First Gift

My Photo

After Madeline was born, a nun that worked at the hospital came to my room to offer her congratulations and a blessing. When I told her my baby was very sick and had been transferred to another hospital, she got tears in her eyes and said a prayer that Madeline would pull through. She came back to my room a short time later with this bracelet. She’d made it herself and wanted to be sure I got it before I left the hospital. I taped it up next to Maddie’s incubator in the NICU, and when she came home I kept it in her jewelry box. When I want comfort, I run my fingers over the beads.

I love those kinds of beads. So simple, with a ribbon. The sentiment attached to it makes it precious.

I bet she’ll never know how much of a good work she did that day, but I am grateful she was there to do it. God places people where we need them to be, doesn’t He?

I am working with a children’s hospital in Texas to help recruit maternal fetal medicine specialists to their new maternity center. I think of you often as I share with them what a wonderful thing it will be for a mom and baby not to have to be seperated if the baby needs to be in a Level 3 NICU.

So sweet of the nun to do that for you. I’m glad you have it. But I wish you had Maddie.
