Ladies and gentlemen, we have a one-year-old.
month one, month two, month three, month four, month five, month six, month seven, month eight, month nine, month ten, month eleven
weight: 22 pounds, 11 ounces
length: 30.5 inches
head: 20.25 inches
hair: needs another trim
My six pound, fifteen ounce baby (who seemed SO GIANT when he was born) has more than tripled his birth weight and grown ten inches. Interestingly, his head circumference now matches his birth length. His giant head could be considered a deadly weapon in some states, but we’re making sure he’ll only use that noggin for good.
This little boy is such a freaking delight. It’s literally impossible to not smile when you’re around him. Even when he’s relentlessly trying to injure himself (he’ll climb and dive bomb and stagger and wiggle through and generally disregard his personal safety entirely). I can’t ever take my eyes off of him unless he’s sleeping or strapped into something. Good thing he’s so cute.
I’ve always had a completely non-scientific theory that babies are either verbal or physical. My daughters were both verbal and had several words by their first birthdays. James has a few words but he’s definitely a lot more physical. He’s incredibly coordinated and I’m 90% sure he’s going to be left-handed like his dad and Annabel. I guess I really will need to invest in some left-handed products for this house.
James loves laughing and being around people more than anything else. He loves books and Mickey Mouse and throwing his toys. He also loves Rigby, and even though he’s not even slightly gentle she can’t resist him, either. Watching him grow has been such a treat. I can’t believe how much he’s changed.
What a wonderful year it’s been!
Happy Birthday to your sweet boy! It’s been a fun year watching him grown and change via your blog updates and IG photos. He sure is a happy little guy! Happy Birthday, James!

Yay for left-handed children! Happy Birthday, James! And, again, I going to thank you for sharing your children. My mornings are always brighter after seeing your kids. (I am NOT a morning person, and they help my mood so much.) Thank you!
Happy Birthday James! And side note…my girls are both physical and verbal. not a great combo ALL the time. I didn’t realize how verbal they were until our 8yo next door neighbor (whom they idolize), told her mom…”Why don’t they ever stop talking?” And physical…forget about it. headfirst dives off the couch right into somersaults. they are exhausting
no fair!! Im a leftie, and I was really hoping for a leftie. I got two right handers… I think you got one of my lefties!! Your kids are beautiful, and its been wonderful watching them grow up.
I dont know if I have ever told you this, but I love his middle name. Where did you guys get it from? Happy Birthday James!
fantastic musical taste Jamesie!
Happy birthday cutie! It’s my fiancés birthday today. He’s also left-handed. I say stock up now!

Happy happy birthday to sweet baby James & his parents! ????????????????????
Oh no – the birthday balloon emoticons turned into
question marks – sorry about that!!
so he may be a bobblehead, but he’s a stinking cute bobblehead!!!
Happy Birthday sweet boy! You will never know to what extent you have brightened your families life! Cant wait to continue watching you grow. Blessings!!
I smile just seeing his picture, so I can very well imagine all the smiles you have being around him all day in person.
Happy birthday, James! I can’t believe he’s already a year old!
Your non-scientific theory is correct. Our first child had learned about 10 words, then lost them all when she started to walk. Multiple doctors said this is common because walking is a gross-motor skill while talking is considered a fine-motor skill. It can happen that their brains need to focus on one, then the other when more confident.
