Photo Crafts For Indoor Days

I’ve been thinking about all my pals and readers that are snowed in all over the place, and I feel sorry for them. First, because it’s a beach day where I live (ha ha) and second because I cannot imagine having to entertain stir-crazy children. So I am going to show you one of my fun photo crafts that will hopefully help you pass at least an hour’s worth of time.

What can I say, I’m a giver.

For this you’re going to need some printed out photos, scissors, and tape or a glue stick.

Rainy Day Crafts

These sort of things work best if you have a full-body shot of a person. I went through my photos (my photos are the only meticulously organized things in my house) and found the perfect photo of Mike:

If you don’t have a full body shot and you have a photo printer at home, spend a few minutes getting silly full-body action shots. Bonus – it helps tire out the kids!

Next, take your scissors and cut out the person in the photo:

Keep going until the person is completely cut out:

Next, you find some photos that have cool backgrounds. I picked pictures from when Mike, Annie, and I went to San Francisco, and I printed those up.

*non-crucial tip – if you have the ability and option, print the picture of the person on 4×6 photo paper, and the background on 5×7 photo paper. It makes the person “fit” better. You’ll see what I mean in a sec.*

Now grab those photo backgrounds and your tape or glue. Double-sided tape is easiest, but any tape will do. Hey, that rhymed!

Rainy Day Crafts

Take the tape or glue and put it on the back of the cut-out person. Then, place them on your background picture wherever you decide is best:

I liked the way Mike’s hand stuck up over the top of the photo in that scene, but I thought that this photo looked cooler:

He’s a giant!!! Look at that tiny man at his feet!

Once you have your creations, display them proudly in your house. I taped mine to our computer, so Mike can always be reminded of the time he was a giant:

Have fun creating!

You, my friend, are a very good cutter! I, on the other hand, SUCK at cutting. So this would never work for me!

This is so awesome! we just went on a trip to Australia for six weeks so will be making ourselves look giant over the next few days!
Love your scissor handling skills – I am not that talented! I would have for sure lopped off Mikes hand!

PS Love that on your screen where the pic is taped to you have CNN news tab open and next to that is Celebrity Gossip!! Go girl!!

See you must have a whole lot more patience than I do because your cutting skills are amazing…….I would have cut off a foot and various other zig zag cuts and such…..

Cool!

So jealous it’s a beach day for you!:) I live 2 blocks from the beach & there is a foot of snow on the ground. I live for the beach but won’t be able to be on it until May. :( Stupid seasons here in NYC. Enjoy your great weather for me:)

my kids would love doing this….but I can tell it would be ME who did all the intricate cutting…not because they wouldn’t want to do it…but because I would want it done “right” — I’m no fun to do crafts with because I end up saying “Oh….give me that, let me do it for you real quick…” too much!

Very fun thing to do!! Might I add to use photo safe tape… sorry I’m a scrapbooker and tape matters to me! LOL

Awesome! And perfectly fine homebound craft for those of us who dwell in supremely hot places in the summer and would rather be raked naked over broken glass than venture outdoors past noon.

I love this idea! My daughter is still too young for this but it would be a perfect thing to do as a gift for my hubby for Valentine’s Day. He would love nothing more than to look like a giant in a picture. I so wish I was kidding. Men are weird. le sigh

Awesome idea! I need to do stuff like that. :) You have snow, we’ve got floods.

This is *perfect* for us, and we live in Texas, where every day is a different season! Last weekend it rained, sleeted, and snowed…and this weekend it’s 70! Whatever the season, our kids are skittish. After 4 kids and 2 weeks with rotavirus, and my husband being laid off from his job only three days after my first time as a stay-at-home Mom, we’re *all* in need of something to do!!

What a fun idea! It’s snowing to beat the band here. We’re under a winter storm watch until 11:00 tonight. This will be a fun activity to keep my boy and myself occupied. :)

Similarly, I have a framed photo of my husband and myself at the Great Wall of China.

We have never been to China.

I live in one of those states that is in the path of a “historical” storm. I thought of you last night when I was packing up leftovers for the week (because there is a good chance we will be on power outages this week).

Did you ever try new recipes? Do people on beach-y states eat winter comfort foods? I made crock pot roast with gravy and veggies last night. It was awesome, and the husband loved it. Google “Lipton onion soup cream of mushroom soup crock pot roast”. The bonus for you is the veggies for Annie. It’s a one pot meal where you can easily freeze half.

I love comfort foods! We do get “cold” here. But I always like rich and hearty foods and I LOVE pot roast! I will google this right now, thanks for the tip!

For those not-so-good cutters, use an xacto knife. (Good for adults and older kids.)

Also, I do this sort of thing with my pets’ photos. So don’t just limit it to people! Pets are also fair game!

That’s a fabulous idea. I think I’ll put mine on popsicle sticks and make puppets. I can imagine them popping up in the pantry and medicine cabinet for a good laugh.

Yes, we’re getting a lot of snow where I’m from. This is such a cool photo craft idea! Thanks for this. ;o)
