I wanted to have something pretty and festive on my front door for my cousin’s shower this weekend, but couldn’t find anything pre-made that I loved. I thought I’d try to make something with a standard styrofoam wreath base, but then I came across this square wire wreath frame and I thought that would be more unique. I grabbed materials that matched the shower’s colors, including the pinterest-favorite burlap (burlap is the new chevron). It was pretty simple to make, just weaving, pulling, tucking, and tying the different strands in place.
Wire wreath frame
Two rolls of burlap (at least 15-20 feet long, and 4-inches wide)
Accent ribbon (about 12-feet long and 1.5-inches wide)
Pipe cleaners (pick a matching color)
Fabric scissors
Wooden letter
Glue gun (not pictured)
Start by cutting the pipe cleaners into fourths.
Stick a cut pipe cleaner through the end of your burlap (I had to cut a little hole for mine, then twist-tie it onto the wire frame so the burlap is secured.
Make a loop with the burlap, then attach it to the frame with a pipe cleaner.
Make loops around the entire frame.
As you can see, I’m not keeping the loops close together – this is because I’m going to weave in the other colors of burlap into the empty spaces.
All done with the first color!
For the lace burlap, I attached the end with a pipe cleaner, just like I did with the plain strand. This time, instead of securing every single loop, I just weaved the lace burlap through the gaps from underneath, using my fingers to fluff up the burlap loops to make everything look fuller.
Done with the lace burlap!
I then pulled loops of the green accent ribbon throughout the wreath, filling any remaining gaps.
This is what the wreath looked like from the back. Not pretty, but definitely functional!
If you want to add an accent letter, get your glue gun out and get to gluing.
Press the letter down firmly on the burlap until the glue cools. I picked an L because Leah’s new last name will be starting with an L!
I love how it turned out! After the shower I’ll be giving the wreath to Leah to take back to her house.
Now I have to make one to keep!
Any questions, let me know. Have fun!

That’s so pretty! And I’m sure it would look good in a circular wreath too- makes me think of all the holidays and events coming up…

Really nice of u!

Oh, this is PERFECT for a Fall wreath. I hung my Fall flower wreath the other day and it made me say, “meh”. This one will do just fine. Hmm, should I tell my boss I’m feeling ill, so I can go to Michael’s right now?

Is the burlap one continuous piece of fabric throughout the wreath?
Heather says:
Each color is just one long piece! But there are three different pieces of fabric – the plain, the lace, and the green. If you were going to make it all in one color, you’d probably need two or three rolls of the same color.

Are you kidding me? You are so talented and I am oh so jealous! All kidding aside thank you for all the DIY you make it look so easy and I truly enjoy reading you blog.

Sorry, catching up on your blog, but I wanted to ask: do you remember way back when you used to say that you didn’t have a crafty bone in your body?! I think you are way more creative than you gave yourself credit for! I’m glad you do these DIY things though, because although I can do crafty things, I have to have instructions for everything I do!
Heather says:
That’s true…I definitely felt like that. I think I was too afraid of trying and failing. I should put together a post of my DIY fails. I have a few! Thanks, Lora!

If I couldn’t find a square base, I’m assuming you could do the same thing with a round one? I’ve been eyeing up new wreath ideas for my door and LOVE the paper flower ones. Any suggestions on making it suitable for outdoors (besides felt)? I’d love to keep that “paper flower” look but don’t want it to get wrecked outside. Just thought maybe you’d have an idea since you are so great at these fun diy projects! Thanks!
