Four years ago, I took Maddie with me to vote. Today, I will take Annie with me.
(I am voting to re-elect President Obama, and this is why.)
Whether you are voting similarly, or voting for Mr. Romney, the most important thing is that you VOTE and respect everyone’s right to do the same.
Vote! Vote! Vote!

amanda says:
Love her forever.
Connie says:
Well, I should have figured with you all living in Cali…but I held out hope. I’ll still read because your Annie is too cute for words but I can’t say I’m not disappointed.
Allison says:
I am disappointed that you had to make a negative comment. Not cool!
Heather says:
I’d vote for him regardless of where I lived, actually. Thank you for reading an the compliments about Annie!
Darcie says:
Because living in California automatically makes you a liberal. I too would vote to reelect President Obama and while I do live in California and I was born and raised in Mississippi!
STEPHANIE PADILLA SALGADO says:
I live in Texas & I VOTED Obama..
Molly says:
Lovely lovely Maddie. I’m sorry November is so tough. Warmest congratulations on that little bean in your belly and on bringing Annie with you to the polls. My husband just left to “go voting” with my daughter as well. Here’s to four more years!
Ninabi says:
Yes. Yes. Yes. I agree with what you wrote. The change in health care law made such a difference for one of my adult kids. There are a lot of young adults who are working hard, but at jobs that don’t provide health insurance. Among my group, we have kids who have had seizures, lymphoma and bone tumors. “Pre-existing conditions” is a frightening term that I would love to see eliminated but with the ACA, things are better.
What a dear picture of Maddie. I’ll be thinking about her- and you- on this voting day.
Jessica S says:
I love this picture! I love your post! Exercise that right and go vote! Annie will be excellent company!
Casey says:
Love this picture! Babies for Barack!!
Rebecca says:
I’m with you 100%. I hope that Obama can come back for another term.
Sara says:
I wasn’t reading your blog then, but what an adorable pic!
alex says:
I cast my vote in Florida! I hope he not only wins Florida but wins re-election. We all should have equal rights and the opportunity to have healthcare
Lamb says:
LOVE that photo! Your Obama post made some excellent points too. Perhaps we’ll have a photo of Annie tomorrow, celebrating the President’s win!
Becca says:
Barack the vote, yo!
Also – just a pitch but if you’re from Maine – Vote Yes on 1!!!
Angela says:
From a Canadian neighbour – yay voting!
Erin says:
OMG I wish that I had that onesie for Stella to wear when we make our way to the polling place today!
sue says:
Beautiful, beautiful Maddie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Lisa says:
I personally could not vote for a person who does not allow for a womens right to choose. And insurance companies declined you for THAT? Well, the last time I checked there are millions of people that take anti-depressants- that have not had a child die. Shame on them for doing that to you!! I loooved seeing Maddie today. And man do people get their panties in a bunch when politics is the topic- sheeeesh!
Peace, love, hapiness, and BARACK!
Kari says:
I was reading your blog back then… Hard to believe 4 years has gone by. Maddie is precious beyond words.
Here’s to four more years!
Jean says:
I wish you wouldn’t post political commentary. Of course, it’s your blog and it seems the majority of your readers share your opinions. It’s partly my fault for clicking the link to your article. Like yourself, I have very strong opinions but I try not to share them with those I know disagree – it just seems to be futile. I don’t think I will read your blog anymore which makes me sad, I have enjoyed watching Annie grow up – she is an amazing girl! I know that’s no big loss for you, but for some weird reason, I felt I needed to say in a way, goodbye.
Heather says:
I respect your opinions, I am sorry that you can’t respect mine. I’ve enjoyed having you as a reader, and I wish you well.
Karen says:
Yeah, because we wouldn’t want to expose ourselves to the experiences of people who view the world differently than we do. Sheesh. Rather than consider the real-world experiences that have led Heather to support one political candidate over another, you walk away when faced when someone who doesn’t agree with you. No one says you need to agree with her, but it seems pretty passive aggressive to post just long enough to say, “I don’t agree with you, but I won’t give any discussion, I’ll just go away and not come back.” And to say it as if she did something WRONG by sharing how she and her family have been impacted by public policies espoused by the candidates…
I don’t always agree with Heather–and I’ve posted before, commenting when and why I disagree–but she’s done nothing wrong in publicizing her family’s experiences and the impact they have had on her voting choices.
Beth says:
What a jerk! Do you really think that this post is the time and place for you to slam someone for expressing an opinion? Shame on you, for looking at Maddie’s beautiful face and not rising above your urge to made someone feel bad for having a thought you disagree with. ON HER OWN BLOG.
Sharon says:
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I wish I had seen your article about why you voted Obama earlier, I just had an incredibly heated argument with someone who could greatly benefit from your eloquence.
Wishing you and your family all the best.
Kymmi says:
Oh, Maddie – I miss her so much yet never really knew her, beyond her pictures/videos. My heart still clenches at the site of her, but also still swells – she taught me so much. I wish you could have both of your girls with you.
I will always remember Maddie.
Amanda says:
I really enjoyed your post on babble, so much that I shared it on my FB page. I was really sorry that my husband’s aunt replied with such a negative and (I feel) disrespectful comment. I wanted to apologize for that.
Also, congrats on your pregnancy! I’m so incredibly happy for you and your family.
