I love parties. Throwing them, attending them, and of course, photographing them. If you’re going to photograph a celebration, you really want to make sure that you capture the whole thing, from start to finish. If you’re throwing the party, include pictures of the preparation all the way to the last guest leaving. You (and the guest of honor) will love being able to look back on the event and remember every tiny detail.
Recently I was one of four hosts for my friend Dana’s baby shower. I’m pretty proud of how the pictures really tell the story of the whole party.
From the food and table decorations…
…to the mama-to-be showing off her fabulous bump…
…to, of course, the opening of presents while the excited aunt looked on.
The unposed shots are what show the spontaneous moments, but we also set up a fun photo area for the guests to get silly.
Even Grandma got in on the fun!
And of course, no baby shower would be complete without games and activities:
I really embraced the natural light that poured through the house, and was able to get amazingly lit shots. I also used fun angles, like the first picture of the food, or this one of the beverages:
Experiment and snap tons of pictures – you’re guaranteed to get amazing photos that will be cherished for years. And of course – HAVE FUN!

I want to see what the guests came up with on what the baby will look like.
You take awesome photos. Wanna come with us when Joey goes on his Wish trip to take photos of our experience?

Love these pics!! I LOVE detail shots- the decorations, invites, presents, etc. OF COURSE the people too, but it is so fun to look back at all the little moments of special days. They usually go by so fast that you miss all of those things!!

Hi Heather, Im a long-time reader of your awesome blog and I think you are great!!! I just read your Baby Shower post and love the “Guess Who Baby Will Look Like” game. My best friend’s baby shower is next month and Im trying to come up with some sort of entertainment/game for it. If you could let me know how it is done/how it works, Id really appreciate it. Thanks so much! -Kelly

sure! You need a pictures of the dad and of the mom. Get scissors, glue sticks, double-sided tape, and a sheet of paper for them to glue their creations on. Just tell the guests to let their imaginations go wild. The results were hilarious!

I’m always taking photos (and videos) at birthday’s/babyshowers. Especially of the decorations, and the party table. I think the details are just as important as the party. I mean what’s a party without decorations, right…? ;o)
LOVE the “Who will the baby look like” game, with the photos! Too cool.
