scissors are, this was huge.
I made a big deal about the box arriving, and Annie was SO EXCITED about it.
The box had the theme of “Polar Exploring,” and every activity tied into that. The first thing we did was make penguin pouches:
I liked that there were enough materials to make two pouches – that would be really important if I had more than one child at home. First Annie and I made a pouch together:
I used the opportunity to say things like, “Where should the penguins eyes go? Where are mommy’s eyes?”
Then she made one on her own (with me handing her the pieces with the glue ready to go).
The pouches were designed to hold flashcards about the Arctic and Antarctica. While we waited for the pouches to dry, I read the flashcards to Annie, and then asked her questions about the animals. I made it a game, which she loved.
(bonus – NARWHAL!)
There was also a book about penguins, which Annie LOVED. LOVED. I don’t think I can stress enough how much Annie loved the penguin book. We have read it dozens of times. She talks about it constantly. She tells strangers about the penguins. Penguins? They’re Annie’s homeboys.
Another activity that went over big was painting with ice cubes. The BabbaBox came with an ice-cube tray, popsicle sticks, food coloring, and paper. I made the cubes during nap time, so when she woke up it was time to paint (outside, though, because it was messy). Mike had Annie point to each cube and identify the colors.
“Dada, this is an iceberg. It’s where penguins live. I love penguins!”
I thought their finished products looked cool:
In all, I really like the BabbaBox. Annie was really entertained, and loved learning about the penguins, and I liked that the box was completely self-contained. As she gets older and can read, the boxes will get even better. I will definitely be signing up for more boxes!

Looks like loads of fun, too bad it’s for U.S residents only!
Love the concept, though unfortunately too pricey for my budget. I did sign up for the newsletter, though! Thanks!
Pre-cut crafts Would leav me time to actually complete the crafts.
This looks really interesting — I’m wondering if you can select the age group for your individual box, or if there is only one “type” of box each month?
I looked through the FAQs to find out this very information and the boxes are targeted at children in the 3-6 age range with an assumption that the parents will be helping during family time.
I believe you put in your child’s birthdate when you order, and they send the age-appropriate box based on that. Pretty handy! I wish they had boxes for younger children though. I think my nephew (who is just a year) would like it!
Amy W. says:
Love the idea of everything included! I am definitely tempted to try one with the 50% off code.
What a great idea! I would love this.
This looks like so much fun! I want to try it!
This would be so perfect for my two middle kids–they’re seven and five, and sometimes I just run out of steam and time to get to the store for crafts. We homeschool, and take the summers off, but I like to squeeze in some educational stuff in the summer so our brains don’t totally turn to mush! Plus my seven year old would have adored the penguin crafts; penguins are his homeboys, as well!
Super cool, I think I will get this for my granddaughters. Hope I win the drawing too! As a side note, I love the braids on Annie!
I like that the activities are ready out of the box. I love to do crafty things with my daughter, but often get sidetracked while trying to put the materials all together.
What a great idea! My 4-year-old niece just LOVES mail! This is a great way to get mail, projects, books, and FUN all in one box! Thanks for sharing!
I love that everything you need is included and that there are a variety of types of activities in the box. That 50% off code is tempting…
Diane B. says:
My almost 5 yr old loved doing ice cube painting at preschool. We’re going to have to continue that over the summer. I do really like the idea of the BabbaBox. Not sure I’d spend quite that much, but it’s a great idea.
And hey! Your bday is the day after mine–by about 10 years! EEK!!!
Leah K. says:
Wow, I love these! I love that all of the necessary supplies are in the box and it’s kind of a mystery as to what fun activities you’ll receive. What I like most of all is the learning involved!
Lacey Sanders says:
Love this idea! I have a 2 year old boy and 4 year old girl. Andrew is always wanting to do whatever Caitlin is doing. . . this can be interesting with things like crafts. I love that this has two sets of everything – I’d be covered! And a bonus, there is learning involved!
Donna May says:
Wow! looks awesome – just in time for summer. Loved that it comes with age appropriate activities. I’d love it for my grandchildren!
Jennifer D says:
Signed up for their newsletter. The boxes look super fun, and I know my 2 year old would love it!
That is amazing! C LOVES penguings too… Has Annie seen happy feet? LOL. I would love to win the Babbabox, and I am so tempted to try oneout for half off!
The whole time I read your post today I was thinking of my best friend Malisa and her daughter Julianna. Malisa and I met 6 years ago through the mitochondrial disease community. You see, I would not have my diagnosis or amazing metabolic specialist without her guidance and I truly believe I would not have as rich a life without her friendship. We will forever be what we call “butterfly sisters”, as since we live so very far apart and cannot visit one another much because of our medical circumstances, because we can always find a butterfly whose wings we can use to send messages of love and support to one another on.
Malisa is so amazing that words truly can’t describe her. She is bedbound from mito and has been for over 3 years. She actually became bedbound while her daughter was growing inside her surrogate. That beautiful baby girl (whom I am proud to be her Auntie Sher) is now 3 years old. Julianna is bright, imaginative, senstive, compassionate and inquisitive…all attributes that I believe her mother and father have instilled in her as they have helped her to grow into an amazing little girl. Malisa literally parents from bed…all of it…she does it. She amazes me with the creative ways she enables herself to be immersed in her daughter’s life, despite not being able to leave the house with her. Often times they literally bring the outdoors in, so that as a family, they can experience a picnic, the beach, or even most recently a crazy Menthos/Coke experiement (yes, indoors) together.
So, as I read of the adventures that would be brought into their home from the BabbaBox, I knew I had to find a way to purchase one for them. I did sign up for the newsletter and I am going to see if a couple of our friends will go in with me on the year long membership. Thank-you for writing about BabbaBox and helping me to bring excitement and creativity to my friend and her daughter from distance.
P.S. If you would like to learn more about Malisa and hear about her amazing life in her own words please check out her Caringbridge website at http://www.caringbridge.org/pa/malisa
Looks like a neat idea! My daughter would love it. Its a little more than I can spend now. I might do the 50% off deal.
Omg I love it! My older son would adore this, and it would be a special activity that we could do when his baby brother is napping. I’m excited about the 50% off code!!
This sounds great. I think I’m going to pass on the contest, since my LO is a bit too little for many craft activities yet, but I’ll definitely keep this in mind for the future (we used to subscribe to Citrus Lane, so my daughter definitely loves surprise boxes ;).
Thanks for the tip!
Marin D says:
Hm, that sounds fun. My girls would love getting something in the mail for them! I love that everything is ready to go. I always plan something to do with my girls and I am always missing something. My 5 year old still asks when we are going to sew her purse – two months later because I keep forgetting to get the final component. LOL!
Elizabeth Filip says:
I love the craft supplies included. We never do anything because I am not personally “crafty” and I feel bad because the kids LOVE it at school. I also like the theme, to give some direction and variety during the summer.
Leigh Elliott says:
Oh I LOVE this idea!!! Do you know how many pompom’s I have in my “craft bin” more like “giant plastic tub so full of junk I am afraid to open it”!
Kids LOVE to get mail, and nothing beats a PACKAGE! I would love this on so many levels but best of all – everything you need for the craft is there. I love finding new crafts to do with my daughter but once I put the magazine down that I saw said craft in, it’s rare that my idea actually makes it to the craft store.
Just signed up for the newsletter! Thanks for giving one away! FUN!
Jennifer Dawn says:
My daughter would love this!! We are huge penguin fans around here. Kinda pricey for our budget, but this has me very intrigued.
Wow, what an amazing idea! I was just thinking the other day as I was running around Michael’s looking for craft items for my daughter that it would be awesome to have a activity theme with educational info, stories and crafts to do every so often, especially in the summer when she isn’t in school. I love how the Babba Box gives you many different tools to learn and explore, my daughter would love it. I think when the grandparents start asking about birthday and xmas gift ideas I’m going to point them towards Babba Box.
OH! I could really use something like this right now! I have a 5 year old autistic son and we just moved into an apartment. We are both going stir crazy and I’m finding it hard to keep him entertained. There isn’t much to do outside and it’s so hot out. If only a box of entertainment would show up at my door!
Casie C. says:
A bit pricey, but I love that they include books. Incorporating literacy is really important and this gives reading a fresh spin!
Stacy Trimble says:
Love that it even has enough activities for BOTH my kiddos!
I’m always looking for new, fun, and educational ways to entertain the kiddo. I know she would LOVE this! Too bad I’m not made of money. It’s a little on the pricey side.
Great idea! Just signed up for the newsletter! Y haven’t I thought of somehting like this
Now *I* want to read that book about penguins. :). I love that it is delivered right to your door. My son loves getting a package in the mail even more than I do.
i signed up for the newsletter and i love how everything is ready and perfect for small kids with short attention spans
I think this sounds awesome, and since my daughter has surgery 0n her face and can’t get a lot of sun, this would be an enriching way to pass the day! I like how the books tie in with activities!
liz b says:
i signed up for the newsletter and this is such a cool idea! it’s like pinterest crafts but you dont have to go shopping to put it all together!
sara m says:
Wow, these are a great idea! My three year old is a huge penguin fan right now too!
I also love that it includes everything you need!
Definitely a very neat idea! I signed up for the newsletter too. I think receiving packages in the mail is 1/2 the fun. I also really like that the crafts are ready made too and think that this would be great for the summer time. Our nanny would sure appreciate that the crafts were ready to go right from the box. Thanks for showing us such a cool product!
I love the concept and it would be great for my youngest. I might give it a try with the 50% off code. I did sign up for the newsletter. It’s a bit pricey for my budget right now but a good idea for a birthday gift
I have tried another service and loved it. But eventually it got repepetitive. I am hoping this won wont. Love giving these as babys shower gifts. Birthday, Kindergarten teacher gifts.
But most of would love to win one for my sweet awesome, craft, talented awesome lovely daughter, Ava Z’Ann Nicayla Xavia _______.
What a cool idea!!
This would be perfect for my kids (2 & 5). I love that everything is in the box and you don’t have to worry about cutting things out. I can’t even draw a straight line with a ruler, so this is perfect for the craft-challenged moms.
Great idea. Love the “theme” and the different activities to support it. I have a 2 and 4 year old and they both would love it.
I think my kiddos would love this!
I love that there’s a theme to everything in the box. My daughter would love it!
I love the idea of getting to sit down with my child and do this. He loves all sorts of crafts.
This would be a fun activity for both of my girls to do together. And getting them excited for the box to arrive could be pretty fun too. They LOVE to get mail.
When I saw that all the pieces were included, you got me hooked! I have 2 toddlers and while I have good intentions, don’t get around to doing as many crafts with them as I’d like. I usually don’t have the right materials or time to cut/prepare things so this sounds great! I signed up for the newsletter and will definitely be talking to hubby about it later on. Thanks for the info!

everything sunds cool-love learnig –I am a teacher
I love that everything is in the box, as I too cannot find my scissors…or glue…or paper…in fact, where is my book on crafts for kids?
It’s all nicely prepared for you so the thought is taken out of the planning process. Who doesn’t love entertainment delivered to their doorstep ready to go??! My daugther would adore this box!!
Great Idea!! I have a 3 year old and a 10 month old. This would be such a great thing for my 3 year old and I to do. I don’t have enough time in the day for all the stuff I want to do with him and this would make it so much easier do to arts and crafts! Thanks for sharing this.
This is a great idea! I love crafting and have lots of craft supplies; however, I spend more time trying to find and gather what I need than actually making something. Everything coming ready in one box is fantastic!
This sounds great! I love a craft and activity, and of someone else goes thru the prep and creates the theme? Fantastic!!!!
I like that each box could be good for several age groups. My kids are 9, 7, and 4, but it seems like they all could interact with this box. Cool!!
Heidi T says:
I love that the kids are actually learning while they craft!
Linda Stewart says:
The boxes are age appropriate so that a child doesn’t become overwhelmed with the projects included.
Christine D. says:
This sounds awesome!!! I try to be crafty with my toddler, but am all left brained, to have something monthly that gets us more artsy would be awesome!! And I love that they are age appropriate!
Amy J says:
My bitty loves crafts. And penguins.
What a great idea! I love that all the supplies are included. My boys love crafts but I hate gathering all the materials.
Love this idea! My boys have to be entertained CONSTANTLY or else my sanity pays the price. Def tempted to try, esp with the 50% off offer. Thanks for sharing:)
my kid loves packages. i love him to learn about things as he’s playing. sounds like a win-win for us!
A great idea! I think my kids would like getting mail just as much as using what’s in the box!
this is such a cute idea! my daughters love activities — and love mail!! thanks for sharing!
We love reading in our house so I love that the craft projects come with a similar themed book. This is such a great idea. I’m going to share this with the grandparents as a birthday gift idea.
very cool idea
My daughter loves doing activities and crafts…this looks like so much fun. I like that EVERYTHING for the activity is included in the box. So you don’t have to waste time cutting things and can just jump right into the activity.
What a great idea! I love that everything in the box has a theme.
I signed up for the newsletter…What a cute idea. It looks like I’m going to be a stay-at-home mom to my 3-year-old daughter for a while starting in October (when I’m 32 weeks pregnant, no less), so this would be an awesome thing for us to look forward to each month!
I love that they include a book with each box. Reading is so important and we’re constantly looking for new books for Grey.
Gabby Zarate says:
I love this idea especially during the summer time when parents find themselves pulling their hairs out when there is nothing left to do with the kiddos…
Thanks Heather for mentioning this
I am not a crafty person. Lord, do I wish I was a crafty person. I also work fulltime. Once my son gets a bit older, this will be a GREAT resource for doing craft projects together. He doesn’t need to know I’m not SuperMom yet, right?…
As one of the least crafty moms out there – I look at pinterest and wish I could be that creative this would be perfect to use with my 2 1/2 year old son!
This is like most awesome invention ever! I’m always looking for fun play date ideas, this is perfect!
What a great idea!!
I love this idea – how great to have all the items you need all gathered and pre-cut!
I love this idea. my daughter is 3 and sometimes I am at a loss how to keep her entertained. (and yes, I subscribed)
Shannon B says:
I’m so not a crafter. What a brilliant idea, having a craft all set up and ready to go!
A no-excuses chance to craft with me kids sounds just about perfect for me! I love the concept and think I’d love making the stuff as much (if not more) as my kids!
Lisa J says:
Oooooooooh! I LIKE!!!! Fabulous, Heather! Hope I win.
would love to try it with my little one.
Looks awesome! I’d love to try the crafts with my daughter.
Jamie Parker says:
I signed up for the newsletter. I live that everything is included for the crafts so I don’t have to worry about getting all the right stuff.
The penguin box looks like it would be interesting for both my 3 and 7 year olds, and I love the gratitude box that they show as a sample box on their website.
Jenn S says:
what i like best about it is that it comes with *everything* you need…no hunting around!!!
So fun!! No having to go to the store and rummaging for things. A great idea that everyone can look forward to each month.
this would be great for my grandkids. I am watching them this summer and to have something to do each month would be great
Megan Coates says:
Your daughter is so adorable! She seems so smart at her age. It’s nice to know that she has developed such fondness to animals.
What a cool idea! My son will be at the age soon where we can do crafts together. My mom was super crafty with us growing up, and I was worried about if/how I would be able to do that with my son since it isn’t exactly second nature for me. This would certainly help!!
Alejandra Hernandez says:
I have 2 little girls and this would be great to teach and entertain them. Love that every thing is all ready to be made. Pick me!
This looks great for my little family! Thanks!
I just subscribed to the newsletter. What a great idea! I love how comprehensive the boxes are. I think my daughter would flip if she received a box like this monthly, she loves crafts!
Signed up for the newsletter! This sounds like so much fun.. I love how everything comes all pre-cut/measured and ready to go. Great for busy moms and I know my son would love to try this!
I signed up for the newsletter. It looks awesome and I know my daughter would love it, but it’s a bit expensive.
That looks freakin’ incredible!!! How did I miss this post earlier?!?! I love that they send you everything you need!!! Awesome!!! And Annie looks like she had a blast…
And who doesn’t love penguins? Yay Annie!
