We went to a soda shop last week (I was craving an egg cream) and Annie saw this strawberries and cream soda in the cooler. She begged for it, and even though I knew she wouldn’t like it we bought it for her. I popped a straw in it when we got home and sure enough, this was the face she made after getting a taste. She didn’t like the carbonation. Hopefully this experience will keep her away from soda and her Daddy’s Diet Coke stash for many, many years.
Alison says:
The son doesn’t like carbonation either and never has. Now, at eight, he will drink the occasional fountain drink and some root beer, but really hates the feeling of the bubbles in most pops.
Christine says:
My son is the same way, hates the carbonation. He is 7 and refuses to drink soda which is fine with me.

My 11 year old still does not like carbonation either. I am so happy because my 8 year old would drink any soda anywhere, anytime. Keep reminding her how much she didn’t like it and maybe she will be brainwashed into thinking that all soda is yucky.
Pattie says:
I hope my daughter doesn’t get hooked on soda someday, either. My sister is the only person I know who never, ever drinks any sodas. I don’t think she drinks anything carbonated, in fact. I envy her.
Tracy says:
What is an egg cream?
Jackie says:
I was also wondering what an egg cream was. Guess I could Google it. I LOVE pop! Yes, I’m a Michigander!

Maybe this link will help explain? Not sure if its the same but sounds about right?
Mike says:
That’s an egg cream, all right! Heather got a taste for them when she lived in New York.
Heather says:
Yep! It’s basically a chocolate milk soda. You either love them or you think they are totally disgusting.
Auntie_M says:
That is a great face!!!!!
Kim says:
When Amelia was about that age we had the same experience. She looked at me and said, “I don’t like that spicy water”. She is now 6 1/2 and still doesn’t love soda. She will take water over anything any day of the week. I love it.
Sarah says:
My son hates carbonation as well. As a recovering Coca-cola addict, I rejoice. My daughter, unfortunately, seems to like the burn of the bubbles…
Kate says:
My 19 month old son made a similar face yesterday when I gave him some hot (warm) cocoa after playing out in the snow for a half an hour. I’m not sure he’s my son…
JP Martin says:
My kids were well past Kindergarten when we introduced them to pop (That’s what we call soda in Canada). Both spit it out saying that it was too “spicy”. Thankfully at 7 and 10, they aren’y big fans and think that apple juice is more of a treat (also something they don’t give them every day).
Mommy says:
We have a no soda rule in our house, but we were out to lunch with the grandparents recently and my 4 year old asked to try his grandpa’s “black sparkly water”. He made the same face as Annie and now tells me that soda burns his nose- I hope I can keep him away from it for many years because I was very addicted to soda for a long time! I know, I know, everything in moderation, but for me, I had to just go cold turkey. Now if I even have a sip of soda or coffee, I’m cracked out for hours! It’s awesome.
