I’ve been stockpiling hair clips and doodads for Annie’s return to school, grabbing cute duds for Annie’s locks whenever I come across them. And, as always, when I see something that’s cute but too expensive (for me), I take note and make it myself. I came across some pom pom hair clips and knew immediately I could easily make them. They were very simple, and Annie now has several sets in different colors to match whatever outfit she puts together each morning.
Pom pom maker (small) OR a small fork
Make pom poms! If you don’t have a pom pom maker, you can use a fork. Wrap the yarn around the tip of the fork, then tie a string around the middle. Cut the loops on both sides, then fluff and trim the yarn if necessary.
I left a longer string of yarn so I could tie the pom poms to the hair clips.
I wanted these to dangle a bit, so I threaded the yarn through the middle part of the clip, leaving extra length.
I then tied a knot and trimmed the excess.
To cover the knot, I put a gob of hot glue…
…and then pressed another pom pom into it.
I also used pom poms to dress up some ribbon clips.
When I showed these to Annie she said, “Oh Mama, these are SO cute.”
Annie thought the dangling pom poms were really fun.
I love how the pom pom ribbon clips turned out!
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!
