We are huge movie-fans in this house, so Awards Season is always extra-fun for us. We love watching the nominees on the red carpet. We look forward to the different hosts’ jokes and jabs. We also enjoy having friends and family over to watch along and, of course, eat! You know I love a good party, so here are some quick and easy tips to throw a great awards night shindig.
~ Decor
I try to keep the decor pretty simple, since everyone’s attention will mostly be on the television. Still, a few little touches here and there will help set the tone. You can greet your guests with a “red carpet” by laying out a large swath of red fabric or a red plastic tablecloth. Party stores often have novelty trophies that you can buy and place around the party area. I like to do a quick Google Image search for movie posters from the different nominated films, then print them and hang them up around the party. Quick and easy!
~ Pick The Winners
It’s always fun to have ballots for your guests to let them pick the winners. The official websites for all of the awards shows have printable ballots you can hand out to your guests when they arrive. Or, you can change it up and have your guests make guesses on which star will be best-dressed, who will have the strangest tux, or the least-flattering hair style. Remember those novelty trophies you used to decorate? Hand them out to your winning guests!
~ Popcorn Bar
Movies and popcorn go hand-in-hand! I love having a selection of popcorn flavors for my guests to choose from. These yummy varieties from Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Naturals are my go-to (the Simply Salted and Garlic Butter are definitely worth a try). To dress-up the presentation, you can use individual popcorn bags (like these from amazon) or go to your local movie theatre and get empty XL-size popcorn tubs, then put out scoops and bowls so people can serve themselves.
~ Punny Food and Drinks
Thinking of funny food and drinks based on the year’s crop of nominated films is one of our favorite ways to party prep. This year we’ve come up with:
American Mussels (in honor of American Hustle)
Dallas Buyer’s Club Sandwiches (in honor of Dallas Buyer’s Club)
HER-shey’s kisses (In honor of Her)
Frozen Margaritas (In honor of Frozen)
Capt’n Phillips Crunch (In honor of Captain Phillips)
Phil-Lo Mein-A (In honor of Philomena)
Have fun and remember, it’s an honor just to be nominated!

A lot of the dollar stores have plastic popcorn containers that look like bags. They are fun and reusable!
