Also, about 6 months after I got laid off from the Niners, I asked my boss why. I was pretty sure why, since I knew I pissed off the CFO, but I needed to know that for a fact. We had a great talk and he told me all sorts of things about how he went to bat for me, etc. So if you want to know why, ASK.
