It’s kind of surprising to me that in all of my years of parenting, I’ve never had a proper wet bag. I used to just stuff a Ziploc into my diaper bag so I was ready for any soiled clothes or wet bathing suits, but what I really wanted was something that was reusable and wouldn’t take up much room in my already-crowded diaper bag
I was at Target last week and they were having a huge clearance sale on shower curtains, and it occurred to me that the vinyl-like material would be perfect for a simple wet bag. Plus, at only $6.98 I couldn’t beat the price! The whole bag only took ten minutes to make, with the majority of that time going towards me trying to refold all the extra curtain material!
Shower curtain or liner (made of vinyl/PVC or similar)
Heavy-duty thread
Velcro
Scissors
Pins, needle
Cut an 11-inch by 30-inch section of the shower curtain. Fold it in half (inside-out) so there are four inches of extra material – that will be the closing flap of your bag. Sew up the sides.
Turn the bag right-side out.
Trim the closing flap’s edges so it has a bit more shape.
Create a hem on the flap by pinning the edges, then sew them down.
Measure two inches down from the inside lip of the bag, then attach the sticky (scratchy) side of the velcro there. Match the soft side up on the flap and sew it on.
Start using it! I’ve already made three – two for my diaper bag and one for my suitcase. It works great, and since I have so much leftover curtain material, everyone I know will be getting one…or two!
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!

Awesome idea. Also, that is my shower curtain.

So cute! I used this to create an envelope purse a few years ago, but the seams came apart quickly. On my second one, I learned to do double row (straight and zig zag) stitches and french seams to make it last. Love all the crafty posts!

Sweet! Can you make one for me?

You are seriously making me want a sewing machine. And if you knew just how utterly far out of my purview that actually is, you’d be exceedingly flattered.

What a clever idea and your doing soooo well with your sew skills! You are a natural!

Just in case you aren’t aware, vinyl/PVC is seriously poisonous stuff. It shouldn’t be on the market. Just try not to touch it much. Off my soapbox now.

I do love your DIY series though.
