But in terms of its merits as a photo…to be honest, I’m not loving it. (And normally, I wouldn’t mention this, but I know you said that one of your goals was to teach others about photography and few things are as helpful as a critique!)
A bit of strategic cropping would definitely help (either closer cropping or a lot less, so we can see *more* of the background. They teach you in art school that the background should either A) be nearly non-existent so you focus on the subjects or B) it must add something to the image, which isn’t really the case here. I might have opted for color as well (it looks like you’re at a carnival, and you could have some fab colors to work with in that setting!)
And I think it would be a much stronger image if he’d captured you with your face in 3/4 — more toward the camera vs. profile. And it seems like he caught Annabel between expressions (though she’s still just adorable! Her cheeks are so pinchable!)
But that’s just my opinion, rooted in perhaps a few too many years at art school! (Because, really, nobody needs 3 masters degrees in art! *LOL*)
