Cough Syrup Ramblings

by Heather on February 2, 2011

in Heather

- A dose and a half of this cough syrup stuff had better be enough. I haven’t slept more than four hours a night since Thanksgiving.

- Mike is not responsive to my questions about life. Yes, Mike, Annabel might become an amazingly talented clown at the age of 14, and the circus may want her to drop out of school. We have to know what we’d do in this situation. We have to be prepared for ANYTHING! Cough

- Hmmm, we need batteries in case the power goes out. And I guess we need a flashlight for the batteries. Cough

- Check Annie to see if she’s breathing. Check Rigby. Check Annie. Repeat repeat repeat until Rigby raises her head and growls at me. Cough

- Take note – still awake, not even yawning. Cough

- Mike’s grumpiness has stopped being fun. Cough

- Check twitter. No one is awake, not even in Australia. Cough Cough

- Briefly wish LA was snowed in so I could wear the same tank top and boxers all day and not have Mike judge me. Cough Cough Cough

- A yawn! From tiredness or boredom, I do not know. Cough

- Extensively examine my split ends. Realize I need at least two inches cut off. Remember I have a hair appointment at a new salon in the morning. Fret about what to do to my hair and its color. Fret about what to wear. Cough

- Start trying on clothes. Get pissed about water retention and Aunt Flo.

- Wish I could share clothes with Annie.

- Consider doing laundry. Laugh.

- Go on real estate websites and wonder who the hell can afford this house. Then wonder what I’d do in a house that has more toilets than bedrooms. Then realize that our condo has more toilets than bedrooms. Reevaluate life.

- Feel uneasy. Wonder if it has to do with toilets. Vow to never again judge people by how many toilets are in their home.

- Consider taking more cough syrup. Realize I haven’t coughed in ten minutes. Lay down.

- Cough

It seems everyone in my house is suffering from the same deal. I bought a bottle of the Kroger brand expectorant pills (cut in half for my kiddos). They work so well. They keep me from coughing for 4-5 hours each night (directions say you can take them every 4 hours). They work and they are cheaper than Mucinex but the same thing! ;)

That is not the kind of house you could live in with a toddler. Although if you can spend that kind of money on a house, you can probably have a team of nannies to race around after her and stop her from climbing up the chandeliers…
I hope your cough is better soon!

I love your cough syrup ramblings. LOL! Hope you get more than four hours of sleep!

On what to do with your hair: I just say go for a trim (of course I say this because I love long hair), and maybe go a shade lighter than the color you have now. ;o)

I’d rather have the 24 hour vomiting flu run through our house than a dang cough. Coughs can last for days, even weeks. Such a pain!

Hope you manage to get some sleep….

That’s a SWEET house but I would not want to THINK about cleaning it. Feel sorry for those people.

Trust me on the snow thing- Im in Canada RIGHT NOW and it is snowing RIGHT NOW and it’s not fun. I can’t wear my PJ’s because I have to work :(
My workplace sent out a company wide email yesterday stating if we could stay home, do so EXCEPT for certain people, and I am one of those exceptions :(
Hope your feeling better!

I live in Edmonton. It’s been Hell!
I’m tired of snow and shoveling.

Heather, try codeine cough syrup, it’s the only thing that works for me. I don’t even bother with drugstore stuff now, I go straight for the big guns:)

LOL … I can tell you are a Cali girl. No self respecting New Englander spends a snow day in a tank top and boxers. It’s flannel PJ’s, fuzzy slippers and fleece all the way :) .

Hope you feel better soon. Honey and grape juice may hit the spot (http://www.natural-homeremedies.com/homeremedies_cough.htm).

Thats what I do when I can’t sleep or snowed in like today when they are calling for 18″ of snow. I look on the house market and dream a little (or a lot)! Roma I would love to spend the day in flannel, but I’m in the tank and shorts. We have a wood stove and unless it’s -15 below out our house isn’t much cooler then 80 degrees. Oh but how I love a nice snow day! It’s been a wonderful winter here in Maine!

Love reading your blog after waking up and getting the boys settled. =) My big boy always gets really nasty coughs and since a toddler can’t take meds, we started googling. A spoonful of honey and a glass of warm milk with some tumeric mixed in has worked wonders! I told someone here and apparently, it’s common knowledge to the Brits. =)

A tablespoon full of honey (yuck) and hot water wit lemon always did far more for my cough than cough syrup.

Hmm…the house is elegant, but OMG so STUFFY in its decor. It reminds me of my grandma’s taste, the one who put plastic over her French Provincial furniture whenever I visited her.

I hate being up with a cough too. As far as the circus goes, it sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity, but Annie will need something to fall back on. If the circus didn’t work out, could she live a rich and full life as a birthday party clown? If not, she’d better stay in school. ; )

12 amanda February 2, 2011 at 4:19 am

ugh. Been there many times. I hope you feel better soon! And, really, it doesn’t hurt to have a plan if Annie wants to run off and be a clown. Education is important!

HAH! You are even funnier when you’ll all wacked out on cough syrup!! I hope you get some relief very soon, being sick definitely sucks!

And for that house, ohma-gawd!! Well, if Annie does, in fact, join the circus then maybe she’ll be able to swing a mortgage like that and let you stay in one of her 7 bedrooms (or one of her 11 bathrooms? they’ll be just as big as your current bedroom I’m sure) ;)

You are so witty Heather! Gosh I love your writing style!! We are snowed in here in Illinois and I got a good laugh reading your post this morning. I am going thru mid life not able to sleep issues and feel that way in the middle of the night!!! And my fiance doesn’t understand! I would do anything to sleep and am jealous of his snoring about 3 to 4 seconds after his head hits the pillow. How does he do that???!!! Hope your cough gets better Heather… nothing more annoying than to not sleep!

I have 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The girls have their own bathroom. It’s just a toilet though. You would think that by not having a sink in there they wouldnt get into a lot of trouble. you would be wrong. They like to throw whole rolls of toilet paper in the bowl. while there is pee in there.
Try digging that out.
All the best-

That stinks. I am a life long insomniac (minus the cough at the moment). I suggest Unisom (when not sick) and Nyquil when you are. And just make sure Mike is in Annie duty while you are unconscious. If Nyquil does not work, try a shot of vodka and then the Nyquil. That may do ya for one night atleast. :) Sweet dreams.

Ok that house. Crazy! I would love to have that one bathroom they show, it’s probably as big as my whole house. I also find it amusing they photo shoped stuff onto the TVs.

Also did you look at the virtual tour? The playground there looks nicer than my local park.

Don’t wish for the snow and ice lady, I’m in Texas iced in at 13 degrees and it is NOT fun. I am sure others have it worse than I do, so I will shut up now.

Those with worse snow situation probably are better equipped then those of us in Texas, with snow plows to clear the road, salt for the road, etc. I’m getting a little bit of cabin fever here in Abilene.

I have been battling a horrible cough for days now. My concoction of inhaler, cough syrup with codeine and sudafed has done nothing. I find myself watching really bad infomercials late at night and hoping that all the coughing is doing something to help my stomach muscles….hope you feel better soon.

Wow – that house. I love though, that on the main listing under “Interior Feature” a laundry room is, apparently, the most important of the interior features. I’m not from the LA area, but I would *hope* that if I had the money to pay $19m for a house, it would include a few laundry rooms so I wouldn’t have to walk back and forth or up and down the stairs…

also, the house. other than it’s HUGE i didn’t like it. i mean, the backyard pool area is pretty sweet! and 3 fireplaces? sure. but the furniture & draping on the windos…GAG!

and..seriously the deposit is $3 ??? 3 million…or 3 dollars?? because if it’s $3.00 i have that, only i don’t think i’ll have the money for the montly mortgage payments.

Sorry about the cough–hate not being able to sleep. On the other hand, you found one heckova house! But, the only way I could possibly buy it is if the owners left all of the furnishings. No way could I furnish that one–my furniture might fit in one of the closets! The master suite is bigger than my whole house and I thought my house was big. Yikes!

Go straight to your doctor and ask for a cough syrup that has codeine added. She’ll probably prescribe something like 2 teaspoons every 4 hours. Take 2 teaspoons every four hours but at night, take an extra teaspoon. 3 teaspoons right before bed. You’ll sleep like a kitten.

When my parents designed their very reasonable 4 bedroom house, the county put a limit on the number of bedrooms they could have but not the number of bathrooms. And it is on septic. They could literally have put in 15 bathrooms, but no more than 4 bedrooms. I think the toilets have more effect on the septic than the number of beds…. Bizarre.

Ha! That looks like my summer cottage….

Seriously, tho. Who would *want* to live in a house like that? It’s so stuffy and museum-ish. Not cozy or home-like in the least.

What a waste of money! Seriously! I’d be happy with a $1 million house (absolute max!) and a nice car. The rest, I’d spend on starting my own animal shelter — that would, at least, bring happiness!

Sorry about the cough. isn’t there some wives tale about Vicks Vapo Rub on your feet and then wear socks. Not sure where I heard that I can’t imagine it would work.

Now about that house . . .I have often wondered why people need a house that huge. Unless you are the Duggars or Octomob (God forbid) most normal families only have 4-6 members. I mean, really. Of course I’m not wealthy so I’ll never know. Oprah’s house is huge and it’s just her, Steadman and a bunch of dogs. If I ever win the lottery maybe I’ll change my tune.

Also, I work a night shift (8:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.) from my home. If you never need someone to talk to just send me an email. I don’t Twitter but I’m willing to learn.

Hope you feel better soon.

That really is one butt ugly house, no kidding. That’s not even a home it’s just a showplace. And did you see the HOA fees? $1,500 a month – holy crap! That’s two house payments where I come from. Someone mentioned it could be Lisa’s house from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Which it could very well be but hers is actually bigger – 17,000 sq feet.
Vicks on your feet and then socks. It may be too late for this to work because generally the earlier the better. But give it a try at nighttime. It usually stops the coughing.

Hugs from MN
Marie
