The Third-Easiest Hairstyle In The World

by Heather on February 25, 2010

in Hair

One of my hidden talents is that I am very good at doing hair. I was the go-to hair braider for my softball teams through the years, and I could do all kinds of crazy designs with only a braid. I was pretty much a hair Michelangelo. I have done lots of hair up-dos for my friends, I think it’s really fun. Nowadays, I only do my own hair for fancy occasions like weddings and parole hearings, but oh, my abilities are still there. The rest of the time I do my hair in two minutes. Yes, only two minutes.

And I’m going to show YOU how to do it in two minutes.

It will CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

YOU. ARE. WELCOME.

You have great hair. I do not (and too short to do fancy hair, but thanks anyway!).

I can’t wait till my hair is long enough to do that! You’re absolutely adorable, Heather.

I’m definitely going to try this. I don’t know if my hair is quite long enough to tie up like that but I might be able to!

I just tackled my 10 year old and am currently twisting one side, holding the other side in my mouth, and writing this comment with my free hand!

I just adore you Heather!

That’s it! I am growing my now shoulder length hair out JUST so I can do THIS style!

Well DANG! I can’t watch videos at work. BOO!!! I want to know the hair style! I too am an accomplished hairbraider thanks to my days in the Colorguard in high school! I love to do hair… one day I will go to school for it!

I totally want to go to school for it. It’s my secret dream!

I can’t see the video at work either…but if someone could ever show me how to braid my own hair, I’d buy them a drink!

You would think as a mom of 3 girls I would be able to do beautiful hair, but I can’t. I have had curly hair my entire life, so I never had to do anything to it except wash it and mousse it. Due to having curly hair, I am stunted when it comes to hair styles and all my girls have straight hair. Sigh……

I now know what I’m doing with my hair today, and I could totally call that professional too. Wonder if it will work with paper clips since my desk is lacking in bobby pins right now.

Reply

11 heather... February 25, 2010 at 4:26 pm

HELL YEAH it should work! I was the queen of paper clip hairstyles when I worked in an office.

That is a million kinds of awesome. I will be trying this immediately.

I am off to take a shower here in a few and I will have to see if my hair is long enough for that.

Oh my gosh, you are awesome! I can’t wait to try this! My hair is definitely long enough and I have been looking for a new lazy updo. I want to leave work early now just so I can rewash my hair and try this out.

I’m so doing this on my girls when they get home! I might make them put on one of my old nursing bras and do their best “Heather” impression.

Reply

16 Heather Spohr February 25, 2010 at 4:29 pm

I think the nursing bra adds a touch of CLASS.

17 Jennifer February 25, 2010 at 1:34 pm

I’m totally trying this out on my Baby Girl for school tomorrow.

18 Magda February 25, 2010 at 1:52 pm

I may or may not be running to the bathroom to get my hair to try this! I think my hair might be to thick though, boo :(

Reply

19 Lisa February 25, 2010 at 2:58 pm

I was thinking the same thing! I see so many cute hairstyles that my hair is too thick (and heavy) to hold.

Reply

20 Heather Spohr February 25, 2010 at 4:30 pm

I just told Magda this, but for thick hair, you can try splitting your hair in half, a top section and then a bottom section. So then you would have TWO knots. Make sense? Let me know if that works!

Seriously, I need to let my hair grow out again, just so I can do this, and also talk like a valley girl.

Reply

23 Heather Spohr February 25, 2010 at 4:31 pm

A VALLEY GIRL?! GAAAAASSSSSSSSSP!!!

Reply

24 Maria February 25, 2010 at 2:52 pm

This kind of makes me miss having hair.

Also are you 14? SERIOUSLY. Your voice is so cute.

YOU ARE.

26 Melissa February 25, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Aaaand now I’m willing my hair to grow faster so I, too, can have a fancy ‘do.

Reply

27 Lisa February 25, 2010 at 2:57 pm

That’s a great idea! I have a bad feeling my hair would be too thick for that, though. :(

That hairdo is all kinds of awesome. My go to easy style has always been the ponytail. My hair is constantly in a ponytail, and I mean constantly. I will gladly give this one a try and if I can pull it off I will totally be adding it to my easy, but cute style repertoire :)

32 Brandy February 25, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Hmm, I will try this, but only until all my hair falls out post birthing my little one in about 2 months. Then I will shear it all off in a vain attempt to hide my lack of hair. In a somewhat related note, I think you and I have the same brand of nursing bras.

33 Chibi Jeebs February 25, 2010 at 3:45 pm

You are too adorable for words. :) I’m interested to try this, but not sure how my uber-curly/frizzy hair will look once it dries…

34 Melissa (Mbonn) February 25, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I just got my hair, but but I think it’s still long enough to do that.

Also, look at you making hilarious and also informative videos with an infant! I was cracking up at the end :D

35 melissa (Mbonn) February 25, 2010 at 3:49 pm

bahaha self-editing fail! I did *not*, in fact, just get my hair, I’ve had it for a while now. I did however just get it cut, but I do still have enough hair to do this :)

I just tried this but it didn’t look nearly as cute on me. I think the problem was that I couldnt get it tight enough (thats what she said). Also, how do you take it out of the knot?? Ouch!

Reply

39 Heather Spohr February 25, 2010 at 4:37 pm

I love a good That’s What She Said joke. But taking it out (that’s what she said) is easy, just remove the bobby pins and loosen it with your fingers!

Heather- I LOVE YOU!!! You are absolutely adorable!!! Your hair ROCKS!!! My daughter will be sporting the “Heather Twist” at school tomorrow for sure. I think this needs to be a weekly feature from now on, this is valuable information! Now hurry up and teach me how to French braid and I will be indebted to you for life!!!

You are so allowed to do my hair ANYTIME you feel the urge. You know maybe in April or in NYC in August. Free reign I tell you!

And, I’m kinda sad there wasn’t a Bumpit involved with the 3rd easiest updo for long hair! #justsayin :)

Ok, I tried this while I was sitting here watching you and it worked. I’m amazed! And it’s so cool. I currently have no hair ties, clips, etc. and it’s holding. Thanks Heather, I’m so doing this on my daughter!

Reply

51 Rachel August 5, 2010 at 5:31 pm

My hair is too thick for most cute hairstyles so I usually have to stick to the first and second easiest hairstyles. When I tried this sitting here in my chair, my problem seemed to be in the tuckage. I will be so excited if it works with wet hair! Thanks for sharing your hair tricks! Next I will try the bang braid :)

Aw Heath, it’s so fun to see you doing fun braiding stuff! I can picture you with your softball friends braiding all their hair! I’ll have to try this one! I’ve been sporting a bun a lot lately because my hair has developed a weird wave that requires straightening for a cute ponytail. Lame. Anyway, I think you’re cool.

I LOVE these hair tips. Today, I combined this WITH the bang braid and LOVE it. I have super thick hair that I like to keep long, but is a menace on a day to day basis. Usually cop out with a ponytail, but you’re giving me such options! Keep it up!

I know I’m a bit late but I just happened upon this and I’m so excited to try it! It’ll be a great way to do my hair when my husband and I finally get out on Saturday!

You were right! This *did* change my life!! I never know what to do with my hair, I am a bun, ponytail or hair down girl (most often just bun because I am THAT lazy).

But now I look super cute … I’m working on the tons of money thing next.
