I love this hair style – it’s great for one of those days when you don’t feel like doing much to your hair, but you still want to look put together. All you need is an elastic headband (I made this one with Fold Over Elastic) and about three minutes!
~ Start with brushed hair that has a bit of grit or texture. I usually mist the hair with hairspray or a styling gel.
~ Section a tiny portion of the bottom layer of hair, clipping the top portion out of the way.
~ Make tiny braids with the unclipped hair.
~ Unclip the top layer of hair, then place the headband on the head so that it’s OVER the hair.
~ Starting behind the left ear, take a small portion of hair and tuck it up and over the headband, pulling it through so it forms a loop over the headband. Repeat until you get to the nape of the neck, then repeat from the right ear and work your way back.
~ Tuck any loose strands, being sure to fluff the loops to cover the headband.
~ Finish with hairspray, if you’d like.
Here’s a quick video of the whole thing!

I love doing my hair like this when it’s wet – not only will it stay in all day, but it dries with nice waves.
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!

She sits so patiently when she’s having it done too! Or is that just clever editing?! :p Going to have to try this

Perfect timing on this post! Just the hairstyle I need for a party this weekend. Thank you.
Megan says:
Do you have problems with the headband sliding off her head? They never stay put on my daughter’s head for too long. But this is super cute and can’t wait to try it!
Mandy says:
I have the exact same question…I’m not sure if our heads are too big or too small but headbands slide off both of my daughters, and me.
REK981 says:
We can’t wear traditional hedabands either. I did find that a company called Strawberry Revolution makes headbands that tie and those stay put!! THey are all handmade and it is a small, woman owned business so I didn’t mind treating us to a couple of those. Check them out!
Lisa says:
Or do what I am thinking, glue small combs onto band so they will grip in hair
Heather says:
I don’t! They stay on her well. I would suggest either tightening the headband, or misting the hair with hairspray to make it “stickier” and less likely to slide!

My 5-year-old recently got glasses (our eyes are actually pretty good in our family, so we were surprised). Then I noticed a bunch of kids that age getting them. I thought she’d be self-conscious, but she quickly got used to them and is super cute!

If only I had any hair skill; I really wish I could figure out how to braid my own hair!!

That hair style is absolutely divine! Everything about it is perfection and I must try it…if and when my 8 year old daughter allows me to, that is! I’m going to sure her the video so that she’ll want to get it done because Annabel looks so beautiful with it that way.
Thank you so much for sharing!

good lord that girl is cute!
This makes me wish I had long hair again! I love my pixie though

My hair doesn’t like to cooperate and I have zero patience with it, but I tried out this hairstyle this morning and I LOVE it! It was so easy and I did it in about a minute (I didn’t do the braids) and it held up the entire day. Now I’m a bit more inspired to try some of the other styles that I’ve tried before but weren’t as successful. Thanks!

I tried this yesterday and it was amazingly simple! Our only problem was the slipping headband and it probably didn’t help my daughter rolled around in a hayloft for a bit I’m going to try the hairspray first.
I’m very curious how this works with wet hair and am going to give it a gry!
Sharon says:
Love it! I’m going to have to try that out on my daughter Zoe! What kind of conditioner and brush do you use on Annie? My daughter has what looks like very similar hair and although I brush it daily and use a heavy duty conditioner we’re dealing with some end of summer, too much ocean/chlorine damage, and my husband is bugging me to cut it but neither she nor I want to…
REK981 says:
Sharon – try a deep conditioning treatment on the dry hair. Coconut oil or olive oil on dry hair and let it sit for a good 20+ minutes. Then wash and condition as normal. If she has a curly or wavy hair use a conditioner that is specifically for that hair type. Trim the yucky off the bottom a little at a time. As for brushing, both my daughter and I have thick, slightly curly/wavy hair and we use a wide tooth comb in the shower while the conditioner is in it to comb out any tangles. Then I try to dry brush it as little as possible. Maybe once every couple of days. It gets a beachy wave look to it but it isn’t tangly. Good luck!!
