A Very, Very, Very Fine House

I got a call at 12:30 on Friday that we could pick up these:

We immediately snatched them up and went to OUR house.

My parents met us there with a basket of goodies, including a balloon for Annabel.

The balloon was all she needed to feel comfortable, and she started walking around like she owned the place.

We all toasted with sparkling cider:

clearly not ready for a cup

Then we put Annie to work.

After all, those floors aren’t gonna clean themselves…and we have a lot to do to make this house our home.

I have been waiting ALL weekend for this post!!!! Soooo happy for you guys it is gonna be awesome!!!!! The house looks beautiful!!!!
lol we just experienced our first hit as new home owners yesterday when the hot water heater started leaking boiling hot water all over the basement….ugh no landlord to call!!
$400 bucks and the help of delivery and installation from my pops and we are back in the business of having a dry basement and hot water again!!!

2 things:
1. Steam mop. It will make your life easier. And how gorgeous are those floors?
2. Congratulations!!!! I’m uber jealous. We’ll never settle down in one place long enough to own our own home.

We have true hardwood floors in our 1950′s house and I’ve been afraid to use a steam mop on them for fear of ruining them. Won’t the moisture and heat cause the wood to swell or warp?

My friend LOVES her steam mop for her tile floors, but I’ve been hesistant to try one on my wood floors. Advice?

12 Brianne August 15, 2011 at 10:14 am: I don’t think I would use a steam mop on real hardwood floors. I didn’t use them at our first home (sold it back in October and new condo has no hardwood). I use a Eureka EnviroSteamer (love it!!!) and it is perfect for linoleum and tile and pergo/laminate. It doesn’t leave the floors wet, but it does get very hot (220 degrees!).

For real hardwood, there is no match for Murphy Oil Soap and a Libman wonder mop

How exciting! It’s amazing how dirty a ‘new’ house is when you move in. My vote is to hire someone to come and clean the place from top to bottom, inside and out before you bring your stuff in and then have someone come clean again once everything is in its place. Ya know, cause you’re going to be so tired and Annie can only reach up about 2 feet high.

On another note, you know I read your blog often when I exclaim to no one in particular “OMG The Spohrs got their house!” and your 4 year old (My Maddie) goes “YAY! Is there new pictures of Annie?!” and my 10 year old goes “OMG, the one that we saw pictures of last Friday?” (How the heck she remembers THAT as opposed to that I told her to clean her room 5 minutes ago I’ll never know. Darn kids and their selective hearing!)

But the real question is….. did they leave the ping-pong table?

I was told by a hardwood installer to use water only. I didn’t quite take his advice and I alternate water only and hardwood floor cleaner. You know, one day I use water and months later when I get to it again I use the cleaner.
