With Mother’s Day next weekend, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I really want for Mother’s Day. Or more specifically, what I am going to give my mom and Mike’s mom. Our mothers want for nothing, so really the perfect gift for them are photos.
Together with HP, my photo partners, we’ve come up with some fun, sweet, and moving ideas for the perfect photo collection to give to your mom (or the mother of your children)!
– A photo that captures her child’s personality
This isn’t really hard for me – my girls have personality to spare:
– A photo of her kids being affectionate
Probably the last time my brother and I hugged. And I’m not sure a picture of Mike hugging his sister exists.
Nonetheless, this is one of my mom’s favorite photos, because dang we are adorable.
– A photo of herself as a little girl
I love finding pictures where I look like my daughters. A collage of these would definitely make my mom smile.
– A photo of her child with his/her father
Some of my favorite pictures are of my husband with our girls.

Love these ideas for Mother’s Day! (Long time reader, first time commenter) Just wanted to say that I love the pictures you post of your Maddie. She is always smiling! It is devastating what happened but looking at the pictures of her so happy all. the. time. makes me believe that she lived life and loved life so much! Makes me smile too!

Look how giant those pop cans are in your little hands!!!
Too adorable.

I totally laughed-out-loud (with a big smile on my face) at the identical photos of you, Maddie and Annie! Too cute! And your mom would definitely love these. That photo comparison of you and Maddie as babies holding your soda cans is AWESOME! =D

I love that these ideas focus on the kind of picture and not a special way of developing or displaying them. Thanks for the great ideas!

i’m loving these photography posts/tips. i’ve used several of the suggestions and i know my husband is very glad that i’m reading these seeing as though i just ordered a new camera and didn’t tell him until after the fact (hehehe!!!!).
just wondering if you have any suggestions for the following…
1. how do you get good pictures of YOU? i really want some awesome, candid shots of my son and i, but anyone i’ve asked to take some pictures just doesn’t do that great of a job with both composition and/or actual shot. i have plenty of blurry pictures of us. then i feel bad asking them to keep taking shot after shot.
2. is there any way, without having to hire a cleaning lady or set up my own special “set” to leave all the background crap out of my pictures? i have some great pictures of my son, but there always seems to be junk in the background that distracts…lamp cords, toys, papers, ugh, the list goes on. i think i’d even be okay if some of that stuff was at least out of focus, but i don’t know how to do that.
so, if you have any ideas i’d love to hear them..reading your posts and seeing your photos is so inspiring.
