Annabel’s Song

The mountains were on fire
Not a note was heard from a single choir
In the middle of the day
The sunlight went away

And grown men had to turn their heads
Lest it be seen that they were crying

It was a long dark spell
Until Annabel

Sweet Annabel
I hope this world treats you well

My Annabel
Sweet Annabel

On the day that you were born
A healing rain drenched the desert plain
And on the driest patch of dirt
A single flower grew

And grown men had to turn their heads
Lest it be seen that they were crying

It was a long dry spell
Until Annabel

Sweet Annabel
I hope this world treats you well

My Annabel
Sweet Annabel

My Annabel
Sweet Annabel

Mike, you have joy back in your heart and it is wonderful to see–and hear. You’re so talended! Thank you for sharing your songs, your photos, your true heart and feelings. You and your wife are beautiful people inside and out. It’s an honor to follow your blogs and tweets.

I have 4 children of my own. Actually, 5. I lost a baby in utero at 34 weeks gestation in summer of 1996 when I was 30. Her heart just stopped beating inside me and she died. So I know something of how difficult it is to have lost a child and then continued on. I had two sons at the time Danielle died. Now I have two more daughters. Nina is 12 and Matilda was born in April 2009.

I’m 44 and like Heather I went through endless doctor visits, shots and all to get Matilda here…VERY high risk. I also had to have a c-section, my first. I remember every second of waiting for her to get here and the surreal operating room and then the bliss of having her in my arms the first time. She’s 9 months old now and weighs 24 pounds!! I look at Annabel and then at Tillie and think, how did you grow up so fast. Enjoy every single minute with her and I just know she has the most beautiful guardian angel big sister looking out for her.

I would love to have you and Heather join me on Twitter if you are interested. I’m SnoozanK. All the best to both of you, congratulations and God bless you.

Many of the readers that have followed you for the past year know the fears and concerns you had (and may still have) that Annie was going to get a different Dad than Maddie. But I can HEAR your love for your perfect second little girl, and I’m sure Annie can hear it too. And, in the end, that’s all that’s going to matter. That she has a Dad who cherishes her, who writes stunningly beautiful words about her.

Thank you for sharing this song with us.

What a beautiful song, tribute and keepsake for Annabel! Especially love the line “I hope this world treats you well” as I guess that is the essence of parenting – teaching our kids how to cope in this crazy world! I can picture Annabel listening to this song and Maddie’s songs and thinking what a loving, dedicated, talented, sensitive Daddy she has and how lucky she and Maddie are to have you! Hope you and Heather are getting sleep. Thanks for sharing your special song with us, much love to you and your sweet girls.
