Flowers and Candles

by Mike on September 8, 2009

in Newborn Identity

Yesterday I wrote a song inspired by Maddie and recorded it on my iPhone.

Flowers and Candles

Flowers and candles on the side of the road
Flowers and candles on the side of the road
I used to drive right on by
But now they make me cry
Because I’ve got flowers and candles in my heart

Flowers and candles fill a child’s empty room
Flowers and candles for one taken too soon
I never knew what this world could do
But after all it has put me through
I have got flowers and candles in my heart

In my heart, in my heart, in heart for you

Flowers and candles to the end of my days
Flowers and candles to remember and praise
I never knew what this world could do
But after all it has put me through
I have got flowers and candles in my heart

And they’re always growing
And they’re always burning
To show my love for you

They’ll be always growing
They’ll be always burning
to show my love for you
My love for you

In my heart, in my heart, in heart for you

My cousin died a few years ago, she was 15, she still opens her daughters room every morning, in the window is a vase of flowers.

Hang in there. ((Hugs))

P.S. Just in case you didn’t already know this, you wrote Flowers and Candles and sang Candles and Flowers. Not that we mind :)

Hello (again)! I posted a comment awhile ago, but am back again. I’m not sure if you read all your comments, but if you do, I sure hope you can help! I have been reading your and your wife’s blogs for the past couple of months and just today when I clicked on your wife’s blog link on your page it said “Yep, Still Banned”. I realize no one knows me, but I am not sure why it would say that. I’m not even sure I’ve left a comment ever on her site, so I’m really hoping she just made a mistake and accidentally banned my IP address? I love reading both of your blogs, and of course, wish you both didn’t have to write about some of the things you do. Anyway, not sure if you could help but I’d hate not to be able to read her updates! :)

I hate that you are in a position to write these songs…but they are beautiful and I’m so glad you have an outlet. So sad, I hope that this helps a little bit…getting it off your chest. Your wife and you are amazing and I think of you both (and Maddie and little sis) often. I wish you continued healing and love from those around you.

It is beyond words that something as beautiful as your songs could be inspired by events so much the opposite of beautiful. You are a very gifted singer/songwriter. Thank you for sharing this with us. It is a beautiful tribute and testimony to Maddie’s life although it is sadly inspired by the fact that she has passed.

When I heard, read, and wept for your family, your candles and flowers this spring, I planted purple sweet peas in my garden for Maddie. It is September now, and they are still blooming, wound around the strong stalk of a gorgeous rose. A quiet testament, in the corner of a Canadian garden, to the beauty your daughters life created.

We faced the reality of death with the birth of three of our four sons. We were lucky and blessed, that possibility missed us and now we have four healthy boys. The oldest is now 26, the youngest 16. I can only imagine if things had turned the other way for us.

Please know and understand that life continues. It is my belief that you will see her again.

You have the understand and support of myself, my wife and family! I understand that does not change anything but thought you should know.

I am completely LOVING how you have pink milk in her bottle and how it looks like a Dr. Brown’s bottle that you converted to a ‘regular’ bottle by changing the nipple ring and nipple. I did the exact same thing.

Happy Birthday Maddie!
