Typhoid House

in Heather, the amazing Annabel

Annie and I are both officially sick. She woke on Friday with a fever, and I didn’t want to mess around with that over the weekend. So, off we went to see Dr. Looove. While we were there I made a flip comment about how I’d had my own cough since the Clinton Administration, so Dr. Looove listened to my chest as well. Bel and I walked out of there with antibiotic prescriptions for both of us.

You know what the good thing about prescription drugs is? Those little pills allow you to lay on the couch and say things like, “I don’t feeeeeeeeeeeeeel good” and your husband isn’t allowed to roll his eyes at you. And when you say, “I have a feeeeeever, I need cold coconut water!” your husband has to get it for you. Should he dare say something like, “you have a fever, not broken legs,” all you have to do is wave your prescription in his general direction and make weak moaning sounds.

I turn into such a man when I’m sick.

I have been feeling physically crappy for ages and ages, so I really hope these drugs do the job. As fun as it is to whine at Mike, I don’t enjoy being sick. Especially when Annie is sick as well.

Annie and I spent the first part of the weekend a sweaty mess. I can always tell when she’s sick because she wants to be cuddled. Miss Independent suddenly wants her mama and it’s awesome. Except she has that damn fever, so she is like cuddling with the freaking sun. We both napped off and on on Friday, and at one point I had to ask Mike to take her for a while. When he lifted her up, there was an Annie-shaped sweat stain on my shirt.

In between naps and visiting Dr. Looove, I managed to squeeze in a follow-up visit with Dr. Ken so he could check my eye. His assistant put orange eye drops in BOTH of my eyes, which burned and made my eyes feel like they were covered in glue. Dr. Ken cleaned up the mess, then flipped my eyelid inside out for a thorough examination. The verdict is that Stye Stallone has healed very well, but there is still tissue damage. I have to go back in a few weeks to RULE OUT ADDITIONAL SURGERY because otherwise my eyelid might always look a little puffy. Now, I spend a lot of time looking in the mirror (I’m conceited like that), and I think the puffiness is negligible. So unless someone can give me a good reason why I might want this additional unspecified surgery, I think I’m gonna pass.

And don’t say “But you could be a mascara model!” because that ship has sailed.

Ugh. Tell me about it. I started to feel sick Friday even and spent 3 hours involuntarily shivering. Eventually called the out of hours Doctor (my doctor closes on w/ends) who sent me to see a doctor at a clinic at hospital. What an event! Instead of giving me antibiotics or antivirals he sent me to Accident & Emergency for bloodwork, ECGs and chest X-rays! Typical my veins wouldn’t give any blood, xray didn’t show much but ECG pointed out a problem with my heart which now needs follow up.
Went in for flu meds, came out with a letter for my GP for a 24 hour heart tape and no drugs.
Can I see your doctor please?

I vote against surgery, unless they tell you that you’ll end up looking like this if you don’t have it done: http://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/story_attachment.asp?storycode=4128284&seq=5&type=P&c=4

I hope the weekend of drugs, rest and Mike waiting on y’all did the trick. Poor Spohrs!

I love the “Bel” nickname. It fits your little beauty!

Being sick sucks… but being able to shake a prescription and have someone fill your every need and whim is kind of awesome.

Hope you both feel better REALLY soon!! But if you want to milk it a few extra days just so Mike waits on you, no one would blame you :-P

I think if you’re content with the way your eye looks then why have another surgery!

Heather, I had a horrible stye that required cutting as well. It did leave a little tiny bump on my eyelid from the scare tissue but it can barely be seen and I’d much rather have a little tiny bump that no one can see but me then go back and have my eyelid re-cut.

I’m sorry you are both sick, hope you are feeling better soon!

There is nothing worst then being sick while your little one is sick too.

I would have to agree that the eyeball bumpiness would have to be major before allowing sharp instruments near my eyeball again. Gak!

I hope you two feel better soon! Being sick is so not fun. And mascara model ships never sail because there is always the chance of random discovery. But, I would avoid extra surgery, too. You could bring in the puffy eye look. Could be cool.

Glad your Sty is getting better. Yikes. That thing was taking over. Glad you got it taken care of.

And cuddling with the sun? Send her over here. It’s only FREEZING COLD here so cuddling with the sun would be nice.

I laughed so hard at the comment about cuddling with the sun. You’re so funny!
I’m sorry both of y’all are sick. I hope the drugs work quickly and things are back to normal soon. Although it is kind of nice when they snuggle-I have a super independent one like that, too.
Hopefully your eye Doc won’t try to talk you in to anymore surgery. Eye stuff freaks me out, too. Think of it this way: you’ll be old someday and your eyelids will droop and look puffy anyway, so why test fate?? ;)

Moms are so bad at taking care of themselves . . . about a year ago, I took my son in to see his doctor and the guy checked him out and then took one look at my hacking-up-a-lung self and said, “You’re way worse than he is.” We both got drugs that day, too.

I think we need another pic of your healing eye . . . though I would vote no surgery (eye surgery, ugh!) unless it’s drooping down over your whole eye, kinda like the real life Stallone .

Ha, I loved the comment that you turn into such a man when you’re sick. Ain’t that the truth, sista! My hubby has a little tummy trouble or a tiny little cough and he turns into a two year old with the whining.

I really hope you both get to feeling better real soon. Fingers crossed for no more stye surgery.

Oh, that is the worst! I’m glad you got some snuggle time in though!

I’m with you on the eye surgery. If you don’t think it’s necessary, why do it? I don’t want anyone slicing by my eye either!

What ever happened with your clotting disorder? Are you doing all right? What happened with that bleeding test? I kept meaning to ask you.

So sorry you two are sick! Hope the meds kick in and kick it right out of you – we’ve been lucky so far this winter *fingers crossed*.
Glad your eye is better. I still can’t believe you had to have it drained. I never knew it could get to that point. I had one like that in college, but it went away with some antibiotics. I would pass on further messing around with needles by my eyeball if I were you, too. Uck.
I love, love, love Annie’s dramatics, btw. It’ll prepare you for when she hits about nine or ten. :)
