I tell all my friends that are new parents that the first six weeks are so hard, but there is a light at the end of it. After those six weeks, your baby is awake more, makes eye contact, and starts to act like a person. It is awesome. And soon after that, your baby starts to smile. That’s when most parents become circus performers, doing everything they can to make that baby grin.

And then, just when you think the smiles couldn’t get any better, something magical happens – your baby starts to laugh. The first time, you will say, “was that a laugh?” The second time you say, “I’m pretty sure she’s laughing!” and then every time after that you will scream and shriek until your husband is like OMG I GET IT SHE IS LAUGHING, I AM STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU.

It’s pretty amazing.

It is now my mission in life to make Annabel laugh.

The best part about her laugh is that it sounds so much like Madeline’s. It is a comfort when I hear Annie’s happiness and I can remember Madeline’s. I smile, and I tear up, and I close my eyes and image the two of them laughing together.

Hey LA Peeps – Annie is going to be on the KTLA morning news between 8:30am and 10am! Be sure to tune in. For the rest of you, check back later in the day, I will post a video clip. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that she doesn’t barf on camera!
