I’ve put up lots of hair-tos, and the recurring email I get is “this is so great, but I have short hair!” I’ve listened to you all, and I have come up with a solution! I asked the adorably amazing Erin Loechner to film a guest tutorial. Erin is one of the sweetest people around, and she rocks short hair. She’s even writing a memoir called Autohairography. She’s a hair girl after my own heart.
Today, Erin is giving product tips, along with two creative ways to accessorize your short hair.

AHHHH!
Okay, so Erin (and Heather, if you have help as well), I LOVE YOUR HAIR. I currently have longer-than-shoulder-length hair and I live in Alabama. This is crucial information because it is currently eleventy frillion degrees outside. So I’m looking to cut my hair short.
So Erin – this is going to sound weird – but I need pics of your hair to show my stylist. Also, what terms do you use to describe your cut? (Layered? Shagged pixie? I’m making stuff up here.)
Short hair rocks SO HARD. I love it, and yours is super cute and I’m now coveting it.

Wow, I love Your hair Erin… I had long hair and have gradually over 3 months had it cut like 10 times …to ease my husband into the transition(long hair guy) but I just warned him after seeing this video that I am going way shorter. I want to look just like Erin, but short of cosmetic surgery…I may have to just be content with the hair !! Like the above comment… I would love a still picture to bring to my stylist….preferably before my appointment next week…just kidding but really it would be so helpful…or maybe i will take my sons ipad and show her the video. Great tips with the scarf…going to try it now!! Heather you are adorable too!!
Thanks!

Alicia says:
LOVE the shoutout to short hair! I just went short and it was a good decision. Love your ideas as my current strategy is just to sleep with my hair wet and then go with however it looks when I wake up!
Sue says:

OMG! I love it! Such perfect timing, too. I’ve been rocking the long mid-back Bohemian waves until last week when on a whim I chopped 13inches off for donation and now rock a pixie that I have no clue how to style. This was amazing! More, please!!!

Erin is so cute!!! I love how every other word she uses is “LIKE”. I love her hair!! My hair is similar to hers. It was great to get some tips!! THANKS ERIN….THANKS HEATHER!!!

Hi I have short shoulder length thick thick thick hair and i notice when i pull it back all the strands in the back of my hair won’t stay clip and i end up using like 20 clips for 10 pieces of hair is there a way to fix it?

Funnelcloud Rachel says:
Could Erin be any more adorable? And I SO wish I could rock that pixie cut – unfortunately, I’ll have to find some cheekbones first…
Also, “I would totally be bald if my husband would let me.” Me too!
erin loechner says:
@nikki — can you put a scarf over the strands? or a headband? or, you can get some super duper styling (wavy) product that will make it look like those strands are entirely purposeful.
another thing i’ve done is add some messy twists and braids to the sides to keep the strands at bay:

does that help?

OMG!! Erin is just the cutest thing EVER!! Sorry…..I just had to say that!

She is too cute! Love the tips…totally trying the scarf stuff to see if my chubby face can pull it off!
Sara says:
Thanks Heather & Erin so much for this! I have had short hair for most of my life, but unfortunately, I have only rocked it for the past few years. I was even thinking of growing it out, but now I’m inspired to go see my girl for a new chop job. Also, Erin, do you have any specific headbands that you recommend? My head is shaped kinda funny in the back, so if the headband is wide all the way around, it won’t work for me. I had found one a few years ago that was wide on the top, and a stretchy cord in the back… but now the only ones I can find like that are sized for a little girl. Thanks again!

I always have my hair trimmed short than the unusual for I don’t want to look hilarious on weekdays taking care of everything and running errand at home. I often times gets exhausted doing some blog commenting to earn an extra income then at five I had to finch my kids at school. Short hair won’t require you long on combing and fixing. Your always on the go.:)
