Three years ago today Annabel was born into this world to two brokenhearted parents, and single-handedly spackled those broken hearts back together and filled them with love, hope, and dreams of the future. It might be too much to say she saved my life (then again it might not), but no matter how you look at it she’s an amazing little girl: laughing, loving, singing, and brightening my life every single day.
One of our first photos together
To celebrate Annie’s birthday, I decided to do something that she’ll get a kick out of one day: an interview. I’ve seen other parents do this before and thought it’d be a lot of fun. It’s funny, though… I was worried some of the questions might be a little abstract for her, but she not only understood each question but answered them all with great enthusiasm.
So here it is: Annie’s first interview!
Mike: “Hi, Annie. How old will you be tomorrow?”
Annie: “Three!”
Mike: “Who’s your best friend?”
Annie: “Georgie! He’s my husband.”
Mike: “And what is your absolute favorite thing to do?”
Annie: “Play the games.”
Mike: “What’s your favorite color?”
Annie: “Blue! My favorite color that is something else is black.”
Mike: “Do you have a favorite food?”
Annie: “Mac and Cheese!”
Mike: “What is your favorite thing to do with mommy and daddy?”
Annie: “Ride horses.”
Mike: ????
Annie: “At Disneyland. On the carousel.”
Mike: “Ah, yes. What is your favorite toy?”
Annie: “Mr. Potato Head! Woody!”
Mike: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Annie: “Doc McStuffins!”
Mike: “Medical school? Daddy better start saving. What’s something that makes you happy?”
Annie: “The sun.”
Mike: “And what is something that makes you sad?”
Annie: “Monsters.”
Mike: “Do you have a favorite movie?”
Annie: “Giselle!” (that’s Amy Adams’ character in “Enchanted.”)
Mike: How about a favorite TV show?”
Annie: “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!”
Mike: “Do you have a favorite book?”

Mike: What do you like to learn?”

Annie: “To get ice cream!”
Mike: “What are you teachers names at gymnastics and dance class?”
Annie: “Coach Amy and Ms. Linda.”
Mike: “Do you have a favorite treat?”
Annie: “Lollipop!” (singing) “Lollipop, lollipop, Oh lolli, lolli, lolli lollipop!”
Mike: “What’s your favorite animal?”
Annie: “A giraffe and a monkey and Rigby.”
Mike: “Do you have a favorite song?”
Annie: “Beauty and the Beast.”
Mike: “What’s your favorite thing to wear?”
Annie: “A costume!”
Mike: “What would your dream birthday be tomorrow?”
Annie: “Wake up and get princess nails (that’s when Heather paints Annie’s nails), then get tickles, watch videos of Annie on YouTube, go to the doctor -”
Mike: “Go to the doctor? For your birthday?”
Annie: “…go to the doctor, eat cake, eat pizza, eat pancakes, watch TV.”
Mike: “I think we can do better than watching TV, kidlet. So… what are you looking forward to this year?”
Annie: “Santa Claus. And my baby brother.”
Mike: “Thanks for your time, Annie.”

I can never get my kids to sit and pay attention for long enough to interview them. They get silly and start yelling things like, “BUTTS!” to every question. Sigh. Boys vs. Girls. You’ll see.
