For Annabel’s birthday party, I am giving all the girls the accessories they’ll need to become ponies. I found some great tutorials on Pinterest for pony ears and unicorn horns, but I didn’t find anything I really liked for Pegasus wings. I wanted something I could make quickly but wasn’t flimsy – it had to stand up to four and five-year-old girls. After some trial and error, I finally put together an easy pair of wings that can work for any fairy or Pegasus fan.
12″ x 18″ stiffened felt
9″ x 12″ colored craft felt
Wing template
Fabric scissors
Fabric pen
Glue or glue gun
5/8″ fold over elastic in coordinating color
Sequins or glitter (optional)
Trace the wing template onto the stiffened felt. I just traced one side, then flipped the template and traced the other side.
Cut out the template, then cut out the holes. I discovered a hole punch worked well for this, but scissors can cut a hole just as well.
Next, trace your template onto a piece of regular colored felt.
Make the part where your wings will touch a bit longer, so when the colored felt is placed on top of the stiffened felt, the wings will overlap where they meet.
Get your glue and carefully start securing the colored felt to the stiffened felt.
I found that smearing glue on the felt worked well, then I went around the edges with my hot glue gun for added security.
I wanted to add some sequins to dress up the wings. First I drew lines on the felt.
Then I carefully covered each line with hot glue.
I carefully placed the sequins on top of the hot glue.
Time to make the straps! Get the coordinating fold over elastic and cut two pieces that are between 10 and 12 inches long.
Thread the fold over elastic through each hole in the wings. Tie the ends securely so they won’t pull through.
The back of your wings should look like this.
Annabel is thrilled with them, and has requested wings in several different colors.
After I took this picture she started running around, screaming, “I’m finally a Pegasus!”
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!

In that last picture, I swear she looks like a teenager! So crazy/exciting thinking (after reading y’alls blog for almost 2(ish?) years) that she’s turning 5 next week!!

I’m tempted to try it, even lacking a crafting gene!

These are awesome!!!!
And can I just say, sometimes I get a little creeped out by how similar your Annabel and my niece Teagan are? She’s turning 6 in Feb and (FINALLY) announced her birthday theme: unicorns and peguses!
Thank God you are prepared for such events and have the wings covered. Is next week’s tutorial on unicorn headbands?
