I’ve written a lot in the past about Madeline’s relationship with her cousins. We always thought Maddie and her cousin Danny would be playmates since they were born only nine months apart, but it didn’t work out that way. Her cousin Spencer, three years her senior, adored her. When they were around each other, Maddie only wanted to be with him, and he always wanted to play with her. I wish I could have seen them grow together and watched their relationship develop.
Mike’s sister Monica and her husband Sheridan announced at the beginning of the year that they were expecting their third baby. We told Maddie all the time that she was going to have another cousin. She LOVED babies and whenever I’d say, “Maddie, are you excited for your baby cousin?” she’d clap her hands and say, “BABY!” Maddie passed away before we found out that her future cousin was a girl. I know she would have been excited to have another girl around.
Knowing that Monica was pregnant with a girl, I did hope that Binky would also be a girl. But, at the same time, Maddie and Spencer were thick as thieves, so I knew gender wouldn’t matter to our kids.
Yesterday at 4:08 am, Michaela Madeline was born.
I know she and Binky will be best friends.

Oh my gosh, that is so bittersweet. She is beautiful, as is her brother. And of course Miss Madeline’s amazing personality and larger than life attitude totally shine through in that picture of her and her cousin. Priceless! I love the name of that baby. I might be biased, but my daughter is Micaela too, except without the H. I hope she and Binky will be close friends and your Maddie will be their guardian angel, watching over them both. After I stopped breastfeeding B, I got pregnant right away. We found out just 2 weeks after Scoot’s brother told us he and his wife were pregnant. Our kids would end up being like “cousin twins” and best friends! But, I ended up miscarrying. When we went to visit their son after he was born, B freaked out. He wouldn’t let me anywhere near my nephew. I thought to myself, “Wow, what would have happened if my pregnancy hadn’t ended and B had a younger sibling this same age?” Now that my nephew is walking (he’s just over a year old), B and him LOVE hanging out with one another. While my nephew didn’t end up with a “cousin twin,” he still ended up with a cousin who adores him. So glad that Maddie and Binky will both know the fun and joy and love that comes with having cousins who adore them.

Congratulations on the arrival of your niece. This is a wonderful post. These pictures of Maddie and her cousin are two of my favourite pictures of her (out of so many good ones!). How she looks at him and then the expression of pure happiness in the second one highlight her incredible personality.

I love the pictures of Maddie and her cousin. The second picture shows her spirit, her joy, her love of life and her character. She had so many layers, for such a young child. She had so much that she gave in her short little life, I can tell this by her smile in both pictures. She was dynamic, exciting to be around, always full of life! I wish I could have met her, but I am so happy to have the opportunity to meet her through you and Mike. I don’t know you, but I have a young child, and can appreciate and imagine the love you had for her. I don’t know why such an awful thing happened to you, but I know if has made me a better mom to my daughter. I can’t wait to “meet” your new daughter through this blog and read about the amazing parents you will continue to be. Cheers to you and Mike! Best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy with Binkie!

Ya know– that sweet little Michaela Madeline (what a beautiful name) is fresh directly from heaven- I’ll bet that she was just playing with Maddie and Binky right before she came here and that they were all the best of friends! Just a thought… Hope you are doing well
This post brought me to tears….congrats to all….that first pic of Maddie and her cousin…that is so cute….reminds me of the farming kids pics and wondering what they are talking about….she is so precious…your Maddie and Maddie’s cousin. I have been thinking about you this week…a lot…..just wanted you to know that.
