Phoning It In

by Heather on April 14, 2010

in Heather, Mike, the amazing Annabel

It’s no secret that Mike and I are big baseball fans. Since Mike’s team is based in San Francisco, we purchase a TV package every year that allows him (or, us by default) to watch every game. This isn’t a big deal during the summer, when all the regular television programming is in reruns. But in the spring, when my programs are on? PROBLEM. But I digress.

On Monday night we had baseball on the TV (the Tivo recorded my shows) while I laid on the couch with my heating pad. I was only half-paying attention to everything around me when Mike said, “Annie has a dirty diaper, I’m going to go change her.” After he left the room I heard cheering coming from the TV, so I turned my attention back to the game. Mike’s team was not only up to bat, but they had the bases loaded. I realized it was totally unlike Mike to:

a) leave the room when the Giants were up to bat,
b) leave the room when they were not only up to bat but had the bases loaded, and
c) not pause the TV.

I was totally impressed with Mike, and thought it was sweet that he was so anxious to help Annie’s discomfort that he forgot about the game! So, thinking I was being a good wife, I paused the television so he wouldn’t miss anything.

After about thirty seconds, I heard Mike saying, “YAY ANNIE! YAAAAAY” from her bedroom. Thinking she was doing something cute, I threw my heating pad aside and grabbed my camera. When I rushed into the room, I realized Annie wasn’t doing something cute…Mike had beaten the system.

I caught him watching baseball on his phone while he changed the baby

In case you can’t tell what that little thing is on the changing table above Annabel, here is a zoomed in picture:

BUSTED

He is watching the game on his PHONE. Apparently he also bought a package that allows him to do this…and he didn’t tell me. BUSTED! Meanwhile, poor Annie just laid there naked, waiting for the inning to be over so he would finish changing her!

Now that I know he can watch the game on his phone, everything has changed. Last night, I watched Glee and Lost on our TV while he sat with his super secret phone package. Ah, technology.

Ah, yes. MLB at bat. It made it’s way here when we were on vacation without TV access last summer. Annie looks unamused at Mike’s attempt to pull a fast one on you. She’ll be calling him out on his trickery before you know it.

And over here, the very second the AFL season stops, its nonstop cricket. And dont even get me started on the early hours of the morning motor racing. Ugh. We used to get the MLB extra innings package, but then we switched to AT&T Uverse and they don’t offer that option. When switching, my husband said it would not be a big deal and that he can’t really watch the RS when they are playing so badly anyway. Which turned out to be a BIG FAT LIE. I catch him looking up scores and such all. the. time. I’d rather he just have the app so he can be less miserable. I have to get it!

I found your link thru a friend, your story is an amazing story. I myself have a son born at 28 weeks gestation with no warning on Oct 22, 2007. I have mixed feelings when telling people for a couple reasons, 1)I don’t want the sympathy card. I am ever so blessed with my son and after a long 8 weeks in NICU with a rollar coaster and 3 long months of heart monitor and iron/caffine meds, he is a extrememly smart 7 1/2 yr old (he never spoke a word until 3 and was reading by himself at 4 1/2 and now is reading at a 6th grade reading level and excelling in all areas of school) You would never know the trails he over came by looking at him 2) I dont want people to look at him with that classification 3) I feel guilty that my story has turned out with the best possible outcome, although, i am ever so grateful for it. If you are ever up for a Boise Idaho St Lukes Hospital trip I would LOVE to be involved to show there are happy endings. Love to your family. Jami

Over here at the Raba homestead it is hockey, football, golf, and Cops. I think my husband needs one of these phone plans ;-)

    Oh my goodness…
You guys remind me of one of those ‘fat guy/skinny wife’ sitcoms in this post.
In a good way. And I’m not saying Mike’s fat. Mike’s not fat. No one. Is. Fat.
    Just the premise, y’know?

The look on her face in the second picture? Priceless. Totally worth him buying that package. :)

    Ha; that’s hilarious. Love it.

I remember my dad always prided himself on being able to change/wash/etc. a kid between innings.

Oh no…not the phone! I buy the online package to suffer through my Mets seasons. However, the laptop picture is MUCH higher quality than the cell phone picture. Might cost more though…

    I admire the creativity, where there’s a will there’s a way.
