Maddie used to LOVE bath time.

In her bath seat in the bath tub
Then, one day, she HATED the bath. It was like a switch was flipped. Everyone told me it was fairly common for kids to suddenly hate baths, so we powered through it. I tried mixing things up. Sometimes I’d take her into the shower with me, so she could have the closeness and skin to skin contact. She didn’t really dig that, either, but she definitely liked it more than the bathtub.
She LOVED swimming though. Last summer Mike and I took her swimming in my parents’ pool.
Maddie and I last went swimming when we were in Arizona in March. I was so excited to put her in her new bikini, and she was obviously pretty excited to wear it.
Off to the pool
We had so much fun in the pool, splashing and clinging to each other.
There were big plans for this summer. Swimming lessons were on the docket. And the fashion!
Please, the lighting here is just not up to par!

I’m so glad I took pictures of her in the suits. With the exception of the yellow suit, it was the only time she wore them.
She would have knocked the water wings off of everyone at the pool.

I was just looking at someof your pictures and the captions crack me up. Maddie seemed like such a little cuddlebug, I wish I could have met her. I am amazed at all of the pictures you took of her. You obviously gave her a very full life filled with so much love by so many people around her. Her happiness must have been reflected by all that you guys gave her.

I just can’t get over how striking she is. I know all babies are beautiful but those blue eyes, and the eyelashes and the open mouth smile and the face that is full of trust and emotion. Just strikingly perfect. You do an amazing job celebrating the life of your daughter.

The amount of personality that your Maddie has in her pinky toe is staggering. Seriously. She emanates her humor, sweetness and light. There are no words, Heather. Thank you for sharing her, and for still being here.
Oh God. I want to say something about how cute she is….. And she IS… But Heather, that picture of the two of you…. The radiant joy in your face…… My God, YOU are just so beautiful…. The look on your face breaks my heart. When someone asks me to describe how I feel about my daughter, I can’t explain it. But the look on your face describes EXACTLY how I feel, but can’t put into words. God honey I am so fucking sorry I don’t even know how to tell you how sorry I am. You deserve to have your baby. Its just bullshit she was taken. The two of you together are golden.

I just loooove that bikini! All my friends say that’s the fun of having a baby girl. You get to dress them up and make them all cute.
You are such a fantastic mother, and lovely person. What a privledge it has been to have glimpses into your world. Although it has been wrought with tragedy, the happiness you experienced with Maddie is one of a kind, the joy on your faces in these photos and videos, enviable.
I can only hope to have a baby with her smile and spirit one day. And damn I wish I looked that good in a bikini!!

I just love her smile. Jude hates the bath, but little girls seem to love the water from swimming to baths.
