I received a lot of requests for a tutorial on how I did my hair for the Britney Spears concert. It looks complicated but I’d say its difficulty level is about a medium. You have to, at minimum, know how to do a french braid, but I think this looks even cooler if you know how to do a Dutch/Inside out braid. The good news is that I’ve got an old video tutorial for a Dutch braid (with a bonus cameo from Jackie!), so if you need to learn (or need a refresher) you can watch that one first. For this braided fauxhawk tutorial, I used Annabel as my hair model but I can obviously do this style on myself, and if you’re handy with your own hair you can, too!
For the braided fauxhawk, you need:
Brush/comb
Hair clips (for sectioning the hair)
Hairspray
Bobby pins
Clear elastic hair ties
If you can’t see the video above, click here.
A note: this is what I mean by divide the hair into three sections – I didn’t get a good angle on the video. You want a small section on the very top of the head, with the rest of the hair being divided evenly.

If you have any questions, let me know! Have fun!
Anna says:
So cute!
Jen says:
What a cute and patient hair model!
cynthia says:
That pose is awesome and that dress is adorable!
stacy says:
Love that last picture! She has way more coolness than me. The hairstyle is awesome!
Chris says:
Wow, you are so talented and Annabel is so patient. If my daughter grows her hair longer and wants to learn how to braid/style it she’ll have to watch your videos because I will never be able to do that.
Sara says:
How do you get the rockstar attitude? Does that come with the hair? Annie looks awesome!
Glenda says:
Her sassiness and that dress! OMG!!! LOVE!!!
Melanie says:
That last picture is so cute and full of attitude!
Kat says:
Tiny supermodel, she rocks that style amazingly!
Jordan says:
so much sass. She’s gotta be a fun kiddo to be around!!
Love the hair! (ANNND ANNIE’S DRESS!).
Jordan says:
PS: Is Annie tender headed? If my Mom even touched my hair when I was her age, I’d run away crying. I hated people touching/brushing/ messing with my hair! (which became a huge problem once I began dancing. Ugh!).
Now at 22, I’m not as bad as I was then, but am still extremely tender headed– hence why my hair is in an easy, no-frills pixie!
Heather says:
It’s funny, she hates getting her hair brushed, but will sit through any hair styling. Kids are weird!
Jordan says:
Dang that IS weird! Normally (for me at least) the styling hurts more than the hair brushing! Oh well. At least she lets you do that, I ran away from my Mom if I saw sight of the hairbrush when I was a kid
Kerri says:
Do you have any idea how much money you are going to save when she starts going to formals and you don’t have to shell out $150 for a hair-do for one evening multiple times a year? Good grief, I am jealous. I can brush my girls’ hair, I can manage pony/pigtails…that is it.
Heather says:
Yeah except she’ll probably be like, “Mooooom, I don’t want YOU to do my hair, everyone else gets to go to the salon!”
K.B says:
You can always offer up your services for those occassions. :o)
Giselle says:
Good call! Charge OTHER people! You’ll be the coolest Mom and get enough money to pay for Annie’s dress and accessories and make up and nails and limo share… Man. Girls are expensive!
Jenny says:
I love the last picture! Annie has the sorority girl elbow pose down perfectly! She is beautiful.
Missy K says:
LOVE that hairstyle! Can’t wait to get home so I can watch the video (gov blocks YouTube. Booo). Annie is so adorable! She definitely has the “Rock Star” attitude down. LOL! Where did you get her dress?! I have two granddaughters that would adore it!!
Heather says:
She got it for her birthday from her grandparents! I did some searching and I found it on Amazon! http://amzn.to/1lmtki7
Kate says:
She is SO good at letting you do her hair. Like. I am not that patient, and I am 30!
Brandy says:
Love this look!! I’m thinking I will be trying it, as well as my daughter. Thanks for the tutorial!
Annalisa says:
Ha! Wish my daughter was that patient. As it is, I can’t even comb through her hair without her trying to run away from me. It doesn’t help that her hair is (like mine) wavy and prone to tangles (and yes, we’ve tried everything, at this point it’s not that combing out tangles will hurt, it’s that she’s developed a mistrust of combs).
My mom is visiting, and was saying how she could trim the kid’s bangs for her if she wanted, and I’m like “yeah, it’s easier to teach a pig to fly than to get her to stand still if she knows you’re gonna touch her hair”.
As it is, we have to take her to a kid salon and bribe her with the possibility of wearing a princess costume while her hair gets “prettied” just to get a trim, and pay handsomely for it.
Katherine says:
Great tutorial, thank you!
I am amazed withall of Annie’s expressions! And she is so beautiful! You might have a little actress in your hands!
And may I ask where that dress is from? I have been looking for a star-adorned dress like that for months, for my 5 year old.
Heather says:
Her grandparents gave it to her for her birthday, but I googled it and found it here: http://amzn.to/1lmtki7 Amazon, yay!
Katherine says:
Thank you so much, Heather. Just bought the last one at her size — my daughter will be delighted!
Giselle says:
Oh and that last pic? Ah-mazing!
Jackie says:
The first and third photos are STUNNING!
