I wanted to do something nice for a stranger this year, and after talking with Mike and our family, we thought doing something for a reader was the way to go.
You all are amazingly supportive and awesome, and to thank you for caring about my little family I am giving away $250 gift card to either Amazon.com or Target – the winner can choose.

my husband has been out of work for three years and we just found out our two year old is hearing impaired in both ears. Coming out of my lurkiness (I’ve been a reader for about 3 years now… yours is the only blog I follow regularly anymore and you guys are just as much a part of my daily routine as reading the news and checking the weather!) to say that this is such a nice thing for you to do.
I have become a Pinterest addict, and last week I saw the most wonderful idea that I would love to be able to do, but just can’t afford it this year. They are called Blessing Bags; just simple ziplocs filled with things like soap, tootbrushes, combs, snacks, mittens, and a letter of encouragment and/or holiday wishes to have in your car, ready to hand out to those in need this season. I’d also love to have a few of these bags with some puppy treats, maybe a dog sweater, and small bag of dog food for those who have their best furry friend with them.
I got laid off almost 3 years ago now and our budget is very tight this year. I can’t really afford to get presents for my family or for my husband, but I have been trying to make things instead. I would love to be able to extend that to people even more in need, those who do not have families or homes to go to this holiday season…. even if it’s just a small bag of supplies and a little bit of hope.

We are victims of the housing bubble…. we refinanced our house to pay for a wedding in 2007, and now we owe more $30k than its worth. We had to move across the country for my job, and now we are renting it out. Two mortage payments are killing us, and we can’t rent for what we owe each month. Our renters just left without notice. I have a sticky complex too! I can only imagine how difficult it will be when a kid arrives. Some of my favorite memories growing up we’re baking with my mom. Keep it up, Annie will treasure it!

That’s a very kind thing to do. I want for very little, so I would donate it to a local women’s shelter. Trust that they need it more than I do.
There’s is a shelter in Columbus, Ohio called “Dressed for Success”. They provide disadvantaged men and women business attire and functional job training so they can get a job and get ahead. I have donated business suits in perfectly good condition which either don’t fit or I’ve simply grown tired of. (Don’t snobby-frown at me, I buy my own business suits from eBay.)
If there were ever a good charity, that one is it.
