James has been eating solids for the last few months, and no one is happier about this than Rigby. The dog is crazy about babies learning to eat, and plants herself firmly at the feet of the newb eater. As you may remember, Rigby is wild about the baby finger food Puffs, and she comes running whenever we serve them to James. James will do anything to win Rigby’s affection, and he just figured out that the way to Rigby’s heart is through her stomach.

Rigby is going to be so sad when James decides he doesn’t want to share.

This brings back such fond memories!
We had a big blonde Lab and he was tall enough that when little hands put food out he could just gently take it from them. He especially loved the early self feeding with fromage frais as although my daughter was always given a spoon it seemed much easier to use her fingers, and he sat by her as her own personal finger washer!
I love the relationship kids build for themselves with their dogs.

So cute! My oldest son is 22 months and when he’s finished eating he likes to take handfuls of anything left and throw it to our dog. We have to watch to make sure it’s doggy safe but he thinks it’s hilarious.
Steph says:
Oh, so cute. Our family’s favorite Spohr video is what we call the “I found a puff” (although it is named “When the Cat’s Away..” Whenever we unexpectedly find something good, we say “Ooooh I found a puff!” Thanks for posting!
Chelsea says:
That is my all-time favorite moment of my all-time favorite spoor video!
Chelsea says:
SPOHR! Sorry!
Missy K says:
That is my absolute FAVORITE video. I have watched it over & ove & over and still laugh myself silly each time. LOVE!
Chris says:
My baby is the same age as James, and he does the exact same thing with the puffs. Our dog wasn’t around when my older 3 were babies. He thinks that Jack eating solids is the best thing ever, cleaning up puffs and anything else he can get to!

I had no idea how much food my kids dropped to the floor until we had a period between when our old dog died and we got a new one. I was suddenly baffled by how I had to sweep my floor multiple times a day due to the amount of food that was on the floor, that previously my darling Daphne would take care of for me. Nothing warms my heart like kids and their puppies.
Meg says:
YES. For two and a half long years I lived with roommates with only cats, having always lived with a dog, and I was completely shocked that cats don’t clean. How do people with kids live without a furry wet-dry vacuum?! I have so many memories of my brother in his high chair with our dog sitting patiently next to it, just waiting for all the food he’d drop/throw/sweep/etc — she usually caught it in the air before it even hit the floor.
Kerri says:
HA! Furry wet-dry vacuums…that sums them up precisely.

I call our toy poodle a roomba – she sneaks around the kitchen and the table and night and gets every little piece of anything off the floor. We also have a big dog, but he pretty much sticks to eating the little dog’s food. And I just put it together…
Paula says:
Right at the end? That smile and look? Pure Maddie.
I loved where Rigby was trying so hard to stretch taller just to get that puff from James. He was enjoying it as well but loved the look on his face when some fell off the highchair and he was like “What? Wait! I wasn’t ready!” LOL!
Glenda says:
awww… Rigby is like on her tippy toes (paws) inching… gotta get that last puff…
how old is Rigby now?
have a great weekend!
Heather says:
She’s 9, I can’t believe it!
Jeanie says:
I love those two! And Annie, of course.
Victoria says:
His little dance at the end reminded me of Maddie dancing. He’s adorable!

Puffs! I live in the land of the Mormons, who as you may know have many kids. More than one nice, clean livin’ Mormon has told me Puffs are “baby crack” in church, and that the babies react to the sound of the can and the rattle of the Puffs. This always made me giggle when I served them to my kids.
